I like this a lot! It’s a shame we don’t get to see what happens in the end. The idea is very promising, and the art is great!
I do want to give some feedback though:
-
The scrolling of items in the dialogue selection is very slow. I want to see what option I’ve got selected without having to wait multiple seconds.
-
There’s a bug where, if someone spawns by you when you progress time, dialogue with them will cut off dialogue with Holmes. (There are some other bugs as well which you seem to be aware of already, but this one is pretty random to run into, so I thought I’d mention it in case you hadn’t discovered it yet)
-
Holmes obviously doesn’t like it if you tell him who died without being told the name of the victim first, but he doesn’t bat an eye if you tell him that someone was killed without being told that the crime was a murder, which feels a bit counterintuitive.
-
If you don’t talk to Padison and then kill Hisston, she still calls you Mr. Secret and believes that you killed Hisston, which is odd since she didn’t suggest it to you in the first place if you avoided her. So it would be nice if it was clearer that avoiding someone doesn’t affect the story.
I’d love to play a more fleshed out version of this! It’s a shame it wasn’t properly finished in time for the jam, but you should definitely continue working on it!
The art is amazing and eye-catching.
The controls are a bit confusing at the start, and the moving speed feels too slow.
I couldn't understand who, why, and where should I kill in the game.
I laughed out loud when the slot machine ended on "I Don't Know", that was amazing! I love representations of a scrambled mind like this. If I had animated my older game "Something to Say" I wish it would look like this - I was trying to make a game about dating where dialog options fall out of lootboxes.
I just remembered - the screen was too big for my laptop, I had to zoom out the entire page to see everything. Fullscreen cropped the picture.
Art is amazing, writing can feel a bit stilted (possibly because of time issues i'm imagining), overall really cute if a bit scuffed around the edges (the question slot machine feels a bit slow). Good job!
to not repeat everyone here,
the art is gorgeous! Great work on that!
the Idea is quite stellar in my opinion, so kudos on the creativity! albeit the execution leaves much to be desired but again this jam has a very serious time constraint so it's only expected to not polish perfect game, but considering the time frame this was a great entry and suite the fun experience!
overall, a solid entry, a memorable one too thanks to the cute art! great work!
My favorite art of the jam, Love the idea too, but there are some bugs that prevent it from being fully realized, I think you should continue working on it, it's good a solid foundation.
-Enjoyment: It is a purrrfect fun time!
-Creativity: First detective game I have seen!
-Presentation: The art style is Pawtastic!
-Neat game indeed!! Please check out my non-creative entry when you can :D
The art and the idea are great!
With more time for polish and bugfixing, I could totally see this game being sold on Steam! (And I would buy it)
While the project was ambitious and there were bugs, I believe this game is an incredible, smashing success. The artistic direction throughout the entire game is phenomenal. I love how you went about creating sentences with the three parts. I'm very curious to see how you'd convince an AI on choosing the wrong person. I'd be very happy to see this fleshed out!
Good art, good music choice, unfortunately it looks like your scope was too much for 48 hours. I would love to see this expanded on post-jam though, I've seen a lot of murder-solving games before but I'd love to try to cover up a murder in one instead.
Sprites and Music are great! Unfortunately there were tons of bugs and then all of a sudden everyone was gone and I couldn't do anything anymore. If they were fixed and the game expanded more, I think this would be a really great stand-alone game!
Every game is better with cats! Loved the puns and the atmosphere of the game. I also couldn’t complete the game due to bugs, but what I saw was very promising. Keep it up!
I really like the graphics, music and the idea. It's unfortiunate that you couldn't fix the gamebreaking stuff in time. Are you planning to fix the bugs after gmtk?
Like everybody else, I hit a bug that prevented me from playing the rest of it, which is a shame because what I did see was really good. Interacting with a character leads to dialogue that says a bug happened and there was only 1 hour left in the jam so it couldn't be fixed. I walked around the train a few more times but couldn't find any way to continue. If this is ever fixed or I just missed something, reply to this comment, I'd love to finish this game. Art is stellar and the concept is pretty good.
I hit a bug pretty early on it seems but this is one of those times I really wish I could see where it was going, the art was pretty nice!
