An ambitious game to make for a game jam for sure! There is the obvious issue of having people to play a game like this with. Not to mention network issues others have seemed to have. I played a few rounds with the dev as they were kind enough to jump on and let me give it a proper go. I'll leave this point out of the discussion and focus on the game itself.

Firstly, I will say that Outgun Online is a fun little game! A simple but satifying 1v1 2D shooter. The gun selection all feel great to use and the matches flow well!

The game however barely fits the theme, each match having a gimmick that heavily affects things is the premise and it's one that could work rather well, but it didn't feel like anything was different. One change was just low gravity which isn't all that exciting and one was called "big guns" which didn't seem to affect anything, maybe the guns were in fact, bigger, or did more damage, but it wasn't a large enough difference to notice. It just felt like I was playing duck game, but without the ducks.

Despite that, I had a good time with the game and kudos to the dev for making a functioning online game within 48hrs!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get past the starting screen, so I can't comment on the gameplay. The music is excellent, and the sfx and menu selection are really crisp, but it needs a single player mode to test it properly.

It's a fun little game if you manage to find people to play with. The graphics and music are really good.

I wish it was less buggy, though. Actually, multiplayer shooters are hard to do properly, especially in 48 hours, and there were some synchronization problems: both players got Victory screen. Looks like health was not displaying properly too.

I got that random rules thing but I wish it had more influence on the gameplay. For now it's run, jump and shoot no matter what rules there are. Although the movement itself felt nice and spot on.

In conclusion, I think, if you do some more polish and figure out multiplayer stuff (I believe big AAA multiplayer shooters perform some tricks to compensate for the delay), it would become a cool fun game. Good job!

very fun game and i like the visual but it seem if the connection is bad it could mess the game sometime it show both person victory with different health bar left.

Developer

Hey, I'm here because of the GMTK Reviewers chanel. Unfortunately I got the same error message like others.

Let me know when you fixed the problem ( - ;

Developer

Might be fixed now, :/

It was really fun to play your game! I think this is the only multiplayer game in the jam, so congratulation on that! I have no idea how you get it to work without bugs in this short time.

Anyway, the art looks very nice and overall the game looks pollished. There is not much to criticize.

Really nice entry!

I'm having the same error as another player in the comments:

Let me know if you can get the servers up and running again :)

Developer

Uh try now

I really enjoyed this but it was difficult to play as I had to wiat a long time for someone to come online and play with me. The high jumps and fast movement look really nice and the spee felt good, however the characters and guns seems a bit small compared to the platforms, and they feel a bit light and floaty in the air.

This was hard to play with a laptop trackpad but I had a good go at it and generally enjoyed it a lot

Developer

Sorry about the wait to find another player I try to stay in queue most of the day

Hi, really want to play your game but having a few issues (unsure if this is the best place to post, but want to let you know).  I'm on windows 10 and downloaded with the Itch.io client.

This is the error I'm getting:

Sorry, turned out the server had a stroke, it should work now that I restarted it though.

the game looks very nice but i cant play it cuz its online and my wifi is not very good

simple but awesome game really addicting and fun to play 1v1 with your friends , great job!!

It's fun and a great accomplishment to make a multiplayer game for a jam, but it feels completely out of theme to me, otherwise any MP game with different arenas would be classifiable as 'out of control'.

Developer

I tried to include the theme some in the form of different game rules, also what did you mean by different arenas, since this game also had differing arenas.

Fun and fast paced. Really cool that it's a multipalyer game

Submitted

Heey  that was pretty cool!!!

Good luck

Wow! Online PVP for a game jam? That's gutsy, but it worked out really well. Very cool! Beauitful aesthetic.

Submitted

Neat idea! Love the graphics and aesthetic. Multiplayer games are few and far between in game jams. Encountered some lag while playing with the other player teleporting, but all in all, cool game!

Developer

Thanks, I was planning on doing multiple servers to prevent that, but was worried that there wouldn't be enough players. So lag is gonna be encountered since only server is in the UK

If you mark your file as being for Windows it can be installed with the Itch app

Submitted

Dang man! That's amazing! Surely not perfect, but the fact that you managed to get an online game functioning in 48 hours is impressive.

Can you please share the net code? (I was trying to make something MMO-like with GMS2 + NodeJS and it was lagging pretty badly)

Developer(+1)

Sure I plan to make it opensource once I fix the code a bit, rn its extremely messy

Please notify me :D

Incredible!
What game engine did you use to do this?

I have an online multiplayer project that I want to do and doing it unity has proved to be difficult

Gamemaker Studio 2 with a python server. Multiplayer in any engine is fairly difficult
