Sooo cute and smile provoking. I felt like I puppy playing with a ball. Really cool! I did get some chickens stuck at one point that blocked the path but it's a minor bug and still super enjoyable.

Developer

Thank you for playing gameh8r69 (that name lmao). There are definitely ways to break things, I would have loved more time to tighten up the level design and mechanics so this couldn't happen. Even with this issue I'm so happy to hear this was enjoyable for you and brought you a smile! Thanks again :)

A wonderfully cute game, thank you for adding the double jump, it really helped haha. Great work, keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment R-Doman! No worries regarding the double jump, I wanted to provide another way to play, so I'm glad you were able to make use of it.

I really suck at this game, but it's excellent. I watched it on a stream the other day, and it was really hype. Love the music too.

Developer

Thanks for your comment Cathulhu! I appreciate the feedback. Have you tried Double Jump mode? It's another mode of play you can turn on by holding Select [S] and pressing [Up]. It gives you an extra jump mid air after each regular jump and walljump. Might be worth a shot?

Was it Lumpy's stream you watched? I'm so glad he managed to get through it! The music is amazing right! Larner did a really good job.

Submitted

Oh yeah, it was Lumpy's stream that I watched, it was really fun. I didn't know about double jump mode, I'll try going through it again later. Have a good one.

This game was really nice! Great music in the back ground and stellar visuals. I only got annoyed at the end around 8 minutes in. I was convinced it was impossible or maybe it was a puzzle aspect so I went to watch your video play through and noticed I knew the answer and just couldn't execute. Memories of Celeste however and now knowing it was possible caused to persevere and finish the game in 15 minutes. Fantastic puzzle plat-former, although it did feel a little heavy on the platforming.

Developer(+1)

Hey Jyke, thank you so much for playing and for your feedback!

I didn't get as much time with the level design as I'd have liked, and that has lead to some sections that seemed OK to me, but as the developer I had a lot of experience with exactly how the mechanics worked. In future, I'd like to get friends and family to playtest a lot more before submission so I can iron out these difficulty spikes.

I am so glad you were able to finish though, I appreciate your perseverance! I would have loved to include a bit more puzzling, I am considering an update or remake to this game in future. Even the mere mention of Celeste in your comment is such a great honour, that is one of my favourite games and definitely an inspiration to me.

Thanks again for playing!

Awesome, and really fun! Probably my favorite game of the jam!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback! I am so stoked that you consider this your favourite game, that means a lot to me! I will make sure to play your entry ASAP :)

Nice mechanic haha.

I like so much, it’s very challenge for me and so fun. It’s remind me about a game I finished called super meat boy, need precision :).

I’m curious, do you know if have difference between Pico-8 and TIC-80?

Developer(+1)

Hi Fiwon, thank you for your feedback. Making a game challenging is pretty risky as it can lock some players out, but it does increase the fun for others!

PICO-8 and TIC-80 are both fantasy consoles, but they are different in a couple of ways. Notably, PICO-8 has a resolution of 128x128 while TIC-80 is larger at 240x136 (I cropped the screen for this jam). There are similarities too. Both use Lua and have 16 available colours. I'd encourage you to look at both to see which is right for you. There are also many other fantasy computers, have a look at this list!

Ah, thank you so much :).

Nice platform game! challenging!

Developer

Thank you for playing Hiko!

Really fun mechanics & original concept! This is really cool that there is always tips to remind which controls to use. Jump wall was a bit hard to master, btw. The ball & chicks mechanics are very fun to play with, plus I like the little story aside.

I got stuck by two stacked chicks that I can't move (see screenshot below), but I will get back to it later and try to go further. Cool entry!

Developer(+2)

Hey SleepingPanda, thanks so much for playing and for your feedback. This is my first real platformer and from the feedback I have gotten, I think I will need to revisit wall jumping and what specifically makes it feel good. I'm mostly happy with it as is, but I'd like to get it feeling super fun.

I'm sorry you got stuck! I did add in a Ball Recall cheat in these cases, as I wasn't able to perfect the physics (wrote it from scratch o_o") and didn't want players to get stuck. If you hold Select (S) and press Start (A) the ball will be returned to you. It does add 3 minutes to the timer, but it would allow you to progress and not be softlocked.

I really hope you give it another try as you're about halfway through! I'll jump over to your game tonight and give it a shot too. Thanks again for your comment :)

I 've never knew being a dog was so fun, that's probably why they're always happy lol.

Developer(+2)

Haha yes, dogs that can walljump have even more fun!

Submitted(+2)

This game is super cute and the whole premise is fun. Something I definitely am going to play again :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing Raffile! I'm glad you had fun and feel like playing it again!

Submitted(+2)

I love the idea of the game, the gameplay is fun and well designed. The graphics are very good, the music is great, but I'm going to have it in my head all day ^^' Nice work :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey Shiab, thanks for playing and for your feedback. Larner did an amazing job on the music, I was blown away! Make sure to check out his portfolio.

Submitted(+2)

Stressed me out a great deal as I'm not a platformer in the least but the levels and physics and spot on. I honestly can't believe you got this tight of a game going in a week. Well done. Tunes rocked too!

Developer(+1)

Thanks Matt! It was a lot of hard work. Hopefully the stress paid off for you! I know tricky platformers aren't everyone's cup of tea, so thank you for giving Updog a go.

Thank you Opalir!

Absolutely amazing game! I've had so much so far messing around with this! Way to take platform puzzling and turn it on its head! I really like the difficulty and sort of 'getting over it' styled gameplay where you're often making silly mistakes starting out and loosing the ball along with some of your progress...But then as you begin to plan ahead and figure out new ways to avoid those same mistakes you it all comes together to an ending that of course is worth the short but sweet journey :D Phenomenal job on this one!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing and commenting lloydo, and for our conversation about your experience with Updog. I'm so glad it resonated with you despite the little glitches! It's definitely a game where once you learn the strategies you can just get faster and faster. Thanks again mate!

Submitted(+2)

I love the dog pixel art. The wall jumping mechanic was a bit too challenging for me eventually. The music is great

Developer

Hi Andy, thanks for playing! It can be tough yeah. There is a Double Jump mode available by holding S and pressing Up, if you ever feel like giving it another shot.

I'll add your game to my list!

Developer

I have adjusted the game to smooth out the difficulty and loosen up the timing required for wall jumps. If you're still interested, try playing v1.2!

You can also turn on Double Jumping if the difficulty or tight timing windows make the game inaccessible or un-fun, just hold Select [S] and press [Up]!

What’s Updog?

beat me to it! :-)
