Awesome!! I really like some of the mechanics you added here, and love the way it’s a two player game made for one. I am totally inspired by the mechanics you added to this game, and might even borrow some for my own :) Great job!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. I’m very glad you liked it. Of course you can borrow some tricks from my game. This means a lot to me.

Really enjoyed this puzzle platformer! As others have mentioned, the key mapping is difficult to wrap your head around, and I've died countless times trying to jump with the little guy using the spacebar. I think I'm close to the end, but encountered a bit too much frustration by hitting the wrong keys when I had almost solved the puzzle. A few of those jumps also need to be super precise, which is fine if it doesn't undo 5-7 minutes of prior gameplay. (as in keeping the most difficult jump for the end of a level). Hoping to get to the end of this once the key mapping is fixed! Great job!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry controls upset you. When the evaluation period ends, I will definitely add a control customization feature so that you can customize it to your liking. I really appreciate your attempt to complete the game despite the inconvenience. And thank you again for playing.

allright I took it for one more spin, started over and got through it :)

not to spoil anything...

Developer

Congratulations. Glad you were able to finish the game. This means a lot to me.

By the way, I also really liked your game, I already left a comment yesterday.

Very good one!

I liked the aesthetics, sound, and also the interesting choice of mechanics for the two characters!

I think that the puzzle component is sometimes weakened by the precision that you need to do certain maneuvers. (The "I know how to do it, but I can't do it" feeling)

Also, I think that you added more levels than the level design ideas that you had. A lot of time you simply do the same thing again and again! )=

Then for the control scheme, I leave you with another take. I think that this is a more natural mapping, but I may be wrong, of course, it needs testing!

- W, Space: Jump

- S: Bloat (S is a key that's part of the WASD that is movement-related, so it is natural to have an action that directly affects the player here.)

- Q: Teleport (If you are Bloated this deflates you and teleport. This key is the hardest to reach, but this is ok because it is an action that you usually perform in safety.)

- Shift: Switch character (Shift is kind of a separate key, so it makes sense to have the only mechanic that is not related to the character control  here.)

I hope that these suggestions can help you!

Thank you for the experience! Keep it up with your work! :)

Thanks for your feedback. In terms of level design, my goal was to make it more than just a puzzle platformer, I wanted to add a little challenge (like in Celeste or Super Meat Boy), so it would be like a puzzle game with some challenge elements. And in general, this was my first experience in level design, so it is possible that some may be a little monotonous. Also thank you for your suggestions regarding controls, I will definitely take them into account when finalizing the game.

What a cute game! 😄

I am usually not a huge fan of platformers, but this one had a nice theme and unique puzzles. I wish the controls were a little more intuitive – I routinely found myself trying to press space to jump. Also I think the puzzles, especially at the beginning, could have used some more variety. The interpretation of the theme was very loose, but I think that’s fine.

But the idea is unique and it is very well polished! It really shows that you’ve put a lot of effort into it! Well done! 😃

Unique and fun game. Art looks good and the sfx feel really polished. The game mechanics are also pretty interesting

Only complaint id have is that i constantly tried to jump with space

Great job with minimalistic art and level design!

I felt that early levels were a little bit too repetitive, but some of the puzzles later on were great. I especially liked the puzzles with two exit points: one for big guy, another for little guy. But I constantly got confused which one is 'I' and which one is 'II'. Maybe you could have made small icons based on their appearance instead? Color-coding the buttons and doors would help, too.

And the last on my wishlist would be the ability to skip one or two levels that you're stuck on. I got stuck somewhere in the yellow area (the level on the screenshot). I would try out some later levels if I had the ability to skip that one.

Overall, a very enjoyable experience!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. This was actually my first experience with level design. I had never made a level-based games before. So I’m glad you were able to like some of them. As for the rest of your notes, I will definitely take them into account when finalizing the game. Thank you.

Green part puzzles were much better, I found earlier parts too slow and mundane.  There was some precision jumps but the main challenge comes from the control map. I was constantly trying to jump with space, pressing R instead of E. Pressing Q where I don't wanted to press.  I don't understand why you did not use arrow keys for movement for example it would be much better.

For example one time  big guy was on top of small guy and instead of just space I also press Q  big guy spawn on the top of small guy which normally where he was already but there was a little spike to the right and he spawned a little to the right and I admit I kinda get a little bit angry but don't worry I won't kidnap your wife.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback. I think I should add a control customization feature next time so I don’t have to try to guess everything for everyone. As for the spike issue, it’s more of an issue with the main character’s hitbox. I didn’t have time to polish it properly, so it’s not the best. Thanks for all your notes.

btw unfortunately or fortunately, I don’t have a wife.

This is fantastic. Wonderful mechanics. This may also be my favourite look on any game in the jam I've seen so far. The music is super relaxing and the puzzles are fun.

This game has such a great premise and art style. I think if you wanted to develop this further, the only things that it would really need are remappable controls and some slight tweaks to jump height.

Edit: the game is so good that I forgot to mention that the letters on the tutorial text should probably be white so it is easier to read.

Excellent work!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much for such a nice review. I’m glad you liked it. And I will definitely take your notes into account when finalizing the game.

Quite a nice puzzle game, the aesthetic is relaxing and it has a chill atmosphere.

The only thing that doesn't quite feel right is the theme interpretation, it seems like a bit of an aftertought. Perhaps a couple more ways to implement a Scale related mechanic would have been nice. A good way to know if a theme is properly implemented is to ask oneself if the game would be the same without mentioning the theme (Scale), and in this case it feels like that'd be the case.

But appart from that I'd say this is a puzzle game I would probably give a try and pay for with just a little bit more polish! Great job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you very much for your feedback.

I don’t know how well I understood your method for determining the quality of a theme’s implementation, but it seems to me that if I apply this to my project and try to remove the “Scale” definition from my game, the game will not be the same as before. Because “Scale” in the game is revealed in the form of one of the main abilities of the character, namely the ability to bloat, that is, change his scale, become bigger. I think without this ability the whole game would not exist.

But this is my subjective opinion and I appreciate yours. Thanks again for this feedback.

Submitted(+1)

I think this fits theme and actually it is  kind of a new perspective.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked that it is very basic. But the controls confused me everytime. Yet a very good concept and a great game. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you liked it.

Submitted(+1)

The thing I like the most about your game is the basic mechanics. I think you nailed them. They are simple yet they allow for so many interesting puzzle ideas. Also big compliments to the minimalist style, really fits the game. The control were also very responsive, which I liked. As for some feedback, with regards to control I personally would have liked to have the basic movement + jump on the arrow keys and space, and have the mechanics on other buttons. I think I would be confused less often and I think it would also allow faster button combinations, and thus allow for more different level designs. Feedback with regards to level design and the main mechanics, I think you could have utilized the mechanics in more ways before introducing collectable orbs that open doors. For example, inflating in mid air and having different final locations for the characters were more ingenious puzzle aspects and I was hoping to see some other cool puzzle elements. I hope I am not sounding too critical because in the end I think you did a reallyy good job! Congratz:)

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much for your feedback. I really appreciate and respect your criticism, it gives me more insight into what players really think. I will definitely take your notes into account when finalizing the game.

a fun concept that you executed really well! the difficulty increases at a good pace, and the way the characters interact is interesting and engaging. on the webgl build, the background was flashing a bit, which made the game a bit hard to play unfortunately. my only note is that i had to turn my brightness up really high to see the game well. maybe increasing the contrast or line thickness could help with this? overall, really well done! i had a great time playing

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for your feedback. The problems you described, in theory, should not exist. I tested the game dozens of times both in the Win version and in WebGL. If your game does not look like the screenshot:

that is, the lines are thinner or dimmer, then the game is not displayed as intended. Perhaps this is a feature of your browser. I’m sorry you encountered this. I’ll try to figure this out.

Submitted(+1)

no worries! it's probably an issue on my end then

I loved the minimalist style, gameplay was good, I thought the controls worked well. Also nice job making so many levels! One small point is the size of the text was small and difficult to read sometimes, when not in fullscreen. Great submission!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you liked it.

I like the 1-bit-ish aesthetic, and the puzzle seem like they're increasing in difficulty at an appropriate rate. Some of the level seem like a double repetition of the previous level, and I think that could be reworked a little bit for the flow of the game.

My only big pain point is the control scheme, I'm so use to using space as a jump in every game that using W seem like a chore and it mixes up all my muscle memory. If the jump was tied to Space and the expanding to a different key, I think it would make the whole experience more pleasant. I also think the teleportation should be possible when the main character is in big form, feels weird to just hit the 2 keys all the time to teleport back.

Another little poitn is that I think it would be nice if the jump heights of the characters were made so that when the main character jumps at is maximum and gets big, the secondary character can still jump on it with his double jump. I had to go back and forth between the characters multiple time to reduce the height of the main character so the other one could get on top.

But all in all, I like the pleasant music, the aesthetic is simplistic but very sweet and the difficulty curve and levels quantity is great! Keep it up!

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you for such a detailed review. This was my first experience in level design, I have not made games based on levels before, so it is possible that some of them may seem the same (although I tried my best to make them interesting).

As for the controls: I thought about making jump as space, but there was a problem with the bloat of the main character, I didn’t know which key would be best to bind this ability to make it convenient, so I decided to leave this configuration.

In any case, thanks for your notes, I will definitely take them into account when finalizing the game.

Submitted(+1)

Very good aesthetic. The mechanics are pretty good, same board multiplayer would be a nice addition I think.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback. I was thinking about local multiplayer, but it’s unlikely there will be players for this.

Submitted(+1)

This is a very polished puzzle game! I love the minimalistic graphics and the athmospheric music. The levels are well presented and the difficulty goes up progressively. I've struggled with the controls at the beginning partly because you control 2 characters I guess. The double jump is a bit weird sometimes, difficult to control well. Overall, a solid game

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you very much for your feedback. I think the game still can’t be called polished, because there are a lot of things that weren’t implemented in it that I had planned. It also has a lot of bugs that need to be fixed.

I’ll also try to take a look at your game.

Submitted(+1)

I got to the green level with two cross shapes. Bookmarked this, I will likely pick this up again tomorrow when I'm less fatigued. This is definitely one of the top games in the jam, the project was scoped well, no part of it is overdone and the minimalistic graphics allowed the development (and thus the player) to focus on the gameplay and level design. The difficulty ramps up well from what I can see so far. I think this is of a quality where it could be published on Steam for example.

Please stop by my Gameoff entry and give it a rating too!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much for your feedback. Unfortunately, I did not have time to implement most of the aspects of the game that I planned, including saving progress. So if you want to play again, you’ll have to start from the beginning :( Sorry about that.

I’ll definitely take a look at your game.
