How does your game fit the theme?
The game depicts a fight with a 'final boss' in a dungeon. However, in a reversal of roles, the player controls the boss and the AI controls the adventurers. We designed the mechanics around giving players the power fantasy of being a boss (like heavy weapons and second phase of combat), but also some of the negative aspects (long, telegraphed windup animations).)

I really like the idea and the funny dialog. Playing as a boss works really well when you unlock the laser beam. It was fun!

Great artwork, cool idea. I find the music irritating though, sorry.

Loved the dialogues and the message of the game! Combat is fun but needs some adjustments. Good job!!!

Funny dialogues, makes the game funny and interesting in a way, but I wish there is a way to skip the dialogues, skimming through and get to the gameplay, an option for that will be cool. I like the idea of becoming the final boss, that is called Brian and smashing the adventures with all of his abilities. The abilities are something that makes the game fun for me, being able to attack in different ways at the adventurers, very good! Art wise, I feel more details will enhance the game a lot, don't get me wrong, I like the art, its very simple and easy to understand, I especially like how the monster looks, but I feel the world feels very lacking, and one dimensional in a sense. More details would make the game look much more amazing. I find the music to be very repetitive and having more variety would be good, like Phase 2 having its ultimate music epic soundtrack. I also feel the gameplay loop is very short, would like to prolonged the smashing of puny adventurers and laser beaming them to death a bit more instead of restarting the game.

Overall, a very solid game that I quite enjoy! Very fun game with funny dialogues. Love the game mechanics for the monster as well!

Definitley felt like I was playing as a boss monster from an rpg

Developer

Thank-you for playing! Glad we managed to make you feel that way, that was definitely the intent :)

At first I was like "ugh, the classic you are the monster theme", but I have to say you fully dedicated to the idea (The second phase, the reversed "defeat" or "win" messages...) and I liked it!

Developer

So glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, we've seen quite a few games with a similar theme, but I hope there are still a few features that make ours unique (like the second phase, as you mentioned). Thanks for playing :)

Playing as the boss is a really interesting twist. The beam felt great by the way. My only complaint would be that you can't skip the dialog to retry the fight.

Anyways, the game is awesome. Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah, if you think it's bad now, imagine developing it and having to sit through the cutscene every time you wanted to fix a bug! We did quickly add a skip for dev purposes, but ran out of time to add it to the game, thanks for the feedback :)

The beam is glorious. Really funny game and great visuals! Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! And glad you liked the beam - it was part of the original one-sentence pitch for the game so it was fundamental for us to make it feel as good as possible to use.

I got them and it was not even my final form!

Developer(+1)

Wow! Great job! I don't even think the devs have managed that - we tried to tune the game so the adventurers would always win the first round, but clearly we couldn't stop you :)

Really nice and short game! Also loved the second phase transformation.
I made some of the heroes chase Brian to the lava in my playthrough and was wondering if that did anything?

Developer

Thanks for playing :) Yeah, the lava is set up to hurt both the adventurers and Brian should they stray into it, although perhaps that could have been more obvious. Given that you're the boss, though, maybe it shouldn't have hurt Brian and he'd have been able to use the environment more to his advantage..

Loved it!

The idea is cool and i just love how it says "Brian, lives here" over the life bar hahahah

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing, I'm really glad you noticed the name transitions - I was afraid they were too subtle..

Submitted(+2)

Loved the humor in this one, especially the name above the health bar being adjusted as the cutscene progressed. Of course, I was fooled by the phase transition the first time I played, that was also a nice surprise! My only wish would have been for there to also be an easter egg when actually losing the game.

Gameplay itself may not be revolutionary, but it does its job perfectly well. Nicely done!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, the win/lose states are things which came in super-late (though we should have got them in much earlier) so we didn't have much time to add anything there. Something more elaborate when you lose would have been great - some sort of victory animation for the heroes, or them actually finding some loot maybe?

nice quick gameplay, perfectly fits timeing for gamejam product.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing :)

Pretty funny and very slick execution! The giant lazer is huge fun to zap with! Only critique is it was hard to tell how much damage I was doing to the "protagonists"

Developer

Thanks so much! @JohnEz32 worked really hard on getting the laser feeling as sweet as possible. On the damage feedback point, we discussed having health bars and ultimately decided to use combat dialogue instead as we felt like the boss probably wouldn't know how much health the player has and wanted to immerse you fully in the role of Gorignak/Brian. HOWEVER, that's just one of our experiments with the theme that's thematically strong but probably detracts from the gameplay a little. Thanks for the feedback :)

I destroyered the party. Simple reverse, but it was a fun little game.

Developer

Thank-you for playing!

Love Brian, may he have his peace! Thematically fits, very cohesive in general with the chibi characters and vibes, and funny dialogue. Nice game!

Developer

Yes! I wish the adventurers would leave Brian alone too - we all deserve the chance to just chill out in our underground lava fortresses. Thanks for playing!

Made me laugh multiple times in just the intro - idk why the name Brian is so funny lol. Loved the simple gameplay, and it got 100% cooler once it went into the second phase of the boss's health. Definitely one of my favorite games of the jam so far. Great job on the Ai for the enemies as well! Overall, really well made game :)

Developer

Thank you very much for playing, and I'm really glad to hear the humour landed for you :)

The gameplay feels kinda shallow, but the dialogue's relatively funny. Decent take on the theme, too. Good work!

Thanks very much for playing!
