I wish there was more to it, but it was fun while it lasted. Nice game!

I was really hoping to find more easter egg websites that exist... especially inappropriate ones. But alas, that would've been against the rules. I love the use of vaporwave as soon as the soup can starts happening. It is also really fun that it's almost a sandbox game because the inciting incident only occurs if you intentionally do something that you don't have to do! The manipulation of player controls has been done to death in this jam, but your approach was uncommon and refreshing.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Trust me, given more time, I would have added those sites and more >:)

i love this so much!!!!! i'm a total sucker for this sort of fake-os type game, and this was a very goofy and fun interpretation of the theme!!! high marks all around

(1 edit) (+1)

what do i do after buying the soup? i go to downloads and what do i do?

Developer(+1)

then you can open your mail then email the soup as an attachment :)

i never used windows 98, but damn what a nice game. really creative and smart

some feedback:

-in the part when you have to put your name i assumed i had to put my real name since it ppeared all over the screen

- sometimes the cursor goes off-screen. thats fine, but then you grab something and it goes off-screen and you can never used again, making you restart the game. this was the reason i couldnt complete it bc it happened 3 times (my game has a similar bug lol)

im gonna finish it (if i can) when you post an update

overall, great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Yes, I am aware that the name part is confusing after watching a few people playtest my game (after the jam ended unfortunately :( ).

As for the windows teleporting off screen, I was actually aware of this during development and made it so that if you double clicked the desktop icons, the window would be recentered onto the screen, but I was (and am still) unsure how to convey this to the player, but for now, it stays hidden in the description of the game page.

Glad you enjoyed my entry!

It looked cool, but i couldnt pass the name part. Im pretty sure i ddi what was intended, maybe a hint would help?

good game anyway

Developer

Sure thing! Maybe someone used your name in the emails?

I tried it, but it didnt work...

Developer

D:

How about after the emails get scrambled, 3 = E, 4 = A, 7 = T, 0 = O?

Yeah i understood that, i think something about the first name i got wrong, but anyway i dont want you to spoil it to other players.

Developer(+1)

No worries! Yeah, the first name is kinda weird, I kinda regret making it so obscure, but thanks for playing my game!

(+1)

Anyway thanks for making it!

I look forward to the day when we can download soup! Very great atmosphere and visuals! It was a really fun information hunt! The rotating soup can was hypnotizing... I'm going to eat some soup now...

It was a little weird seeing another Windows 98 themed game, but I gotta say you did it better than me lol. Great game!

Developer(+1)

Games like ours are few and far between, nice to see another one! But I must say, your inclusion of clippy automatically elevates your game to a level above mine 😔

Submitted(+1)

I had already played yours and I thought it was hilarious when I found a second 98-themed game!

Submitted(+1)

I'm never buying soup again.

Submitted(+1)

The desktop interface is really welldone, I especially like the click sounds

Is there some other solution than moneysavings ? I feel I can't trust them :p

Developer(+1)

😳what makes you say that about moneysavings? But for now, moneysavings is the only path to the solution, except for that super secret solution, but we don't talk about that.

Submitted(+2)

Ah so theres a solution, I shall return then

Submitted(+1)

Wow, the game is awesome ! It’s original and cool to play, great job ! Maybe a little confusing with all the soup in the screen but still funny.

Submitted(+2)

How the HELL the game know my name ?

Submitted(+1)

Really great presentation and a good execution on an interesting concept. Great work!

Submitted(+1)

This was a ton of fun to play! It really fit the theme of out of control

Submitted(+1)

This was really cool, but I gotta ask: What happened to my butt, and does it have something to do with soup?

Developer(+1)

I can neither confirm nor deny 😳

Submitted(+1)

I was promised soup.. but all I got was SPAM! ';..;'

Developer

your pain is my pain ;-;

Submitted

SOUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the presentation, and the work on the os, it was really well done ! Gameplay wise, it's a neat idea, but i was lost at some points, not knowing where to go.

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking of adding hints on my game page, but turns out, I can't mark text as a spoiler. If you're still interested, feel free to ask for a clue though!

Submitted(+1)

ha ha i'll try again blind at some point!

Submitted(+1)

This is a neat game that captures the out of control  theme really well! It was very intuitive to play (which is a big plus!) and felt good with nice audio + SFX really adding to the game feel.

In the end, I could not buy my friend the soup. What is my name? I forgot : (

Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! As for the name, after the emails get scrambled, 3 = E, 4 = A, 7 = T, 0 = O, and 5 = S. Glad you enjoyed my entry!

Hmm telling from the other comments I do assume this is a exciting game, but I was unable to run it on Mac, it just kept giving me the error of:

The application “Buy Me Some Soup” can’t be opened.

Developer

Sorry about that, I don't actually own a mac so I was unable to test the Mac version of the build. It is probably a broken export due to some issues on my end ( :( ).

Submitted(+1)

If you don't have a mac, then it might just be unplayable on Catalina 10.15+ due to Apple changing some of its policies on this stuff, unfortunately. It might well work on previous versions but not on newer OSX.
