The jumping is a little tricky to get used to, it feels quite weighty - so you kind of snap fall rather than it being smooth. The first level might have been the hardest, but the later levels progress at an even pace. Well done overall, keep up the good work :)
I"m guessing my pc can't handle the game it seemed very laggy but I got the basic concept. I liked how you had different abilities based on the die. I felt like jumping even with the super jump was still really hard. I couldn't beat the first level sadly. That's really cool you made the game without an engine
Im sorry for the lag, some libraries could be missing or your pc can't handle it. Try running the game another time (some times stops lagging) or try another level. If the lag persists, I suggest you to try the GitHub version, as I compiled it with lower fps (I didn't have time to update the itch build, I'm sorry), in order to be accessible to all computers: https://github.com/OrangoMango/FoodDice/releases/latest Let me now if the lag persists. Thanks.
The jump, as many users told me, is a bit strange, so I will fix it after the jam.
awesome I'll have to check it out. I'm still blown away that anyone made a game from scratch without a game engine. I use a little bit of Java at my day job. Well it's called groovy but it's java based I believe.
Nice work. Becuse you not use engine i need rate you game by naming convention, SOLID and readable code . Just kidding.
Good job. What fore you it take 48 hours for me it take 48 dayes.
Nice little platformer. Impressive job considering this guys didnt use an engine. Thats just insane. The random abilities and penalties were mostly useless though. Graphics were decent and fitting. Good Job.
Thanks for playing the game. I wanted to make some levels were you must use those special abilities, but unfortunately I ran out of time.
Simple game with have some decent mechanics ! the creativity that u use for this game is also nice !
Good concept! The jumps gravity was way too high, but other then that it was fun. Good job!
Nice little game, but only the jump kinda felt to low so maybe that could be an improvement.
for the rest nice idea and game.
The game is simple and fun to play. I find something off with the player movement, the jump could be improved and make it more responsive. I liked the music and the level design.
pretty nice platformer! The fact you did it without an engine is also great. The changing some parts based on what hits the ground is a neat mechanic to incorporate into a platformer. One thing though is at the part where you need to push the jump pad to a lower level It might feel nicer if you show the player the fact that they need to do so (either by showing a preview of that area by making them go down a bit on the upper level or having something such as signs. I also ran into a bug while playing where I got softlocked in the corner of one of the moving platforms.
I will add signs to indicate in which direction you must push the box. (Maybe this is a good idea?)
Really liked the creativity of having your movement determine the abilities! It allowed me to use some strategy to get what I wanted. Also liked the art. My only suggestion would be to make the player hang at the top of their jump for longer, or make them move a bit faster - my jump felt too short to get over some of the obstacles.
Great job!
I will fix the jump after the jam as soon as possible. I noticed that many players had this issue
Nice platform game! This is really creative. The main issue in my opinion is the camera, add a damping to the camera will smooth the movements. But good job!
Nice game! The idea of what number the dice lands on being the power up is pretty cool (albeit similar to our game so I might be bias) and I really like the level design! I did encounter a few bugs, for example I got stuck on an elevator on Level 4, but the option to press and K and kill the player did alot to ensure the game remained playable. My main issue is that the size of the game is quite large, and the movement did feel a bit clunky at times. But then again, it's a game jam, and things like that are to be expected. Good job!
Thanks, the size of the game is mainly occupied by the java runtime environment unfortunately.
This is actually the first platformer I encounter this game jam. Neat dice-roll idea and cool difficulty curve that keeps you on the edge. I played all of it and had fun!
Like the changing effects and the level design is pretty strong!
Cool concept, the dice modifiers kept it fresh and the levels were all pretty interesting. I'd say the platforming mechanics (especially the jump arch) and the camera could use some fine-tuning to make things a little more smooth, but overall not bad.
Thanks 👍, Yes I know, the camera should be smoother but I didn't have much time to do it. 48h aren't really many.
Super large! There's so much content here! Fun little platformer. I had some issues with stuttering at times, not sure if that's a game optimization issue or if it was something going on in the background on my PC, either way fun game!
Thank you for playing. As I did my game without an engine, I had no control over FPS. If you wish to try the game with a better performance, you can download it from github here (I just lowered the FPS in order to work on all computers): https://github.com/OrangoMango/FoodDice/releases/latest.
Great art! Levels felt fair, I enjoyed it!
The first thing i notice is the sweet song on the title screen, the game has a very nice pixel art style too we can see that everything was handmade , i enjoyed playing through it but my computer must be missing some java libraries which unfortunately made the game lag a bunch, congrats on your submission for the gamejam!!
