Cute game, funny too! Also nailed the aesthetic really well!
I also really really like the shell mechanic! I think it definitely has a lot of potential. I think it would also be cool to have more interaction that forces you to use/find a particular shell, like a puzzle lever shot you can only make with the bullet shell or a super particular jump that only works with the dash shell.
(I'm also wondering why jumping up into spikes hurts if I'm wearing a shell >:T )
Really though it's a perfect idea and nice execution for 10 days!
Also, crab dance is *chefs kiss* mwah perfect

DISCLAIMER: I'm trapped in the cave, I don't know whether that's where the game ends?
I love the graphics and the music. They're both very authentic, and the latter is very catchy. However, if I may, the fact that there's only one, albeit very good, ground and wall style of tile, is noticeable over time.
The gameplay is amazing. The idea of swapping between various shells with different abilities, each with their own HP points, is very organic and fun, and fits the hermit crab theme. The controls always feel responsive, and if you die it's your own fault.
There's even a little, extraordinarily relatable, story to follow. Some of the funniest, cleverest stuff I've ever read concerning the woes of creative degrees, and man's individual struggle against capital. Oh, woe befall those who pursue the arts.
Amazing job all around
What a beautiful game! I love swapping shells to get different skills, such a great idea. Well done <3
The graphics and music where really good, but the mechanics where hard to grasp since there different then other platformers, but overall its a good game.
I liked the graphics and the music. I didn't like a lot of text in a language I don't know :D But these are my problems! Good game!
Lovely music, lovely graphics, very polished gameplay and i love the shell grabbing mechanic, got lost on level 3 tho, but the music kept me going until i died lol
surprising amount of text and some parts of the story segments made me chuckle
Overall fantastic game!
Wonderfully written, although the sheer volume of text made me skip it by the later levels. Lovely contents, but a gameboy screen isn't ideal for reading vast amounts of text.
The gameplay is very polished, and the different shell mechanics is very well implemented. Congrats!
I love it! The intro itself is brilliant. Game feel, gfx, sfx all really good!
A slideshow like presentation for the text might have been better. As it would have allowed for the player to read the text in their own leisure. Not saying the text crawl is a bad thing, lol. But sometimes the text could feel rather too slow and then when i try to skip ahead a little, it would feel like i have skipped too much, and now i have to catch-up with whatever i read with robotic precision.
With that said, loved the gameplay. The crab -- Anita Dick -- feels right to control and handle. The switching between shells is also pretty fun. Though i kind of found an exploit, which greatly helps in the final level. If you just keep shooting, the enemies ahead can die offscreen. Lol. Saved me a lot of headache.
The animation is the highlight though. The switching between shells, the crab dancing, and The snails bobbing their head, all felt natural and lived in. It is pretty great stuff, not gonna lie. Almost AAA quality.
The music is fantastic and mere appropriate for a GameBoy game. The tunes are simple but majestic, they fit both to the adventurous feeling of the gameplay and the satirical tone of the story.
It was truly a charming experience.
The "Why did I think creative writing would be a great degree" part after reading through this novel at the beginning made me laugh a lot ! I have an easy humour so despite the wall of text after each stages, I enjoyed reading the story (like when you said that the Game Boy was only good for playing Tetris!)
Gameplay-wise, the shell mechanic was really cool and really unique. I like that. It was fun to play!
Good job on the jam!
The game has a great sfx and music and transmits a great gb experience. Loved the globe fish enemy. I was expecting to have more tools like killing enemies from above or something, felt a bit in disadvantage and managed to complete levels by quickly escaping from enemies (taking almost no coin). There was too much text before the first experience of the game imho.
I love games like these. The shell mechanic is great for changing tactics on the fly, and the level design allows using different tactics to achieve the goal. The soundtrack's catchy, and having it sped up while skipping story is a nice touch. I did find the graphics a bit unclear at times, especially the last level, but overall a great experience
Cool platformer, I was having difficulties even in the Normal version but then I got better haha.
Really cute! I admire the pseudo 3D sprites attempt, pretty hard to do!
