I got good news!
It won't be 15 bucks if we release it on steam. Hoping to show some stuff off soon!

audiovisually, this game is a treat! the bosses seem to have a lot of variety, too.

Developer(+1)

Tuna outdid himself, I was shocked tbh.
Thanks for playing and commenting~
(it means a lot!)

quite hard for my liking, but an excellent game indeed, the mechanics are interesting and well thought out, so the gameplay is very fun, and the visuals are very pleasing indeed, good job!

Developer

Glad you liked the game, and thanks for commenting!
We already have plans to balance the game further after the jam, as that has been consistent feedback.

That's a really nice game! I like the ambiance, the graphics and the controls are smooth!

Thank you for commenting and playing!

I really like the arts and mechanics in this one, The second boss has a huge ramp up in difficulty compared to the first one that took my by surprise, but is still very doable, A very nice game overall!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Really fun and challenging! I couldn't make it to Midas with more than 1 or 2 health, but didn't feel it was disproportionately difficult. All of these sprites and attack patterns are awesome. Part of me was wishing there was a dodge, the other part was glad there wasn't one just to spice up the typical format of the top-down combat genre. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I had considered adding a dodge a few times (and lots of people have mentioned adding a dodge) but I do plan on keeping the movement as it is (though maybe speeding up the player a bit). I felt like adding the dodge prolonged the game too much because it encourages you to run away from boss attacks rather than stick near them.

Great reasoning! Keep it out.

this game is awesome! the second two bosses really ramp up in difficulty, but not so much that it's impossible - I just really needed to get used to the timing of the perfect shots. There's a really unique art style and gameplay feel here and I'd love to see where you take this game if you continue to make it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And this isn't official, but there are more plans in the works

Very nice game super cool mechanic

Developer

Thanks!

Top notch boss design and audio-visual side of the game, and I absolutely loved the main mechanic, it gave me the perfect balance of dodging and trying to be risky and getting the attacks yourself. My only gripe would be that the player is a bit slow at times and that it's not communicated anywhere that you can't deal the damage with the orb itself, I spent a solid minute on the first boss without getting that you need to collect projectiles. Still, I had loads of fun with this game, great job!

Developer

Thank you for the compliments! The boss design was tough to nail, I kept making the bosses too hard and the vast majority of my time was spent just rebalancing the game over and over again lol. The player being slow is definitely a comment I've gotten a lot so I'll be speeding him up post-jam. And yeah, trying to defeat bosses with your orb is something that everyone tries at first. I had hoped the key at the start had been enough to communicate how the player is meant to be dealing damage but I'll definitely be coming up with something more post-jam.

It was fun! The gameplay feels very rewarding to take boss attacks while they shoot at you, nice juice and general polish too, it's very nice :)

Had some difficulty reading the font though

Developer

Thank you, and sorry about the font! Only so much you can do with so few pixels

Submitted(+2)

good submission! The core concept of the game, catching and throwing back projectiles is absolutely genius. Plus, the "perfect charge" thing was also done well. However, the combat could've been a ton more juicy, espcially with the perfect charged shots, and I wished the player was faster or had something like a dash. The soundtrack is a bop and the boss design was great!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I had pondered adding a dash a few times, but ultimately scrapped the idea. Having the option to dash away from projectiles instead of stay near them so you can grab them makes the bosses drag on needlessly long because you miss so many opportunities when you choose to dash, and you'll often choose to dash without even realizing it just outta force of habit

As for combat, I wanted to add screenshake for the perfect shot but worried it'd be too much lol

HITSTOP

Developer

Smart!

Submitted(+2)

Very juicy! I stil didn't manage to beat Midas. I'll try later. By the way, I liked the Midas's track the most. Personally, I never played a game with this mechanic, very unique for me. The squash and stretch, thick outlines, very charming! Well done!

Suggestions:

  • The character could move a little bit faster, maybe;
  • The hitpoints of boss 2 could be less. I had to dance a lot with it.

That's it, good job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for the feedback! During the second boss, were you getting perfect shots? If not that might be why the health was too high -- the boss fights go by much faster when you get perfect shots

Submitted(+2)

Oh, I see! When the aim becomes yellow, right? I'll try that more... meticulously!

Submitted(+1)

Alright! Perfect shots made all the difference. Midas defeated! All good now!

Submitted(+2)

Maybe my favorite jam game. The polish is handled really well, the theme usage is awesome. A great entry a big gg!

Submitted(+2)

One of the best games out there and the sound track is awesome!

Submitted(+2)

Amazing all-around, gameplay fits the theme, lovely pixel art, and excellent juice for all the mechanics and visuals.

Submitted(+2)

I really like the orb mechanic. It feels great to play, both in terms of controls and how the bosses work. The pixel art looks great too!

Nice work!

(+2)

wow this game is cool !

Submitted(+2)

Nice! I'll just write some things I liked in no particular order.

- the fact you have the first room, where you can check out the main mechanic, and then a pretty easy boss, where you do that again, but in motion, and with little stress.

- the boss design. Cool (and readable, which is important) attack patterns

- art style! Loved the Midas with the hand on the head!

- tight controls!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! It means a lot :)

Submitted(+2)

Cool game, I really like the getting items / attacks and returning them to the enemies. The timing to do it is way to precise though, the art style is very similar to the art style of "FartFish", weird coincidence

Developer(+2)

such a funny coincidence indeed

don't worry -- we're not here to cheat you guys out of your money, we're just here to have fun :)
