For the open source category, you'll need to have a README file and License file. I can see you have a README but it's not filled out. You can always just put the information from your submission page: https://retrocoder.itch.io/biome-balancer-gamedevjs-2025 as your README.

Fun game to play. You could easily break it up by having multiple levels where the maps slowly get bigger and have more biomes. I wasn't sure what the robot looking things were doing; they seemed to be moving the animals around but there was no real consequence for this. Chill vibes game, love the sound effects and music. The graphics were really cute too. Nice work.

Thanks for pointing out the Open Source thing! I hope you enjoyed the game!

Anytime. Nice work on your game.

So Nice game!

I liked the idea of game and music and g gameplay, Well Done!

I'd really appreciate it if you could try out my game too, rate it, and share your feedback. It would mean a lot!

Developer

Thank you!

Really enjoyed playing the game, the animals are really cute, the biomes addition is also really cool. Maybe adding a difficulty factor would make it even more interesting. Apart from that a really good submission.

Developer

Thank you, I hope you enjoyed! I agree adding a difficulty factor would make it more interesting but in the time we couldn’t think of what would work so we opted for the robots instead!

Very nice interpretation of the theme. There’s such an atmosphere and vibe that I love. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I’m glad you liked the game. The calm and peaceful vibe is what we were going for and I think the music which was inspired by Zelda really helped.

Wildlife balance, nice interpretation of the theme!

Relaxing game, makes me think about the old retro games I played as a child, the visuals, the music, everything remind me of that.

The fact that you made it without engine in 2 weeks is incredible.

Developer

Thank you so much! I’m glad you loved the game and found it relaxing! Making it without an engine is more rewarding for me. We were definitely inspired by old retro games so I’m glad you picked up on that!

Congrats on the extra challenge of not using any engine! cute game!

Developer

Thank you! I’ve never used a game engine before, more fun to do it all from scratch. I hope you enjoyed!

Cute game, like the relaxing aspect of it! It's very impressive of you to create this without the use of any engines!

Developer

Thank you! It’s more rewarding for me to use no engine and I’m glad you found it relaxing!

Love the concept. Super relaxing. Compendium with facts is a nice touch.

Developer

Thank you! I hope you enjoyed the game. I’m glad you found it relaxing. Zaperno made all the facts in the compendium!

Very interesting concept and great job programming the game with the no engine limitation, The music is nice and it was fun to play through it.

A little suggestion could be that maybe the map shows what animal is where so the player can plan routes which tackles the map being too big situation, but its just a upgrade suggestion, as of right now the game is fun, Good job!

Developer

Thank you for playing. The red dots on the map show where the animals are! I’ve now added it to the game description so thank you for pointing that out. I’m glad you had fun playing our game

A refreshing way of thinking about balance! I really like the idea and I am always fascinated if something is completely coded without the use of an engine.

The size of the map(s) felt way too big, as movement is quite slow. Kinda feels like a walking simulator, while due to missing stuff it can get boring over time. The compendium looks great, I like the descriptions of the animals! Music is nice, but does not fit that well in my opinion, while SFX is great!

Developer(+2)

I appreciate you looking at the compendium description, it took me ages to think of them 😂

I’m glad you liked our interpretation of balance. All our games are coded without an engine but this is by our best and most complex! If you’re interested in the code behind the game the GitHub link can be found above where the ratings are. Thank you for pointing out the map was too large as I will keep that in mind for future games. The music was also put together to feel calming with a section inspired by Zelda so I’m sorry you didn’t think it fit in with the game. Would a more retro feel have been better to suit the pixel art?

Submitted(+1)

Great, I'll.have a look!

For the music: As it is kind of a challenge, yet calming setting, I'd go with a "marimba-styled" music. But that's just a personal feeling :D

Developer

That’s interesting. I guess playing around with a variety of sounds will help a ton! Thank you

The game was good, Liked the music. And how the theme was implemented in a unique way which was nice.

Just fell the tree collider was way big. I am a unity developer so I do not know how difficult it is to make in JavaScript. But apart from that the game was good.

Developer

Thank you for playing and liking our game. Credit goes to Ella for the idea and I’m glad you liked the music. The colliders were a huge issue in development as all the textures were different sizes and having to code the collisions from scratch meant I didn’t have time to create a proper refined system. I made a compromise by giving the player some leeway with the collisions but that was obviously not enough for the trees. I want to upgrade my collision system for future games! Thank you for your comments and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

What a cute game! Very satisfying dropping the animals back where they belong. And it's awesome you made all this from scratch in JavaScript! ^.^

Developer

Thank you for playing! I’m glad you found it satisfying saving all the animals and you thank Zaperno for the cute animals! Making it from scratch in JavaScript is another challenge which makes the final game more rewarding for me. I’m glad you had fun playing the game and thank you for your comment
