Great game, awesome graphics!

I wasn't a big fan of the grid based movement but got used to it after some time.

For a Rogue-like, this feels very stiff and very slow, but I still like your execution.  You enemy AI isn't very engaging to fight against, and the attack feels delayed.  It's difficult to tell where the tiles are for the characters, which can be pretty detrimental for a game of this type.  I like that you can collect character upgrades, your sprite work is great.  Overall, a mixed bag, but the mix is interesting and can be improved with more polish.

I loved this game music, I  got myself listening to it for a long time, even right now while writing this comment! The game is fun and nostalgic, has a nice art, and a well thought out gameplay.

I liked the way you used the holes for going from level to level, the power ups that allows the access on different place otherwise unaccesable, and the challenges utilizing the character movement.
Congrats on the submission

Great game! I would suggest to improve player's speed, but despite that I enjoyed it !

[SUMMARY] 📊

Just Digging is a surprisingly fun and deep exploration action RPG game.

[GAME DESIGN] 🎲

The two bosses are very interesting to fight against and the exploratory nature of the game is surprisingly deep and well polished. The slimes could've been more thought out.

[FUN] 🤣

Had fun exploring and raged a lot against the bosses. The first minutes of gameplay are pretty bland, which could throw some players off. I'd work on the player speed, hit effects and the enemy AI.

Talks I recommend:

[INNOVATION] 💡

The laser boss struck me as very innovative. Zelda Breath Of The Wild mixed with the classic 2D ones. Kudos. The dungeon crawling part felt a bit too repetitive and established. I'd advise to integrate the theme into the game design a bit more to get some originality going.

[THEME]📖

It's there, and noone can argue against it. Same as above,  I'd advise to integrate the theme into the game design a bit more.

[GRAPHICS]🎨

Tiling effect well done, clear UI. I would have used only one artstyle for the game. If you have an artist, only use their work, even if it's not great. Art in games is a lot about consistency. I'd prefer a game with a not-great artstyle but consistent rather than a patched together work.

[AUDIO]🔊

Liked that there are two audio tracks, one for normal gameplay and one for the boss fights. My advice would be to make the sounds at home by yourself and experinmenting a bit with sound generation before going straight to bfxr to get full points in this aspect. I feel like bfxr woul've made sense in a more 8bit-ish game, not here. But overally, good work on the audio side.

[FINAL RATING]  🥇

Very interesting boss fight and exploration, although a bit lacking on the graphics side.

Very fun little game, could have been better if the player moved a bit faster or not tiled based imo :)

Can you rate mine ? https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-3/rate/572864

Nice game, the bosses are really hard but require a lot of timing. Nice job

I love how you have this sense of "progress" going on, kind of feels like Zelda in that sense! The boss was really fun to fight, was challenging but fair. Had fun, but the only thing that bothered me was how I didn't quite understand when the slimes move or attack.

There are many features that I really appreciated in this game. Firstly, I liked how a death let you start back on the same level. I also like how every enemy's movement was based on yours like how turn-based rogue-likes should be. This really turned the game into taking a step back and calculating how many steps you should take to avoid a hit, even from a slime. Great work all around including the appropriate use of banger songs. Keep up the great work!

Fun music and sounds! Slow but I found attacks really satisfying.

Pretty cool game! It sometimes felt a bit slow to move around, and the slimes seemed pretty unpredictable, but the final boss was a pretty cool test of timing, and I quite like the final attack where you had to use the floating ability to avoid his attacks. The environment was perhaps a bit bland, but still looked nice, and it was always clear where to go. Yeah my biggest complaint is that the slimes seemed to be more or less rng, sometimes they move, sometimes not. I also really liked the music!

Crypt of the Necrodigger. I liked this game, rated it aswell ^^

It was pretty fun and remind me the holes in pokemon caverns :'D

great game overall! I liked the music. I think making the movement a bit quicker or maybe more smooth, would make the game feel  even better. Great job Luka and Eric!!

I downloaded the Mac version, I found some of the sounds to be too loud. The music was good but the attack sound was too loud.
