Very fun and easy to understand gameplay. I made it to about wave 15 when unfortunately an enemy spawned off screen making it impossible to kill.

Easy but fun. It would be great to see more challenges. Great visuals. I kinda want the game to be called KILL. THEM. ALL.

I immediately recognized you when looking at your pfp. You made Halyx for the Wowie jam last year! Anyways your game is awesome. The colours are nice, although I'd probably make the feedback for killing enemies more extreme.  But the movement is really snappy. good job

Wow, thank you very much for the rare 3d game here! :) And for the working mac build as well! The presentation with all the characters, shaders and camera is just great. I like it a lot, the main mechanics feels a bit monotonous though. I understand the time limitations, it's just some piece of advice for future maybe. You could let the character switch between several columns, maybe give him some powerups... Anyway, the game is really good :) Congrats on that!

Really cool game, love the soundtrack and style. The game felt rewarding, but progression was a little slow. I got to level 20 before I got to an enemy that I seemingly couldn't kill, is it a bug, or am I just not smart enough? :D

Played really well, smooth animations and responsive controls. Well done!

Developer

This is most likely a bug, sorry :P We didn't have much time for playtesting

I thought the concept and the presentation were pretty neat. The UI was pretty nice - not too cumbersome. Also fits the theme! Nice work!

What a neat concept. I included it in my GMTK compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

Hey thank you! Great video

The style of this game and the vibe that it gives off are quite good. The visuals look excellent and the execution is great. I only got to wave 12 because I want to play more games so I may have missed something, but I wish that the killing mechanism was a bit more diverse. I kinda just ran in a circle for 5 minutes killing enemies which wasn't bad but it could've been expanded upon. Everything else was great though and I really enjoyed it!

My team and I loved your game from last year and we literally searched you up personally to see if you did another one this year. Yup. Did not disappoint. See you all again next year for another banger

The visuals and audio were really nice. It is an interesting concept but there are some areas that need work to make the game more fun.

For me at least the game didn't become as fun until I got to the later stages of the game (I was able to get to Wave 31). I think that may because the player has too much health. It may be more effective to give the player an HP boost every other wave and lower the total HP.

I also found it really easy to dodge the bullets. To make the game more challenging you could turn the bullets into homing bullets that follow the player that eventually stop after a given amount of time.

Maybe you could also have the center object that the player is connected to move around to make the game more challenging, and maybe possibly put a cap on the amount of distance that the player can be away from the center object.

The game could definitely could use some work, however the variety of enemies we're really unique and the visuals looked really good. The use of timing (especially with the explosion enemy) was also pretty challenging so that's cool.

I absolutely LOVE the visuals, the style and the promise this game makes. With a few movement mechanics and different arenas, the game would be incredible. Sadly, the gameplay it's pretty straightforward as it is now. Keep on working please, I hope for a post-jam update :)

The game looks really good for a 48 hour jam.  Unfortunately that's about as far as my praise goes though because the game quickly became extremely boring. I just ran along the walls in the same direction for like 10 minutes straight while new enemy types kept getting introduced. The only time I had to change my inputs was when enemies would spawn touching the wall and I would have to awkwardly shove my body into them hoping the laser would clip them. I had to stop playing after a while because I found a four way turret that was impervious to damage. I'm pretty sure it was a glitch? Then I discovered there was no pause menu or any way to exit the game at all. It plays more like a rough prototype of an idea of a game than an interesting interactive experience. Its a really valiant effort though. The visuals and enemy variation are really great for a jam this short. I feel like it just needs maybe one more big mechanic to change it up and make it more fun.

Hey thanks for harsh feedback! My teammate had very little time during the weekend, so it's lucky that the game has even seen the light of day, but I agree the game could use something to spice it up

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yep, I broadly agree with everything said in both comments lol. "Rough prototype" hits the nail on the head - but we spent fewer than 30 hours combined, so I'm not too surprised 😂

Of course, no problem! I really do think its impressive for the time limit but just needs more work.

First off, I think the 3D Tron-like style is  really cool. Good job on that

I liked the concept but as others have said, there isn't anything keeping me from just running in circles at the far edge. I got to level 33 only taking damage 3 times before I quit. What ends up happening is there isn't any interesting choices for me to make, besides occasionally switching directions.

I think there needs to be incentives to go towards the center and bob and weave enemies. My first thought is that maybe the energy beam is always draining power and you need to go after batteries?

nice game! the game felt very polished (other than a wave that wouldn't continue) and the concept was well executed. I am really impressed by the amount of enemies in the game! my only complaint would be that taking damage doesn't really feel like it's that big of a deal, so players aren't as willing to go out of their way to avoid a small amount of damage. other than that, great job!

This was such a good game for a 48 hour jam. I love the way you handled the theme. I enjoyed that the games difficulty started out very easy but started to get more and more difficult. Although at the later levels it still felt a bit too easy, and granted for a jam you handled it well by not making it too hard.

The presentation was fantastic! You put all the pieces together in an amazing way so good job. However I had 2 issues, 1 was that there was no notable disadvantage to being far from the center, maybe if you moved slower the further away from the center you were the more reason you would have to duck and weave between enemies. The second was that my run ended on wave 18 with a enemy who I couldn't hit causing my to have no choice but to die.

Both are honestly minor things for a jam, so great work!

Developer(+1)

We didn't have much time for playtesting, so sorry for that :P Thanks for the feedback though!

Stylish, Simple, Sublime.

Pat yourselves on the back for this one!

Very cool concept and a surprising amount of enemies that all seem well thought out and cleanly executed. At some point though, I got a little bored of running in circles. I think it could have been better to have some form of obstacle that requires you to not just run in circles but I'm not exactly sure what that could be. Also it would be nice to have in indication of how many rounds there are so that there's more motivation to get to the end. I made it to round 17. Also it's very pretty. Good job!

There are theoretically infinite waves, in practice the 20th one repeats infinitely, and almost all of the waves have some randomness to them, especialy the last one. Thank you for the feedback! :)
