Nice intro and aesthetics! It looks like a Game Boy game. The floaty jump was a bit difficult to use, it needs different jump heights depending on how much you press the button so it's less annoying. Apart from that, nice game!

This is a nice game, but it lack visual clarity. it take me a while to realize what the health bar look like, for a while i thought it was the heart like symbol on the top far right, maybe you can make it a bit more darker color the more the health go down so it more noticeable.
also when i reach the boss the first time this error massage show up.

Developer

Yeah sorry about both of those problems. Visual clarity is something i realized later, and that's a bug that I didn't know about, but 9/10 times so far hasn't happened. Thanks.

Very solid game. Very nice GBness, great music. It'd be great if you add some sort of flashing / blinking effect for when the player gets hit. Also, adding some hitstun to enemies could make the running ones less annoying. Good work!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the feedback, I see what you mean. I considered adding a blinking effect but settled on particles because my shader setup wasn't working for some reason. Hitstun would've been good too.

The music is really epic! Put's you right into a magical adventure mood

The art and music are both super nice! It also feels great to kill the tiny fairies.

Thanks!

This was really cool! It had such a great feel and aesthetic to it. I managed to beat the boss after a couple of tries! I did notice you were using smooth rotation of some sprites which does effectively increase the resolution higher than a GB screen. Other than this I felt it could easily have been a GameBoy game, really well done!

Developer

Really glad you liked it! Your game is fantastic btw, I meant to say before that I played it to the end with the double jump mode after you told me about it. Very fun, and the music is still stuck in my head.

Also damn, I didn't know that smooth rotation constitutes an increase of resolution. Thanks, I'll avoid it in the future.

Submitted

Thank you! I'm glad you got to play through.

Yeah the rotation is easy to overlook, it doesn't impact on the quality of your game however as it's still really good!

I love the atmosphere of your game! The music is so lovely and the minimalistic intro does a lot and is true to the Gameboy-feel. The platforming was a bit hard with the floaty jumps but I didn't really mind because the levels look so gorgeous with the backgrounds & pixelart.

Developer

Thanks!

Nice to see a fellow Gamemaker Studio game :) I really liked the warm aesthethic of your game, plus it all felt Gameboy-ey too. It was also fun to explore the levels. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! GMS is great for things like this, it's very easy and quick to prototype stuff!

Those backgrounds with parallax where absolutely stunning, also like the castlevania level design style. the boss stage remembered me to Castlevania SOTN , the music is incredibly good!

Developer

Wow, I'm glad you liked it so much. Thanks!

The game seems like a regular platformer at first, but later on becomes very engaging with it’s enemy types.

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

Also, I've just realized. A screen from an earlier version of the game stated that this game used stock images converted to the GB palettes as backgrounds. That screen was left in. That's not true anymore, all backgrounds were made by me in Blender. Please ignore it.

I was really impressed with the pixel art on the scenery, those pillars especially and the parallaxing looked great

Thanks!
