Really cool! I like how you need to think carefully about how you rig the dice as affects both you and your enemy. I also like how there's quite a few ways for the player to affect the outcome (choosing which dice to rig and how, choosing a weapon and shield) so it's not all down to RNG.

The main issue I noticed was one that other people have already mentioned - battles becoming stalemates after a while. As I'm writing this I'm currently stuck in a never-ending battle with Tiberius haha. 🤣

Overall, great game!

I loved this take on "rigging dice", and while I took a more straightforward approach I thought this was a brilliant way of nudging the odds in your favor without making it too easy. Loved the crowd in the background as well :D

It's funny. I really liked the crowd animation that much that that was the thing I was spending my attention on.

The game play is very unique. The only thing is that the fight itself feels like a loading time :(

This was pretty fun! I liked the strategy and the rigging of the dice. The art was solid and the idea is really clever and unique.

Running into a stalemate is annoying, but bound to happen given the two-attribute nature of the game. Perhaps if the rigging only lasts one round, or if there was a third attribute that came into play it might get around that?

Whatever the case, great game you came up with here.

I really liked this one. I ran into a bug where somehow the game brought me back to the menu but the fight seemed like it was going on in the background. Either way I had an ultimate purple dice setup where I was really powerful. I even one shoted a guy with a roll of the 20. I wanted to keep taking guys out and get more powerful. It's probably good the game bugged on me b/c I would of kept playing way longer and lose track of time haha. I also liked how the different ways you can rig the dice actually changes so it keeps it unique. Overall really fun game

Of the 50+ I've rated so far, this is by far my favorite. I loved the idea of changing the values on the dice for the combat and buying weapons and such. It was really well done. Your UI and overall graphics were super clean and fun. Also, your music and sfx were totally on point.

The only issue I ran into was that on my second play through I got both the D8 weapon and shield fairly quickly and just zero-ed out every other dice - easy wins from then on... until I reached the champion with my D8 where every side is a 20, leaving he and I in an everlasting gladiator battle of perfect 20s forever. It just felt a bit too easy on the second playthrough and then the boss guy and I having a stalemate what a moot ending.

Otherwise, again, this is my favorite game I've played thus far. Really good job with this. I actually found myself wanting to make my own gladiator game after seeing yours! Nice job!

Thanks for the kind words and glad you enjoyed it, I agree there needed to be some tweaking to prevent longer fights. Researching gladiators while making this was fun, definitely an interesting setting.

Nice relaxing game idea! I had fun watch the crowd go wild over insane battles! Really well done!

This is a brilliant game. I really, really like and you should be very proud of making it. The design is really smart, and it's very fun to play! If I could make 1 suggestion, it would just be to have a way to speed up time, because the rigging phase is more interesting in my opinion than watching the battle play out.

I would totally play an extended version of this. Great job and thanks for the game :)

Awesome! Great job, it's really fun to play. After a while I was trapped in a fight, where no one could deal damage anymore :D

Super fun to play, one of the most entertaining games on the jam so far! Loved the mechanic and how you mixed risk and chance with strategy. Keeping track of your economy, getting good gear, it was great! I played it the whole way through, super good job!

Actually really fun to play, and a challenge to get an advantage every time! Sadly i encountered some sort of bug where the screen would fade in and out in the menu, and rerolling the item shop and the next fighter, all while sounds of a fight could be heard in the background. This would happen about 5 times, and after that it would be normal, but upon starting the battle the screen would just be black and nothing would happen. What i could play was super good though!

Developer

Yeah sorry it's a bug with a stalemate function I added near the deadline, glad you enjoyed what you got to play!

Super fun to just play around, the way the mechanics work prevent for abusing the dice (I was happy, just casually rolling my red 10-10 sword obliterating everything until I got in a fight against an enemy with red and blue shield making my setup completely useless - great stuff).

Fights are getting a bit too long after a while but the whole thing is super enjoyable. Great job at making a game with simple rules and deep mechanic underneath ;)

Love the combination of manipulating the dice as well as the numbers on them. Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing, was great to see you playtest on stream!

This is a great take on the theme! It seems well flushed out in the time as well.
I like the decisions given to the player and the design around scouting the opponent is helpful!
The art and music fit nicely together, and the crowd animations are awesome!

The game is pretty creative and fun but I would’ve loved a fast-forward button or at least have it not pause when it’s in the background.

Really nice concept, the art and sounds fit really well I thought. The game itself was an interesting take on  the whole concept of rng in the sense where you had a lot of player control in the form of strategising.

I had an issue with one level with Tiberius (not sure if the names/levels are randomised) and it went on for a few minute without much happening on either side, the screen faded to black and back to the menu like usual, but I could still here the gameplay sounds from the last battle. Every 10-15 seconds or so it'd fade to black and back to the menu and I would get more gold every time so that was an issue, but for a proof of concept it was a really good game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah sorry there's an issue with long battles I added a stalemate function but didn't implement it properly in time so it breaks the game unfortunately, it is an issue I wish I could fix!

Great game, love the audio and art.

It's a cool concept, and I like the visuals! Sometime the combats are long, maybe a pass button would fix that.

Nicely done!
