How does your game fit the theme?
Roll and acquire dice to navigate the dungeon, and the player looks like one too! Enemy movements are based on a 4-sided die, and the level design is influenced by the probability of movements.

Cool game, has also nice graphics. Well done.

nice game! very creative and fun to play. the music was good, but dont restart it after every level

Developer

Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, that was my last 45 mins of frustration right there! I wanted the music to play through the first 4 levels and the final level does have different music. My music manager code was very stubborn and did not want to work for me without bugs so I had to remove that part so I could submit :(

Great game that suited the theme and fun to play :) Awesome!

Developer

Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed it!

This game was really fun to play, especially when you get more than one die. It felt like a good implementation of input randomness like someone else mentioned. I was going back and forth about whether or not I thought the bad guy should have their path displayed. Maybe you only show the next move? I kept dying, but maybe I'm just bad lol

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and glad you enjoyed yourself! Were you able to beat the game?

Yeah it was an oversight on my part, but something should be done to make enemy movements feel less punishing! I'm sure you dying was just bad luck ... or was it? :)

Submitted(+1)

Awesome use of theme on this one well done. I wonder if the game will be more fun if you were able to attack enemies if you rolled an exact number to land on their tile.

Developer

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, were you able to beat the game?

And I definitely agree, combat was something that I had originally envisioned but alas, wasn't able to implement it with the given time. Something I would love to add!

The concept is great and original! I managed to finish the game, ("Or did I?" :-)).  Rolling the dice is all about input randomness (see Marks Video on Randomness) and I think that is great! The enemies I was not sure if at some points they were following me maliciously. Maybe you could explore these concepts further: you could show the path the enemies will take, or at least their range, or the fact that they'll start following you. It could make the game more strategic this way. I died a number of times caught by the enemy, but I wasn't sure if it's just bad luck, or that I was to blame. This is more of output randomness and players usually don't respond well to it, especially since it can "brutally" finish the game. Arrgh I digress...:-) I really enjoyed playing the game and reaching it's end! It felt good!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and glad you got to enjoy the full experience! And I totally agree with your feedback, and someone else also mentioned this. I've rewatched Mark's video and I do agree I underestimated the amount of punishment that the player might feel due to that output randomness. What are your thoughts on showing a roll preview for enemies like is shown for the player? That way you know how far they are going to go but not which direction. Or perhaps previewing the direction but not the roll?

Submitted(+1)

actually both seem to be a good idea, and can help the player strategize differently. Initially I would have thought showing the dice roll would be the best, but indicating the direction is a really nice idea too. Maybe the dice roll fits better visually. Maybe the enemies can preview two dice rolls at the same time, and you need to guess between the two and strategize? This way you get a little output randomness that could be fun?  But I cannot say which one is the most cool. Best would be to playtest it :-)

Developer

Definitely, thanks for your notes! Maybe I will reach out to you to playtest!! Thanks again :)

count me in!

Very cool idea and i like the style. Will you develop this further?

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! Were you able to make it to the end? I am considering it, but waiting to get some more feedback and gauge interest in doing so. If I were to continue development, what would you like to see?

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I got to the level with two doors and stopped after that. Not sure anymore if thats the last level.

I'm not sure as to wat i exactly want more from the game ^^

Developer

Haha I think that is the last level :)

Developer(+1)

Also, do you have a Mac or browser build for your game?

Submitted

I could build it for mac, but failed to upload that build within the timeframe

The art/presentation was really amazing, and the puzzles were quite challenging. Seriously great game!

Developer

Thanks so much, that means a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed playing, I take it you made it to the end?

Submitted(+1)

Very cool concept, I had fun across all the levels ! A bit difficult sometimes but it is ok for a small amout of level, well done !

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and I'm glad you had fun all the way through! I agree, if I continue I will need to balance out that difficulty, thank you for your feedback!

Submitted

a bit on the easy side but still cool

Developer

Wow you must have gotten lucky :) Take a look at some of the other comments haha! I am really glad you enjoyed it though, thank you so much for playing!

Developer

Also curious if you managed to get all the keys?

Submitted(+1)

Cool Game! I think you did a really great job with the atmosphere. I think you could've made it so the player can turn around in his movement i.e. that he can go x amount of tiles but freely turn and move, which would make it less rng dependant and make some levels not so frustrating

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it! That's a good idea, I did consider it as well but couldn't code the mechanic up that way in time for the challenge.

Submitted(+1)

Quite challenging sometimes! Gimmick is very interesting and fun, makes you strategize and think about your next moves, which is amplified by limited amount of rolls. Visuals and music are very nice. Loved the game overall!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and glad you enjoyed it! I'm happy it wasn't too challenging! Were you able to beat the game?

Submitted(+1)

Yes, struggled a bit on keys for a bit, but managed to make it with 4 rolls left

Developer(+1)

Nice!! Glad you got to experience the full thing

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the use of the dice as a way to keep you on your toes while moving around.  Getting more dice felt like a very natural and clever extension.  I never fully grasped how the enemies move, but was able to complete it regardless.  You could push this idea to make some really cool.

Developer

Thank you so much, that means a lot! I'm glad you made it to the end. I definitely can improve the enemy behavior. What are your thoughts on showing a roll preview like is shown for the player? That way you know how far they are going to go but not which direction.

Submitted(+1)

I like that idea quite a lot.

Submitted(+1)

I love this game! At first I thought having just one dice was going to make the game a little annoying, but once you introduced more dice I felt another depth of the puzzles. Very cool and it would be awesome if you could make more levels!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and glad you enjoyed it. I take it you made it all the way through?

I would love to, definitely want to gauge interest and then take this further!!

Submitted(+1)

the constantly second guessing myself was rather entertaining I must say! with all of the "or did yous" thrown in there but overall the game was really fun with the last level being interesting and I just wanted one or two more of them as the more dice you added the better the level was, it felt more in your control as to the strategy overall the game was great and I have very few notes!

Developer

Thank you so much! I am so glad you had fun and I so badly wanted to add more levels haha .. maybe soon!

Submitted(+1)

I found this game a neat, easy to understand adventure. sound and art choices made things easy to work with and ultimately it was a fun playthough. Thanks for that. I think the only thing I would have done differently is maybe shown where the enemies were going next as well. solid 15/15 for me.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and I am glad you enjoyed it! What are your thoughts on showing a roll preview like is shown for the player? That way you know how far they are going to go but not which direction.

Submitted(+1)

I honestly think knowing the direction would be cool. you know they wont move until after you do so if that makes it a little easier you could just add a few more enemies. the tension of risking moving in while know you would be boxed in but might be able to escaped seemed appealing.

Developer

Good points, I shall consider!

The enemies are very difficult to work around. because of your limited rolls, you can't just wait until the necessary path is safe, and moving anywhere around them is basically a coinflip as to whether or not the will kill you. I think removing their ability to kill you if you cross their path, and maybe adding some indication of the direction they are next going to go would really help it feel less random. All in all it actually is a pretty interesting concept. It is visually pretty decent, and the music is great,

Developer

Thank you so much I am glad you liked it! Were you able to make it to the end? I totally agree on the enemies, what are your thoughts on showing a roll preview like is shown for the player? That way you know how far they are going to go but not which direction.

Submitted(+1)

i did in fact make it to the end. i've always been a fan of unpredictability in games, so i kinda got a bit hooked for the duration of this game

Developer

I'm so glad you got the full experience, thanks again for playing :)

Submitted(+1)

Adding the extra dice to pick up was a really nice touch, the game might've felt a little too random without that. The enemies were sometimes hard to get around, but once I decided to be patient and actually use my allotted movement, they weren't as frustrating anymore. I had fun with this one!

Developer

Thank you very much! I'm so glad you enjoyed this! Were you able to beat the game?

I'm looking forward to playing yours later!!

Developer

Do you have a Mac or browser build of your game?

Unfortunately no :(
Really wishing I had made a WebGL version, but didn't get the memo I guess.

Cute little puzzler and very pleasing to the eyes, but I agree with some of the other commenters. Would have definitely liked to have seen a preview of the enemy's pathing and to have not died by intersecting paths so often. The concept and everything else was great though, good work!

Developer

Thank you so much and i'm glad you enjoyed it! Did you make it to the end?

And yeah I definitely underestimated the frustration, especially if you aren't able to take multiple hits. Lesson learned the hard way!

Submitted(+1)

Very creative concept and great execution! Only gripe I have is that I think the enemies shouldn't kill you if you cross paths, only if you land on the same square. Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed playing! And yeah I agree, the enemy mechanics needed to be cleaner and more forgiving. Thanks for your feedback!
