Great game with nice gameplay :) visuals and sounds were also good but the first part defenitely stood more out for me :)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the meat of it!
Gave you a nice rating! If you like to check out our game too! :)
I'll take a look!
Great game! It's amazing how much content you managed to add in such a short timespan, not just the three bosses but also the levels of difficulty. Love the visual style especially.
I think it's a great interpretation of consequences that the enemies you let escape return during the boss fight, although I only noticed when I reread the description after playing (I was busy dodging bullets and not particularly paying attention to the UI or what each number means h)
The powerups were kind of confusing to me, I got the ability to shoot in several directions & lost it again several times but wasn't sure how I got it in the first place. Also the focus (L) did not work for me (browser version)
Overall great entry, definitely one of my favorites so far!
appreciate the in-depth review! I definitely agree that those things need some more clarity, and thanks for letting me know that the focus didn’t work - I’ll have to take a look and see what I can learn from that. Thank you!
Pretty neat entry !
I like the very NES style visuals and the enemy variety on offer, the fact you can choose between 3 different characters each with their own different shot patterns is also a nice touch.
The music is nice as well and very catchy at that :D
Overall quite solid, well done :)
thank you!
Really fun game! This is a true bullet hell.
For me the game length is perfect. I enjoyed the bosses quite a lot! Patterns and music were really good. Hitboxes felt really fair.
I think I've found a "bug" with the diagonal shooting, nothing too serious, but if you hug the bottom of the screen your diagonal shots don't spawn (maybe their hitboxes clash with the walls out of the screen?).
Overall a solid game, I had fun playing it. Bravo!
yep, you’re exactly right about the bug, the bullets you shoot clash with the wall before they get a chance to fire! I’m kicking myself for not noticing, but I’m glad you enjoyed regardless. Thanks for playing!
Ahah don't worry it doesn't ruin the fun at all. Good job again!
Great game, I had a lot of fun beating it. I think it is the first game in this jam that I've played that has a point of collection.
thank you!
Cool game, I liked the music and the bosses.
thank you!
Good game! Making all those different difficulties in the time limit must have been tough. Plenty of content with all the characters
Thank you for your galactic service Mr. Ratt Jr. o7
appreciate it! Ratt Jr. is honored by your words.
This game was really fun! I liked the upgrades and the consequence of losing my upgrades on special use. Once I found the slow down key it was so hype! Great job, only complaint is the hitboxes on the player. The ship sprite creates a lot of visual clutter considering the player hit box is so small. Finding some sort of solution to make the player represent the actual hitbox or at least be closer to real would help with game feel
appreciate it! On my game page, I have a line about your weak spot being the brightly-colored square in the center of your ship. Would putting that in a more prominent place somewhere in the actual game help?
I'm not sure, its something I have been seeing with alot of the jam games here. From my experience and my own personal preference, i feel like if a bullet touches my character i should take damage. In that way it almost feels wrong to have a whole character and only take damage on the center pixel. But I'm not sure if everyone would agree with me. You also figure out pretty quickly that that is the weak spot so I don't think clarity on that was my issue.
thanks for the clarification
This definitely fits the bullet hell genre so well! Not only that, I'm impressed with how optimized you managed to make this game run on the browser. Usually, when I run games on the browser, my computer fans start to spin like crazy, but for this game, it was smooth and silent. Visuals were clear and it was satisfying to defeat enemies and getting more points! A wonderful experience overall! :D
Thank you!! I actually fixed some issues with browser play as a last-minute effort. I'm glad it made a difference!
Very fun game! The presentation is fantastic, the main menu and song reminds me of SNES Final Fantasy.
I think the enemy shots start a bit too fast and are too many at the start, maybe just a slight more gradual increase into that would be nice. Overall fantastic work!
Appreciate it!
I think it's great game! It was very cool and nice to play this. Love characters design (#RattTeam). Graphic very simple but very attractive, good music and dynamic gameplay! Great job!
thank you! Ratt is so popular, poor Earth and Darkness!
This was a fantastic submission! Love the lore/worldbuilding that you incorporated into an already solid bullet hell. I really enjoyed playing although had to play cheater mode to make it to the end. Some feedback I have would be to maybe introduce what the collectable red/green/violet squares do - I'm still not sure what the green ones did. Also the boss fights were epic, but each felt like it encouraged me to stay on the corner of the screen. Maybe if they had some attacks that forced you to move to certain parts of the screen, or an attack that left them vulnerable if you were way up close and you could take that opportunity to dish out big damage, the boss fights would feel even better. Those are just my opinions though. Overall a really good game, congrats!!
thanks so much for the feedback - I think implementing your ideas would make this game more dynamic and lifelike!
It was so refreshing to play a traditional schmup when so many entries are more so in the vein of twinstick shooters. I almost screamed when I saw there was an item get line. All around this is just really solidly designed. The gimmick of being encouraged to destroy every enemy feels really balanced between the high volume of enemies/ bullets on screen and the increased player range of shooting in multiple directions.
thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed and found some mechanics that you liked!
Such a cool game and a ton of fun to play! Love the boss fights and game design, the art is consistent and well done, and the music was a great choice. I like that there's a choice of ships to play with. The distinct bullet patterns and phases for the boss fights was very well done. Excellent job!
thank you!
This game was really lots of fun to play! I like to try to find at least one thing to criticize because I think it's always beneficial, so if I had to say something, it was a little difficult to get my head around was the size of the actual hitbox vs the size of the ship. Once again, that's very nitpicky and the overall game was really fun to play!
appreciate it!!
This played so nicely :) So many bullets with no slowdown. The art was a lot fun and I appreciated being able to play as a rat.
I also really enjoyed your choice of music. It gave a good vibe.
(thank you cheat mode so I could see the whole thing)
I’m glad cheat mode came in handy!
Nice art and level designs! The bosses give me Touhou boss vibes.
thanks!
A fun game, cause I'm a rat I had to pick the rat difficulty :D, which made things quite hard. Thanks for the cool game!
thank you for playing!
Can always count on ratt
that's for sure
This game is a blast! The music fits perfectly, and the cute art style is charming. I enjoyed the challenging boss fights and the variety of enemies. The special attack mechanic is cool, adding depth to the gameplay. Playing different characters with unique skills kept things interesting. Overall, a fantastic and engaging experience!
Thank you so much!
