I was able to finish your game and received the "YOU ARE A WINNER!" message using Windows and Firefox. I admit, though, that I only reached stage 4 on macOS and Firefox. It definetely has a catchy tune too... de rit, de rit... Cheers!

Something is wrong with the web version on Firefox and Mac. I can only see a thin horizontal slice. It looks like the window has been compressed.

Nice work! I love the little legs of the lizard, the movement looks awesome! Also, nice game overall, it is quite fun! I just think it could need some more polishing, but besides that nice job! :)

The legs on the lizard are great! That’s my favorite detail of the game. I found it a little too mentally overloading to think about which scale to switch to when thinking about their powerups and their level. I usually just stuck with one scale I leveled up a bunch. Although sometimes I would panic and spam all the scales I could.

I was able to beat the nephew nightmare (feels like my nephews made that level), but I just rushed it and took advantage of the invincibility frames to get through it.

By the way, the music slaps. Your brother did great with that.

Great job overall!

Great game! I like you have a tutorial. The graphics are not for me but it was fun to play.

Developer

Thanks! The graphics aren't for me, either.

The good stuff:
- Really cool and unique way of using bouncy projectiles
- Player animations look cool
- Good variety in levels and enemies

The stuff to improve:
- The graphics is where your game lacks the most, the style is all over the place. The colors don't work well with others, the background is way too detailed while most of the other stuff is pixel art.

Some suggestions on how to improve graphics:
-- stick to one style
-- fix your colors by having a consistent theme, color palette etc.
-- give less focus to the background, it's the background overall. You can achieve this by adding less detail to it.
-- stay pixel consistent (pixel sizes are the same everywhere) IF you stay with pixel art. You can also do this with downscaling which is less work but can get messy really quickly.
-- (optional) add an outline to objects that you want your player to look at.

- Aiming and catching the scales is a bit too hard imo, mostly the catching part, which should be a bit more lenient (bigger hitbox maybe).
- Needs some extra juice/game feel (hitstop, screenshake, sprite flashes etc.)

Overall a really fun game that needs some work in graphics and game feel, but once you complete those, it's gonna have a lot of potential.

Much appreciated! Yeah, most of the art is either from other projects or pooped out with minimal effort. I procrastinated on making better visuals and ran out of time.

Very fun and the leg animation made me chuckle. I did encounter a slight bug where I picked up a powerup for a scale and then I had a pulsing powerup on my back. It disappeared when I made it to the next level.  Great work!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Hmm... was the powerup attached to a scale that was on your back? If so, that's intentional. If not... something broke :O

Congrats! Really fun game

I bet you guys were soooo pleased with yourselves with you saw that leg animation working lol. And you absolutely should be, it's fantastic. I also appreciated how the scales bounced around the screen and you could catch them again, that made things feel really dynamic and energetic. It's pretty clear you guys followed the fun in your gameplay and it paid off; this is the kind of discovery I love in game jams. Well done!

Developer

Thank you! As soon as I decided I was making a lizard game, I had my heart set on getting those legs to work.

This is a great game. It hurts, but I'm gonna say the better of the "Scales of Justice" games. It's the game play by far that makes this so fun. The tutorial is straight forward enough and then you throw the player in after and it's great!

Wow ! I didn't expect to see such good gameplay in this jam, really fun and innovative!

Love the walking animation. A very good decision to make sure scales does not leave the screen and bounce back.

it took me a bit to get the hang of the mechanics, but once i did, this was a lot of fun! i like the way the scales scale (haha) and how you can approach the levels with a few different strategies. well done!

Very original interpretation of the scale theme had a great time playing! I think the challenge increases well through each level. Didn't know how to take advantage of specific scale types besides just spamming the ones I picked up, but that proved to be fun and effective!

This game is really fun. Love the gameplay and the progression of mechanics and difficulty. The lizard's legs are great :)
