cool art! this was surprisingly quite fun, enjoyed it alot, it was nice to see the color mode too, and the choice of characters is refreshing, great work!

the DS is nearing 20 years old, thus it is a retro console, great game 10/10

albeit quite confusing at first, it was a fun playthrough, very cute art too! 10/10

thanks a million! due to time constraints, I made poor choices that led to less than desirable collisions, but hopefully I can polish this up to something worth playing, thank you so much for your support! will surely keep updating!

I know right 😭 I feel frustrated too, the Unity terrain collisions do not play well with such kinematic controllers, I think I'm gonna phase out the terrain in favor of flatter objects and more uniform collisions, the time constraints did not enable me to test the stage properly, thanks for your feedback and hopefully I can polish this ti become something interesting, wish me luck!

Time constraints forced me to use what I have at hand, I made a few temples and shrine props but didn't find time to add them, but  I will surely further expand with better relevance to the Touhou lore, the stage is supposed to mirror Gensokyo after all!
Thanks for the feedback! really appreciate it!

I digress, all art is good in its own medium, meanig to each their own, sometimes a simple cute style is more fit for a certain thematic, while sometimes one requires more detail, so as long as the art style is coherent, everything will look clean and fit, keep up the good work!

wow! truly a marvelous game! the gameplay is so much fun, and the take on theme is perfect, and not to mention that the art is so beautiful! truly one of the most polished entries for the jam, easily a winner!

the Touhou setting and theme really makes it interesting to play, especially with perhaps stuff like references and Easter eggs added! keep up the good work!

of course, I never expected someone to find a way to make a visual novel relevant like this, but you used the VN format as a medium to tell  a story about retro games! interpretations like this are the brilliant ways people can make unique games with overlapping genres and themes, that is quite clever thus I am impressed, Kudos!

of course! the visuals are simple and clean thus serve their purpose well, you can never go wrong with the retro pixel look, its the gameplay that makes the experience! kudos!

great entry! I'm surprised no one other than you made a classic zelda style game! a simple yet excellent implementation of the golden gameplay, with great relevancy to the theme, and fun gameplay, this was truly and enjoyable game, great work!

Bro you low key got me on tears, you awakened nostalgic memories deep within me, I forgot even cave story exists and yet you reminded me of many things, this felt less like a game and more like a journey, through your development process, and when you talked about how the tower was the first map you made, as a person who has been interested in game dev for a long time, your words truly reminded me of my starting days, I used to mod games and that's how I wanted to finally create my own ones, the music, sfx and your dialogue was nostalgic and melancholic to me, like I was reminiscent of the days when I used to dream of making something like this, and why I lost that spark, perhaps society made me sad, yet your game reminded me of my goals, and who I am truly, and why I used to enjoy games as a whole, anyway sorry for the rant, but your game truly made my day and perhaps made my year in more ways than one! thank you from the bottom of my heart! you are totally getting a 10/10 from me!

oh my thats so great! how wonderful of you! now I cant wait to play, just from the art the game looks so promising!

this is a wonderful game! the sprites look so cute! and the game plays well and is obviously the classic engaging gameloop of mario, a very simple yet excellent execution of a classic Idea that I am yet to see another one like it in the jam, well done on the theme relevancy!
overall a solid entry, great work!

truly marvelous! the gameplay was fun and engaging, the visuals are nice and coherent, the audio is so cool, easily one of the best entries, a balanced game with great theme relevancy, nice work!

albeit I was quite confused by the gameplay, this is still a great entry, the graphics are so nice and a perfect take on the theme, you truly nailed the PSX look! low poly sanae is so cute 10/10

albeit a short game I quite enjoyed it, liked the multiple endings too,  the dialogue flowed well, the art is gorgeous too and the smartest integration of the theme I have seen! quite a creative take with a visual novel, overall a very slod entry, great work!

quite the cool experience! I really enjoyed my time, the dialogue flowed well and I especially like the interactivity, art is beautiful, smart use of the theme too, overall this is my favorite entry, great work!

this looks like a wonderful game, but it doesn't boot for some reason, the_0003 throws the error "couldn't initialize direct2D direct 3D or DirectWire"
may I kindly ask what engine you used? squirrel?

I could not find out how to chop wood, but apparently clicking the small lake shows buttons to spawn more units, meaning they hypothetically mate there to increase population, 10/10

a very challenging game! albeit lacking relevancy to the theme it still was a fun playthrough, the music was awesome, and the visuals are impressive too, great work!

nice work! while I am not a fan of clicking games this was quite fun and engaging, I especially like the artstyle, very unique, and the voice acting is a nice touch, great work!

did not run :(

a great entry with perfect fit for the retro theme, a classic RPG with a twist, great job especially with theme relevancy, this was a fun albeit simple play-through, with much care put to it, I really enjoyed it!

cute visuals perfectly fit for the retro theme, the gameplay albeit simple was tons of fun, great work!

a smart twist on a classic idea, great use of the theme and work!

sorry to hear that! it seems like that happens randomly, have you tried another browser? or could you perhaps tell me more details? and thanks for your time!

edit: it seems there is a problem with the fall death script that only happens on the Web Build, should be fixed now, have fun!

truly a brilliant entry! to think that a mix of classic games would be this fun! marvelous interpretation of the theme, all the sub-games play well and I encountered no bugs, overall a pleasant experience, and the most unique take on the theme I have seen so far, bravo!

This looks mighty interesting! a board game like this could have much potential, I shall write a full review once I dedicate time to enjoy a full session of this experience.

Thank you for the honest feedback! I barely had time to play test so it is no surprise that there are a lot of broken surfaces and collisions, especially the bridge island was a last minute addition, so sorry it ruined your experience 😥
didn't have time to add a boss or even text backstory as you can see 😅 but you can roam around and enjoy the view I guess, collect all the hidden red coins, blue coins and 3 stars which are supposed to make you win but I didn't implement that yet😆
I suggest you explore the crouching jump, it has high reach and can make you reach many places when paired with the slide,
thanks for your time! 😄
Edit: I just added a Windows build with proper controller support, fixed some stuff and added new platforms too! try to win now!

I too legit forgot about this jam but since they gave an extension I decided to try and make anything for the sake of trying! I love crunch 😭

oh my this looks fantastic! I am interested in prototyping an anime robot fighting game with this environment, may I kindly ask what is the license on this?
again this scene is truly a wonderful composition! excellent work! 👌

just played the demo and listened to the devlog, I understand the feeling of not finding the right direction for the game, and its hard to really find the optimal approach to get a game to reach its potential, but I really like the vibe of the visuals and this could totally be a survival/horror adventure!
either way keep up the good work! even if you have to rework some stuff surely the core gameplay will polish itself with time, great work!

okay  thanks a lot! I think I understand.

running around and combat and stuff is okay as long as I include a strong narrative and plenty of dialogue and characters for interaction! my point is to convey the plot of my game after all so I think I got this!

I too want to ask the same question!
Interactive fiction is a very loose concept, does that mean we can make any genre of game as long as it has dialogue and a well defined story line?

oh my thank you for you generosity! I will surely credit you properly and link back to your account! people like you are a blessing to the world! and you inspire me to give back to the community!

Very cool and well crafted! btw are they royalty free and if not how can I credit you in my games?
thank you a lot!

I see VN, I put 5 star :)
