How does your game represent "Slick"?
It involves going really fast by making the ground slick. Plus, the time travel momentum mechanics will definitely be seen as slick.

Easiest 20 stars I've ever given. Portal 3 is here, and it doesn't even need portals.

I wasn't able to finish this in time, but you bet your ass I'm going to be back to wrap this one up. Truly phenomenal job. Visuals, audio, gameplay, and new ideas are all off the charts here.

Developer

Thanks, that's some really high praise. :D

Incredible game. The art & music are superb. I takes some time to get used to the gameplay but it is an amazing experience. Great job!

Developer

Thanks a ton. The team did an amazing job.

Cool mashup of the mechanics! I can see how you guys were inspired by that one section in Portal 2

Funny run animation, lil guy is in a hurry

Developer

I loved the animations, little dude just wants to go! :D

WOW, y’all did such a great job with the gameplay and visuals. You managed to have so much time to polish. It’s really, really well done. Awesome work!

Very unique, and slick, platformer! Basically have all the same thoughts as my co-dev, but I wanna add how much I love the look of this game!

Developer

Your thoughts are lovely and appreciated! :D

Submitted(+2)

Very slick platformer, I especially enjoyed building up and using momentum.

Developer

Thanks so much. I found it fun as well. lol

Submitted(+3)

This game has some of the best sprite work I've seen in the jam! I like the fast paced movement and work really well with the puzzles. Cool game!

Developer

Thank you so much, very kind words!

Submitted(+3)

Really neat! Love the maintaining/dumping of momentum as a mechanic. Awesome and underrated entry.

Developer

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

Submitted(+3)

omg how did i forget to rate and comment this so long

this is another hell yea project from the facet devs. love the personality you guys bring to the jam, it's very grungey and interesting. :3  a great return to the bigmode jam, here's hoping they make up for the technical difficulties from 23!

Developer(+2)

Thank you bonejack!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot, hopefully less technical difficulties this time. lol

Wow this is insanely good and really well polished! Could totally see it being made into a full game, and as others said gives me portal vibes. Only thing I’d say was I wish the ‘gloops’ from the gun lasted a bit longer (but thats because I suck at platform movement games XD). Love the aesthetic of it all and the extra detail of the speed meter shaking when u hit those phat numbers. I appreciate all those save points too!

Really great entry, hope you continue working on it!

Ooh, i really like this. Slick movement, tons of depth. Very reminiscent of portal, which is a very good thing. One big problem was with the camera being stuck about 50% of the screen ahead of my player. I couldn't really see where i was going. A nitpick is that it would benefit greatly from coyote time. Great entry!

Developer (1 edit)

Glad you liked it. Coyote time is on the to-do list. lol. For the other problem, not sure what that is, the camera should only be slightly in front of the player the faster you are going, are you saying it's like that normally even when standing still? Out of curiosity, (for bug-testing purposes), what resolution is your display?

Submitted(+1)

I'm 99% sure it has to do with fullscreen being fullscreen instead of windowed fullscreen. Right after your game, i played another gamemaker game, and it had the same problem, but restarting it seemed to fix it. I think that might be on me :P (it basically looked like it rendered at 200% scale and only the top left corner was visible. STILL FUN THO!

Developer

Fascinating, It's actually running in borderless window and auto-sizes the window based on your resolution. Unless your display is under 720p, it should still fit regardless. GameMaker is certainly a bit strange about it's windows I've noticed. Thanks for the feedback.

Submitted(+1)

that is rather weird :P
it might have something to do with how it launched after the "windows protected your PC" thing, maybe?

Submitted(+3)

Wow. Beyond the gameplay feeling incredibly tight and original, the worldbuilding is extremely tasteful. Loved the ending.

Developer(+2)

World building is crazy fun, there's so many directions you can take and so many ways to execute it. We're glad you enjoyed!

Developer

Very kind words, thanks a ton for playing. :D

Submitted(+3)

holy shit this game was amazing! I feel like you guys could turn this into a full release. Really brilliant mechanics that you explored really well. This one deserves way more attention. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Wowzer thank you so much! We all really appreciate responses like this :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you jSpeak!

This is some Sonic-type shit, you really feel the sense of speed. I like how the speed counter starts to shake the higher the number gets, it makes the running feel so much more intense :o

I think the character blends a little too much with the background. It’s not super bad since he’s always in the center, but it’s still harder to track him, especially when the camera zooms out.

Submitted(+3)

Very interesting. I got stuck at the teleport through walls part. Very good concept :)

This game reminds me of the old game 'Abuse' both the extremely clean and functional graphics, but even more the wonderful gameplay. The run & gun feels easy to pick up, 'wasting' or trial-and-error is forgiving and the amount of deaths/respawn is just enough to give to make you feel like you accomplished something even though it is just a simple jump that you mis-timed. Thrice..

Like I said, the graphics are really well done and together with the music give a instant sense of really dystopian environment. This shows that world-building can be easy, without literally saying anything, by having people who understand their arts.

For a game jam game alone that would've been quite the achievement. But no, these guys then go and extend it with the mechanics/concepts that made games like Portal and Pedro go from good to great. Some polish can be added to make the visuals work more into your advantage (this stays, this moves, this was, this will be) with those mechanics. Amazing deliverable for such a short time and shows what a team with dedication can accomplish in a pressure cooker environment.

Whacking you character around and shifting the momentum somewhere else is spot on. Maybe you could add some more Canabalt-style sections to raise the "Weeeeeee" and "F**k Yeah!!.. Look at me" feeling while at the same time (travel) keep the flow high.

Take this game (or it's concept) and built this into something bigger. Shouldn't be to hard for you, if you just commit.

Developer(+1)

This was a such a lovely comment to read, thanks for all the great words! :D And Perhaps we will.

Submitted(+2)

Very cool and fun, absolutely deserves way more attention. Yes, at its core it’s pretty similar to Portal, but I almost see the relationship between this and Portal like the relationship between Taiji and The Witness (look them up, it’ll make sense I promise).

Submitted(+3)

this is sick and slick! i love the attention to the narrative.

Submitted(+3)

Great job! The momentum preserving mechanic is really cool. A little bit of coyote time would go a long way!

Developer

Thanks a ton, definitely agree, I've implemented it other games, unfortunately just didn't make the cut this time around.
