Interesting concept, I couldn't beat the boss so I can't really judge the ending, but I like what I've seen so far. I like that the enemies get stronger together and you have to prevent that from happening ;)

A+ on the sprite work, very polished. And very creative with flipping the theme with the enemy, great job overall!

If you have a chance please check out and rate my team's entry. We are one rating shy of 20 / qualifying. "Beatdown Breakdown Boomtastic": https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/928162 It's a rhythm-based brawler!

The control scheme & combat mechanic are ones I haven't thought could be fun, nice job, very creative with the theme too by making the enemies stronger together, cool story too, nice job man.

Keep adding more different combination of monsters, and raise more level of how can it keep combined with each other ;)

nice job, really good game. its the first time where the enemy is the one that get "stronger together" hahaha. and its really fun to play with

Really good game. I liked that I attack with same buttons as I move. One button then had more that one use. I like the story, when I was the evil character and not enemies. Also I like how your game fits the theme. You did opposite thing to other people: enemies are stronger together (which is really innovative).

I've had lots of fun playing this game. Good job.

That was really fun. Great use of the speech bubbles to not only convey story and flavor but also to make it very clear what was happening with the enemies. The only thing I would do would tweak the colliders on the player or maybe some of the environment in that opening level. I went exploring off the path and got stuck in a clump of rocks and bushes for ten seconds before I freed myself lmao. That'll teach me to go off road.

For a simple control scheme, this game was a lot of fun.

In terms of fun this is one of the best ones I've played from this jam. I ended up playing for a while actually. I gave up on the third phase of the boss though because it got so crazy and I kept dying. In terms of feedback, I think the main problem here is the fact that if you start doing worse, it snowballs out of control, and then you can't recover. So in a sense you get soft-locked, because you've messed up and will inevitably die, but you haven't died yet. You can't always tell when you're doomed either, because (during the boss) all it takes is like two or three upgraded enemies to do the trick. It looks like you're in the clear, but by the time you can kill them, five more have joined together, and the boss's health has filled back up. Even then, I still found myself attempting to save the situation. I think it's good game design to avoid soft-lock situations like that.

But other than that, this game is really good. The concept is clever and I found it really enjoyable to frantically scramble around trying to keep the enemies apart. It definitely has that "addictive" quality to it, something a lot of game devs attempt and fail to achieve. I think with some adjustments this could be extended into a really cool full game.

Thanks for the feedback! we will think about everything you said for the future.

Really enjoyed this game, nice Pixel art and the concept and combat was great.

Congrats on "making the enemy stronger" theme! keep up the good work!

Nice! The take on the theme was very interesting. The game itself is a challenge. I wish there was more I could do to sperate the monsters though.
Visuals work nicely and the combat is engaging.

Keep it up!

This is a very interesting game. The boss fight is a little too hard, at least for me, but other than that it was a very fun experiencing. I ended up becoming a monster and everyone ran from me. That's kinda sad.

Amazing! Can't stop playing! The boss fight is very challenging and I enjoyed it a lot. However, I found that being aggressive can be more effective than playing safe. I tried to play smart and safe many times, but there was just no safe place for me! And after I tried to play aggressively, it became much easier and I can beat the boss very quickly. So my suggestion is to make the game more tactical. For example, making the dungeon bigger and that means more space for players to survive. Or adding obstacles that can both help and impede players. But that's all my personal thought. Because most of the time I love playing safe when facing the boss. I always took so long to beat them and I enjoyed the time. But anyway, it's an impressive game!

Lonely loser finds the meaning of love

Fun:

This game had a pretty strong fun element. The main gameplay loop of trying to keep monsters from loving each other. The combat of running into enemies also added a feature that made the player think about how they needed to attack an enemy. Impressive work here.

Innovation/Theme:

Twisting the theme to be that the enemy is stronger when they are together was very clever and enjoyable. It matched the theme well and has been one of the more intriguing ways I have seen the theme used.

Graphics:

The visuals are solid for what it is. The pixel art looks very similar to many other games at this point. They are strong but nothing too note worthy. The dungeons became a little mundane .

Audio:

This was another average area of the game, it worked well with the game but again it was kind of what you'd expect to see. Even as I write this, it has only been a few hours since I've played it and I can barely remember what it sounds like. I had to reopen the game to take a listen again.

Game Design:

So this area was another strong area of yours. You were able to combine all of the given elements and make a cohesive package. The main gameplay loop was strong,  the story built up during play also made sense and had some humor too it. The main critique here was the main dungeon crawl up to the boss was a little easy.  It didn't teach or prepare the player for what to expect with the boss. Especially killing the minions to damage the boss. Maybe a sub boss could have taught this in a safer environment for the player. But everything else pulled together to make the game feel like it was it's own thing and had the fun factor. So great work overall!

I streamed it here:

Thank you for the comment! Totally agree with you about the level design issue. I'll keep improving my skill in that area. I'm glad you like it and thank you for this detailed comment!

Still great work with what you turned in!

I checked your video. Sorry for the trouble with the windows screen size issue. And the boss is actually attackable after it breaks out of the stones. I'll try to give more hints to players in later battles like this. I'm sad that you didn't make it to the end of the game. We have a playthrough provided on the game page if you'd like to check. But thanks a lot for making it and I really enjoyed watching your video!

No biggie, making a game that can fit on every type of monitor can be a real challenge on it's own! And I did go back off camera and beat it. I only got one of the endings though. lol And thanks for checking out the video!

1000% reminding me of my Pokemon Ranger days. The artstyle, the animations, the dialogue, the bg music(big fan of the music), the evolution of the enemies- It feels very nostalgic. Also, maybe a pixel font would fit the dialogue text better., considering  the art style.

I couldn't finish the game on my own so I watched your walkthrough. I must say, the endings were pretty much perfect for the game. They were anticlimactic and yet, they conveyed an interesting message, which I interpreted as "The 1st step to making friends is accepting that your lonely," or something like that. Overall, it was very innovative how you implemented the story into the mechanics. It's a very unique game that could be a really funny narrative story game with some polish. This is the kind of game I'd tell my friends about. Really great work!

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to say all those things. I'm glad you like the game and I'm very happy to know that you liked the music. The pixel font idea is very accurate, we could have done that and it would have given the game a much cooler environment.

Submitted(+2)

Nice idea, great music! well done!

Submitted(+1)

Well done! Really cute and fun. It's an adorable take on the theme!

Submitted(+2)

Really cool game. Thought it was fun. Cool twist on the theme and all and all a really nice package. Well done with the music as well.

Would be super cool to hear your thoughts on our submission as well :D

Submitted(+2)

I like your take on the theme, how you have to stop the others being stronger together works really well both narratively and mechanically.

My main critique would be that the levels all the way up to the boss are a real breeze (too easy), and as such didn't quite prepare me mechanically fo rthe difficulty of the boss fight.

Similarly i do love the simplicity of your control scheme, but it definitely felt a bit spammy (at least for me), the best tactic seemed to just run into the enemy and tank the damage... haha.

It also would have been nice to see the arenas change slightly each time to fit the theme of the new enemies we were encountering as we went deeper into the dungeon.

That said, the sprites are really nice and hold a lot of character, the mechanic is great and the whole setup makes it all feel really charming.

Great job!
