Original platformer with two characters: one expanding and shrinking and the other one double jumping. It was fun in the beginning exploring the mechanics and solving the puzzles, but after a while the game became a bit tedious. As already pointed out the level design can be improved and all puzzles have a similar solution, at least the ones I tried. Please add a level selection in the beginning, as restarting from the beginning each time is no fun. Being able to save the progress would also have been nice.

Well done!

Neat game with some solid graphics and a unique theme interpretation. I would have enjoyed a few more sound effects but overall very nice.

I'm going to be the one sending the negative review, so here are the stuff to improve:

- Controlls are really confusing, putting switch to [TAB] instead of [E], and then having the "special abilities" on [Q] and [E] would have improved it by a lot. I don't like jumping with [W], so also having the jump on [space] (an industry standard) would be good.

- The "puzzles" all have really obvious solutions as they are all built on a single mechanic which makes the game tedious. The door switches are just places where you have to go and don't really add anything to the game other than more time wasters. Speaking of time wasters, there are multiple levels where you have to do the exact same thing multiple times; and that's just not enjoyable.

- Player movement is inconsistent; why can't I use my extra jump sometimes when I fall off a platform?

- There's a perfect circle to open doors in a pixel-art game. Just why..?

- Game needs a lot more sound effects: for switching, jumping, landing, inflating, deflating, maybe walking sounds etc.
- You can inflate into spikes through walls which is really infuriating and leads to death.

- The slime looking character's hitbox is way too large, I often hit the spikes when I wasn't actually touching them.

- The crab? character just floats on the ground???

Overall, looks better than it actually is.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. In fact, half of what you said should have been in the game by default, but was not implemented due to lack of time (such as the lack of some sounds, companion animations, normal button texture). As for the controls, I will add a feature to customize the controls when the evaluation period is over. Thank you very much again for such a detailed review, I really appreciate it. I will definitely take all your notes into account when finalizing the game.

I really love this! The mechanics stemming from collaboration are very intuitive. Great job also on the visuals and music :)

The art direction was a really smart choice for a game jam. I think some of the levels could have been removed, since several were the same ideas just repeated with slight variations, the repetition started to set in pretty quickly when the same idea of: Jump-> Inflate -> Switch -> Double Jump -> Switch Characters,  was happening every level. Having a few really thought out and interesting levels would've been far more compelling than 30 uninteresting levels (quality over quantity). I also think the controls were pretty rough; having everything bound to where only one hand could control felt really awkward. Despite all that, this game was a solid entry, good job.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. This was actually my first time making a game based only on levels, so it’s possible that the levels might not be the best. As for the controls, I plan to add a control customization feature so that everyone can do everything as they see fit.

Amazing game! Very simple visual style and art design, but really great mechanic. I can feel the enthusiasm in making games. 30 levels! It needs patience and love. Thank you to submit this good game! Love it!

One of the most interesting game of the jam

This is another great game. You've already made so much and you could make so much more. The simple minimalistic graphics with the ambient music is a great combo. A nice clear tone when the player completes the level. Wow! It's funny -- there's another game jam game with a very similar mechanic, with two characters doing two different things, though it make it a little more interesting.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. To tell you the truth, I got a little inspiration from the idea of other developers I was in another game jam with. If you’re interested, here’s their game (they took 2nd place).

Wow, amazing game! I really like the simplicity of the artstyle and the features, yet they are a perfect match when it comes to an enjoyable experience! Neat!

Nice game! Good job, guys!

Personally, I don't like using the spacebar for the ability. It was a little confusing with the jump.

Maybe it would be better to use WASD for movement, Q for Teleport, E for Expand, and Space for Jump.

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. I will add a control setting feature when the grading period ends.

By the way, the game was created by only one person, only me. So thank you.

Oh! Sorry for the mistake hehe... My English is not very good...

It's a really really good job for only one person.

I like your theme interpretation! The use you made of two different characters is pretty interesting. I also found your level design nice, it may be quite repetitive sometimes, but it's still good.

Great job, for sure!

Developer

Thank you very much for your feedback. I’m very glad that you liked the level design, because this was my first experience in creating them.

Excellent interpretation of the theme, due to the different abilities of the characters we got good puzzles! I would also like to note the unobtrusive but pleasant soundtrack :)

Amazing to see what one man can create in one month.

The music volume is just perfect, calming and no repetitive annoying sound through the game loop.

Really well made!

Developer

Thank you for such a nice review.

To be honest, before creating this game, I did some research on level design. I looked at the analysis of popular games, how they work from the inside. One of the sources talked about Celeste, namely about its music. So one of the features that makes Celeste more enjoyable is its music, which does not end even when you die or pause the game. This makes for a more enjoyable experience and leaves the player less frustrated.

Super good. Really clean style. Love the music. Puzzles are tough but fair. Still could be a bit more forgiving though, I'd suggest. I think I'd prefer Jump on Space and Bigfatboimode™ on Shift, perhaps. Most importantly, how'd you make these two little guys so cute?? I want them as plushies or something.

Developer

Thank you for such a nice review. Actually, these two guys took me the most time. Just to come up with their image in my head, it took me about 3 days. Although it may seem that they look quite simple.

Wow, I really love this game, one of my favourites!
Some jumps are very tight and I feel like the game maybe needs some checkpoints
Visuals are minimalistic but perfectly executed (I love this kind of pixel art a lot)
Truly a challenge, but satisfying to finish, very good job!

Developer

Thank you for such a nice review. I’m very glad you liked it.

The controls were a little tricky to get used to at first, but I got the hang of it over time. I like the clean minimalistic art style. Everything fits very well together! Good job!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you liked it.

btw, I really liked your game, I think it’s one of the best at the jam.

Wow, thank you for the nice words! :) I would have liked for our game had as much content as Neoway! I wish you the best of luck in the ratings.

Cheers!

This game was fantastic! I really enjoyed playing through it. I really liked the sound effect from completing a level. The game was pretty challenging and I think the dual player game mechanic made it very fun! I liked your ending as well great work!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback. I’m really glad you liked it, including the ending.

I loved this! Excellent little puzzle game, and perfectly scoped for a monthlong jam. The level design is where you put in the time, and it shows. Definitely a challenge, but the ending was worth it :')

Also, I agree that being able to teleport while bloated would be a nice quality of life improvement.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you liked it, including the ending.

btw, you are one of the small percentage of players who reached the end :)
