It was a fun game! I loved how things were still understandable in low resolution.

Now that's cool :D Really great- feels consistent overall! :)

I played the JAM version:

I feel like playing a 3D game with a forced 64x64 render. The result is between originality and illegibility. This adds an unique style to the game, but I find hard to see some elements in the game (for example, platforms).

The game is fun by the way! Nice level design. But I think that you can add more feedback when the player shoots enemies (there is no sound or effect in this version).

Nice one. Reminds me of the "doom - but on the amiga" days

this is really pretty great, though i do wish i could move/aim a little more nimbly to deal with the enemies in closer range. the platform jumping bits are also very difficult to judge due to the low resolution. i like that the game is true to the 64x64 strict grid, but you can rotate in the engine at a finer scale (visible in the changes to the lighting and coloring of different pixels in the grid) - this is pretty neat. otherwise, i'm not sure how i feel about games made in 3D then forced to such a low resolution. it is very cool to see for the purpose of the jam, and i love imagining an alternate reality where we had handhelds with enough processing power to run this for some reason paired with such a poor display. but it may not really add anything in terms of quality of gameplay or aesthetic now - the art assets get messy very quickly when scaled to any distance (maybe this could be used to good effect, but here it seems arbitrary). that said, very nice work and thanks for sharing!

Awesome work! So much nostalgia, thank you for making this!

I can just run past everyone. 0/15 kills. Those jump pads are BS. Fire whoever did those

I hate the part with the red button, boxes and pool of acid :)

This could be a complete game at this point. The level design is really cool and the gameplay is awesome too, the camera moved a bit too slow for my taste but I guess that's a problem with my mouse's sensibility. Incredible game!

Low res Quake? yeah thanks!

Developer

Hello,
Thanks for amazing feedback!
We have released post-jam patched version which mainly fixes problems in main menu, for ex. one where you could still move in menu, when level was loading in the background, sometimes causing confusion.
Additionally you can play on Mac now. We have Linux build too, but it's experimental. It doesn't work on some machines, (if you have problems, try adding -force-opengl on running in terminal).

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions and let me know how are the new builds!
Cheers!

This game rocks. The graphics look perfect and subtle and the classic Doom gameplay is all here. Please turn this into a full-fledged game.

Impressive amount of work gone into this... though I did think the enemies were trying to hug me to begin with!

Had a bit of issue with the controls - but that's only because I was mad enough to attempt it with a laptop trackpad rather than a mouse which quickly sorted things out.. would've liked to have played solely with the keyboard for that classic Doom feeling the rest of it gives though!

Version for linux please... :D

Very very polished feeling. Level design was great (especially the 2nd and 3rd level!)

Really great stuff, it's pretty polished. It has a little Quake feel which is a good thing. Except it's more colorful rather than red and brown. I like it!

What I didn't like is that weapon feels weak. hitting things should give some feedback. Knockback, better hit sound, shaking, little bleeding, hit animation or something like that. It's like punching something soft as it is.
But yeah, it is my only issue, the controls are great, the powerups have some retro feel to it. Really awesome!

A really cool game it is! The gif really doesn't do it a lot of justice. For something made in such a short span of time this is rather impressive - it has a consistent aesthetic (well, arguably, the enemies I would not call fitting perfectly (not sure about the color choices, but it's just me) ), working gameplay and it adheres to the jam's rules.

What felt the nicest to me is the movement, it reminded me of older shooter games - think likes of Quake 2.

The starting gun felt kind of weak, mostly due to the fact that there's no hit indication on the enemies except for the blue laser particles (the gore is awesome, and, in my opinion, is very much fitting, unlike, perhaps, the enemies themselves) and the sound is just weak - again, a perception thing, but I can't offer any fixes because I often suffer from the very same kinda problem.

Oh, and also the music sounds good to me.

This is pretty sick man, It'd play a little better if the enemies were lighter on the dark background just so they could be seen from further away but you can tell there was a bunch of work put into this.

Pretty awesome not something I could pull off in two weeks.
