How does your game fit the theme?
I have no control over whether the player follows the rules or not. Progression through this essay depends on a roll of the dice, and it explores different things which are out of our control -- the circumstances of our birth, superhuman entities, and the interpretation of our art by its audience, to name a few.

Did your team create the art for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

We created all art during the game jam

Did your team create the audio for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

That was incredible! From such a basic premise, the game takes us to a unique journey. I really enjoyed the various thoughts and analysis that it provides. The writing is excellent!

It was a long time since I hadn't used my dices, I'm happy I've kept them. In term of design, the game is quite clever. Not only it has various little "challenges" that fits well the theme and the global philosophy of the game, but mostly the "twist" of page 19 was a really fun discovery that spiced up the experience just at the right time. :) Even if it took me some time, I was able to legitimately finish it (although I admit I cheated a bit at some point because I didn't want to wait 14 days).

This is a really great entry. Congrats!

By the way, this was a tough choice, but I think I will go with Panacea by Disasterpeace as (one of) my favorite music. :) As for the title, what it inspires me is both the appreciation of our own accomplishments or experiences, and the realisation that it is mostly meaningless. The game itself is driven by both luck, and our own willingness to play it by its rules. Also it does sound damn catchy!

it really made me think about a lot of things. a great break from all the other games

I really like this. It reminds me a lot of the writing style of Cortázar in some of the more rambley pages of Hopscotch, which is a good thing. I'd love to rate it as a full experience, but I'll be stuck on page 14 for a bunch of days and I made a promise so I guess I'll have to wait. Good job, it is really really good.

Developer

By then, the game will be a bit better balanced (don't worry, you will have still have had to wait!) and spelled better in some places. Thanks for playing!

Where to even begin.    I wish I could give 36 points for how much did the game make you question your life choices?   As it is your points for originality overflowed :D   I played far longer than I really wanted too, including a 14 minute break.    Even questioning the concepts of what out of control means during the game itself.    Thank you very much for creating this unique experience.

Developer

I like games that encourage players to take a break every now and then, whether it's for 14 minutes or 14 days. Thank you for the kind words!

I love this. Definitely a 5 star for originality; I haven't seen anything like it during the jam. I had a lot of fun, especially when you asked me to smack my head into my keyboard haha. This is a wonderful entry and it was a nice change of pace to have to read during the jam. Amazing job!

I am always a fan of experimental games, and more than down for trying physical ones. I followed the instructions to the letter, including stopping playing when thrown back to 0 for the second time, since the rules as I understood them meant I was at a dead end. I admire contemplative pieces like these, and though I may not know whether its more suitable to call what I "did" performance art or gameplay (or whatever suits), but I did enjoy the experience a lot. Nice work! :D

Definitely #1 on originality! Takes quite a bit of time to play till the end though.

It's potentially the longest game in the jam if you roll poorly on Page 14 and decide to be true to the rules

"wow"  but in a deep breath, weight lifting kind of way. Extremely unique on often surprisingly thought provoking. Very well written, thanks for the ride.

Developer

Of course! Thank you for riding!

A really thoughtful and unique take on the game jam theme. It's a game that incorporates aspects of the real world into your play experience, and encourages you to meditate on the nature of games themselves (there's a lot going on in the pdf). I recommend everyone give it a serious try!

I'm so glad to find another writer-developer like myself :) really fascinating concept. I'm still playing my way through this and will definitely return once more to it to reabsorb, but it's super unique. You should be proud!

Fantastic, absolutely brilliant! I totally loved the exploration of game design and player agency here, and would love to see more games that explore the same space.

I got increasingly frustrated at performing the same few loops early on, with either some poorly weighted bones or a soft-lock of die rolls that kept me in the same loop. Sadly, I lost after rolling no dead bones, but that’s just how it goes.

Totally unique and memorable, absolute stand out, one of the best jam entries I’ve seen for a long time.

(Edit: I’d also love to know - was the choice of philosophical register intentionally chosen for this concept, or just the way you happened to write this piece?)

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I think my register was a natural -- one could even say "uncontrollable" -- outcome of my decision to take a more analytic and meditative approach to the prompt.

I appreciate your catching those dice-rolling bugs. I'll be updating this with an ideally-less-broken version of the game once the jam is complete.

Thanks again for playing!

I guess its true when people say "restrictions improve your creativity". It became quite evident when I played your game. Kudos to man, u blew my head off. 😊😊

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I hope you can get your head screwed back on!

😂😂 oh yeah, it took a while. I finally have it with me now.

This was an awesome concept! The way you incorporate it into the out of control theme is awesome, and I had a lot of fun exploring through the different pages! My random dice generator kept giving me the same number–likely the most *out of control* and frustrating part–but overall it was a ton of fun and I can't wait to collect my bones and explore more!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad my game could haunt your dice roller, let me know if you need help exorcising it.

Thank you for your time and the kind words!

Very interesting.

Right now? Vallis Alps - Young

I don't think I've gained any grander thought. We have a similar mindset. But I thoroughly enjoyed your vulnerability. And I mean that in the most sincere way. I think you know what I mean. ^^

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Publishing anything -- game, book, film, comic, comment, what-have-you -- is an act of vulnerability as I see it. I may have just worn mine a little more obviously!

I appreciate you taking time with this game. It means a lot!
