Nice game and cute concept! I had a lot of fun playing through the puzzles :)
It's an entertaining game; even if the protagonist is a barking dog... (I don't like dogs...)
Very good, had lot of fun ! Precision and Wall Hell are sooo hard ! my time : 11:11.7
So cute!
His game was very nice and polished. Something happened to the sound that was not working properly. I can't say.
Congratulations for the game!
Cute and well made game, it changes to have such a distant point of view, I did a time of about 10 min but I had to watch the video twice to understand how to pass ^^
Nice work !
Ps: The music is great!
Thanks for playing pixel-boy. Because I wanted an "up-only" platformer I decided on 8 pixel tiles so I could have the most horizontal space possible. 10 minutes is really good, I'm glad the video helped you, some of those jumps are pretty tricky. The music is excellent, Larner did a really amazing job getting the mood right.
I finally played this and yes, it was as fun as they say. I personally didn't find much of a problem with wall jumping. My time was 9 minutes, but I'm quite confident I could make it 4 or 5 at most.
It's good to play a game without violence for once too. I really liked this one!
Dude thanks so much for giving Updog a shot! I'm glad you were able to wall jump easily. 9 minutes is a great first time, you'll be able to improve upon that easily. One of my mates who loves difficult platformers speedran it in 1:51, which not even I am able to beat.
I do like the idea of making non-violent stuff. I play a few violent games but the ones I really fall in love with are non-violent. I think there is a lot to explore outside that realm.
Really enjoyable game with a cute aesthetic. I really liked barking as the dog. I found the controls were quite slippy and wall jumping was quite difficult - I don't think I really got the hang of it. I also managed to teleport through a tunnel near the section above chicken run. Not really sure how I did that!
The dev log for this in gifs was really fun to read and I'm amazed by the technical feats you achieved within the jam deadline.
Thanks for your feedback Polyducks. I am glad you enjoyed barking, it was fun to add, and I spent ages just jumping around barking at chickens. I completely agree with you re: controls and wall jumping. I definitely didn't nail this, and slippy is the perfect word to describe it. Specifically, I think Boz's fall speed should be reduced when a wall jump is available, as if you're sliding down the wall before jumping.
The chicken teleport bug is a viable speedrun strategy! Haha, it's related to the way I'm doing collision detection and I managed to set up the level so almost everyone hits that bug.
I'm glad you enjoyed the gif-log, it was fun to write and re-live everything coming to life. I nearly gave up on ramps at one point but I'm glad I didn't! Thanks again for playing, your game is burning a hole in my to-play list and I'll get to it very soon.
Fun Game! I definitely enjoyed playing it. I did get stuck at one point where 2 chickens were stacked on top of each other blocking the way with a 3rd chicken directly behind them against the wall (it was shortly after the 3 vertical chicken section), but aside from that it was good!
What a great entry! I really liked everything about this game. I've tried to draw a dog in 16px before, it's so hard, but this is just perfectly adorable! Even the arrow in UP (from the title screen) is super clever. There was so much to like here! I got stuffed in the Wall Hell portion and had to enable double jumps to get up (23mins total, bleh), but the size and difficulty was really just right for a jam game. Props on the music collab too! I was genuinely pleased to see someone embrace the non-violent portion. It doesn't always have to be about saving the world / life and death. And Boz was a totally loveable protagonist. Great work; this got top marks from me!
Oh this is such a nice comment! Thank you so much! I'm so happy you enjoyed the game so much, I invested a lot of time (and sanity) in making it.
That's a good first time! I'm glad double jumps allowed you to finish, it was a last minute addition as I didn't have time to perfect wall jumping.
Larner did an incredible job with the music, I was blown away. I like the idea of making non-violent, light hearted games, so I'm glad that resonated with you and that you bonded with Boz!
Thank you for your support and kind words. I'll definitely be playing your game before the ratings period ends. :)
Absolutely great goiys! Controls fantastically, music and art are great, only nitpicc is that the collisions with the chickens are sometimes a bit off, but other than that, an amazin game...
super fun! couldn't get to far cause i suck at wall jumping but overall fun and great concept! saw quite a few people play through! only complaint is no way to mute game muisc during gameplay that i could see
Sooo cute and smile provoking. I felt like I puppy playing with a ball. Really cool! I did get some chickens stuck at one point that blocked the path but it's a minor bug and still super enjoyable.
Thank you for playing gameh8r69 (that name lmao). There are definitely ways to break things, I would have loved more time to tighten up the level design and mechanics so this couldn't happen. Even with this issue I'm so happy to hear this was enjoyable for you and brought you a smile! Thanks again :)
A wonderfully cute game, thank you for adding the double jump, it really helped haha. Great work, keep it up!
I really suck at this game, but it's excellent. I watched it on a stream the other day, and it was really hype. Love the music too.
Thanks for your comment Cathulhu! I appreciate the feedback. Have you tried Double Jump mode? It's another mode of play you can turn on by holding Select [S] and pressing [Up]. It gives you an extra jump mid air after each regular jump and walljump. Might be worth a shot?
Was it Lumpy's stream you watched? I'm so glad he managed to get through it! The music is amazing right! Larner did a really good job.
This game was really nice! Great music in the back ground and stellar visuals. I only got annoyed at the end around 8 minutes in. I was convinced it was impossible or maybe it was a puzzle aspect so I went to watch your video play through and noticed I knew the answer and just couldn't execute. Memories of Celeste however and now knowing it was possible caused to persevere and finish the game in 15 minutes. Fantastic puzzle plat-former, although it did feel a little heavy on the platforming.
Hey Jyke, thank you so much for playing and for your feedback!
I didn't get as much time with the level design as I'd have liked, and that has lead to some sections that seemed OK to me, but as the developer I had a lot of experience with exactly how the mechanics worked. In future, I'd like to get friends and family to playtest a lot more before submission so I can iron out these difficulty spikes.
I am so glad you were able to finish though, I appreciate your perseverance! I would have loved to include a bit more puzzling, I am considering an update or remake to this game in future. Even the mere mention of Celeste in your comment is such a great honour, that is one of my favourite games and definitely an inspiration to me.
Thanks again for playing!
Nice mechanic haha.
I like so much, it’s very challenge for me and so fun. It’s remind me about a game I finished called super meat boy, need precision :).
I’m curious, do you know if have difference between Pico-8 and TIC-80?
Hi Fiwon, thank you for your feedback. Making a game challenging is pretty risky as it can lock some players out, but it does increase the fun for others!
PICO-8 and TIC-80 are both fantasy consoles, but they are different in a couple of ways. Notably, PICO-8 has a resolution of 128x128 while TIC-80 is larger at 240x136 (I cropped the screen for this jam). There are similarities too. Both use Lua and have 16 available colours. I'd encourage you to look at both to see which is right for you. There are also many other fantasy computers, have a look at this list!
