This game has an awesome idea, but I feel it was extremely buggy sometimes. Plus, I just stacked up on candy by going to the same house over and over and over again, cause usually, it would continuously give me treat. Other than that though, I enjoyed the game. W entry

I tried a few times, but it currently seemed bugged. After two or something successful candy collection minigames the further ones just hang after a few seconds and gave me a random amount of candy. I always failed the chocolate minigame, because sooner or later a tv hunted me down before I found the portal. Don't know if the map is a bit big for that (if there is just one portal?). The artstyle was cute and I liked the idea around gathering monsters so they gather for you, but I didn't get far because of the minigame problems :(

Nice work. This is the best main screen I have seen in this jam so far. I like the game concept and how it combines multiple aspects such as resource management and monster taming. Gotta get them all, or should I say gotta catch them all, LOL. I liked both mini games. Although the genre is completely different, the game gave me a vibe similar to Costume Quest. You should definitely look it up.

Really cool story and nice idea for a game! Both the mini games were fun and the overall management style was also quite fun, although after i recruited the pumpkin i sort of 'lost' him somewhere and couldnt find him! So i dont know what happened after that hahah. Otherwise, the artstyle is nice, i especially liked the bakgrounds you used in the title screen and the candy collection game. Well done :)

Very ambitious concept, well executed style. It's a bit slow going for my tastes, especially for a jam game - but kudos for pulling this off!

fun idea, the visuals were cute and running away from the TV's was intense, however the candy collecting game seemed to be bugges as it ended after like 3 seconds and the candy wasn't falling but good job on the game :)

This was a very ambitious game and very interesting premise. Pokemon meets Stardew Valley meets Trick or Treating. The Treat minigame was fun, the Trick one, was definitely a trick. The music was creepy and catchy - good tone. You definitely put a lot of work into this.

When I played the Treat minigame, even when I caught chocolate, I never got it at the end. I also seemed to get less candy than I caught. After I upgraded the large mansion in the upper-left-hand corner of the game and tried to Trick-or-Treat there, the game hung on the Treat loading screen and I had to reload the page. I also didn't seem to get any candy from my monsters, even the Pumpkin King.

You have the bones of a really promising game here.

great game idea and decent implementation.
When i was reading description i got really excited to play, i couldn't believe you did such a big game for this jam. well, as other mentioned there are bugs, i mostly had the same bugs as other players, sped up treat game and freeze. stat eating more candy then it supposed too, monsters getting stuck and not moving, i tried dumping candy in obedience but it feels like it chagnes nothing, (and you also left a note that it changes nothing) and only pumpking is assignable.
well i still had my fun, no bug can stand between me and having fun with a game, on my 3rd run, i was able to get pumpking charisma to max, and the guy became nonstop profit, i also learn trick to unstuck him, just assign him different task and then assign him back to trick or treating. but no luck with other monsters.
averall this still was great and fun game. And the scope of this game is pretty big, what you achieved already is amazing as it is. Great job, i really want to play a full polished game, would be great.

Now that is a beautiful game. The UI is fantastic. The game feels a little slow at the start but it starts to pace up later which is perfect. Very cute art style

A really interesting game, and something a bit different to lots of other entries in the jam. A cool art style, and lots of the UI art looked great. The camera controls  were smooth, and well considered that the movement speed scales based on the zoom level to avoid whizzing all over the place when zoomed all the way out, nice attention to detail there.

I found the TREAT minigame worked correctly the first time, but then would either play really fast, or auto collect candy / candy would spawn at the top of the screen and then instantly disappear on subsequently play throughs. The TRICK minigame was a nice change of pace, but I could never find any chocolate, and instead found myself triggering and trying to out run the TVs before finding the portal, but would always escape empty-handed.

Music and what SFX there are, were well suited to the games overall vibe, but could use some more SFX / visual feedback in the minigames. Finally the concept behind recruiting and upgrading monsters to do your trick or treating is really cool, but I found that it was a bit hit of miss how effective PumpKing was at helping.

A nice entry with some really cool ideas though, and would be interesting how it develops in the future! Good work!

Hi.

Interesting entry. Game page is well arranged, game itself also looks good. Complementary music and sound effect. Overall it’s fun to spend some time in it!

Bugs & Issues

  • After increasing Charisma, got a message saying ‘I have not enough candies.’ Seems to trigger twice on one click.

  • Mini-game sometimes completes automatically, giving candies without doing anything. On later tries it happens even faster - candies just get collected automatically.

Gameplay & UX

  • After assigning the pumpkin, clicking on it does nothing - would be nice if it was possible to interact (e.g. change stats, job, etc.).

  • Hard to find the hired pumpkin - some way to easily locate it would help.

  • Mini-game tutorial shows up every time. It should skip automatically after being shown 1–3 times. Otherwise it’s just a distractor.

  • No sound or visual feedback in the mini-game - even small effects when collecting or missing candy would make it feel much better.

  • No clear feedback on what can or can’t be clicked. Maybe change the cursor or add highlights for interactable objects - right now static and clickable things look the same.

Game Design

  • There’s no clear short-term or long-term goal, so it’s a bit hard to stay motivated. Some kind of progress bar would help keep players engaged.

I noticed a few bugs, but of the ones that weren't already reported are that some of the light polls don't let you walk behind them, pretty sure it isn't intentional because the ones next to it allowed it.  Also I'd recommend a little extra audio feedback for when picking up candy and clicking on the pumpkins. I'd also suggest that when you click on the house you shorten the time for waiting to do the mini game, maybe cut it in half,


I like the atmosphere of the game though, but I'll admit, it took me a while to figure out what I was doing and I feel like I still don't know what I'm doing, ended up just clicking on the houses to do the mini games because everything else didn't feel all that clear to me.

I was excited to play a town management game, but there are simply too many bugs… Think this game is the buggiest game out of the 30+ games I have tried so far. Probably tried refreshing the game page 3 or 4 times.

I will NOT be rating your game because I believe the bugs are not letting me experience the game properly. I will only provide some feedback.

  • On my first try, the only monster I have which I can assign a role, the Pumpking, does nothing but get stuck in the river, splashing water.
  • Not sure why house multiplier is always -1.0
  • After ringing the door bell on a house, you can get stuck on the Trick or Treat screen.

For the collect chocolate mini game:

  • The player can disappear off screen.
  • The tvs does not stop chasing you.(Probably not a bug but consider changing that)
  • You can end up with negative chocolate
  • You can get stuck next to a fence and can’t move

For the collect candy mini game

  • Most of the time you only see flashes of candy. Then game is over in like 3s.
  • One time this happened and I am not even sure what’s going on:

Some of the things you mentioned are intentional though - Pumpking is the helpful feature that turns against you (automated trick-or-treating is helpful, but using him specifically punishes you because he has poor stats). Additionally, monsters will low obedience will disobey you. Instead of following the role, they will idle. Pumpking , because of his terrible stats, is very lazy. 

You can receive negative points from failing trick mini-games. The idea is that treat mini-games are more forgiving whereas the trick mini-games will punish you severely. It's the same with the monsters if they go trick-or-treating. But I think this is probably not conveyed well enough. 

Again, thank you for the thorough feedback and I hope you will return to try the next build! If not, please consider downloading the executable. It seems to be more stable.

Many features that could still be added, but you did a good job for such a short time.

It took me a while to realize what was going on- to see what the game was about before reading the page itself.
Eventually though, I started getting the idea, though some feedback for interacting would be nice- maybe a highlight now and again.

But the idea of a kind of trick-or-treating management game sounds pretty cool. Definitely worth experimenting more on as it's not something I've really seen.

We floated lots of interesting ideas that had to be cut due to time constraints, but I'd like to see how they play out outside the jam. I'd like to add interaction feedback, as you've described — I was just bugfixing the core mechanics at the end — but I'm not sure if that's considered adding new features or not. I'll note down your feedback regardless :)
