Love the graphics and writing! The gameplay mechanics and puzzles are interesting. Pushing objects doesn't work consistently, sometimes I had to push, walk off, come back and push again several times before the damn barrels moved.

Excellent game! Just to let you know, I crashed the game in the middle of the level where the button opens the door and the iron bars that drops a key - swapping the key from the skull on the pressure plate crashed it! Strange. Despite that, this is an excellent little puzzle game with a lovely presentation and funny nice story.

Developer

Thanks for playing and for telling me about the bug! There seems to be an error with some memory access in the web-build. I don't get it in the unity editor, so I will need to do some testing to find what it is.

Love the visuals of your game! I also really appreciated the sound, world, and dialogue it all really came together to make a lovely experience that I can definitely see being expanded on with more levels, more facial/body reactions to events ( throwing Han makes him look surprised/worried, perhaps ) and more mechanics!

this seems like something that could totally go to a full release post-jam without even seeming like a jam game. It's just an all around solid concept and execution :)

Good job!

Awesome game! I really like the stylish pixel art and lighting! Amazing work!

Love it!
Felt a bit blind stumbling in the dark (which I guess is the idea) but thanks for not hiding any surprises there~
Great job!

Very nice. I think the two entities (skull and body) working together is neat. It definitely has a classic yet unique feel to the game. Having the barrels and the locked doors is a good change up. I also think the subtle movement of the head animation to the body is a nice touch. The rooms do feel a bit...empty though. The lack of music in game adds to the emptiness. I played about 5 or 6 levels in. I found the wisecracks to be fun. The hardest part overall was the controls. I didn't know I could use Z and X for picking up/putting down. I went systematically through the keys to figure it out. Also, in the beginning, he says "Hey keep moving right" but I didn't know what buttons were the move buttons (wasd or arrows) and the skull doesn't move and the body is out of sight. So I for the first minute or two didn't know I was doing anything. I thought the game was stuck until eventually the body waltzed in. Some footsteps will help with that, I think. And a brief tutorial on controls could be good too. Nothing too explicit. Natural delivery through dialogue is fine.

solid entry, and quite an achievement for a solo dev to pull it off in only 48 hours IMO. great job!

Original and stylish puzzle game! People have already touched on the weird controls and difficulties picking up barrels and keys so I won't talk about that. My main complaint is the darkness that forces the player to guess where their character is. Stumbling around in the darkness is not the most satisfying experience when having to solve a puzzle that has to be reset when messed up. Still I really like the direction! Great success <3

Really awesome, I love your game so much! At beginning i even this game was stucked, thanks for the skull talks to me at that moment. Great result for this theme and very good tone and rhythm for playing

btw i stuck at this situation hahah :

That's a great idea! Love the graphics, puzzles and the dialogs between them. I would love to see this game expanded

Love the art style! I really liked the swapping held item mechanic, which can go unnoticed if people didn't stumble upon it.

Great work on the game!

i really like the art style of this game as well as the puzzles. i do agree with some people about the controls because personally they're a bit weird especially with dropping items (maybe you could put an indicator in front? idk). that being said though, it's still a pretty solid game. well done :)

This game was really really great! It was original, I liked the visuals and the characters are really cool. It felt like a really really well realized game for a game jam!

My only complains are that the game did crash once, though it wasnt a big deal, and I do wish the game had explained the controls at the beggining because my first minute of playing was spent trying to find out what the "grab" button was lol.

That being said, I did love the introduction with the whole thing where you dont know where you are and then the skull tells you to move right lol

Developer

Thanks for playing and that you liked it! Not writing out the controls in any way is something that would be addressed if I continue working on it.

I love the artwork, the animations are very smooth. I love the concept of puzzles revolving around having to pick up and place your light source that limits what you can see.

However I’m unable to progress beyond the level with the key. I can’t see how to pick it up

Developer

Try standing on the skull =)

Thanks for the gif showing the issue. I guess it has gotten bugged. That was the intended way to get to the key at least. I can try to look at it tomorrow to see if I can figure out why it doesn't work.

Developer (1 edit)

Try not being so close to the wall when you pick it up.
Code-wise, there is a collider that checks if anything is blocking placing the object on your head. That box is apparently slightly too big and can collide with the overhang on the wall which prevents you from picking up the key. That is the only thing I manage to replicate here that prevents you from picking it up.

Fantastic polish, maybe not enough gameplay testing with people who haven't been a part of making it. I had a hard time enjoying it with the tiny sphere of visibility, and a weird unhelpful pickup/drop mechanic on unlabelled unusual keys!

Doesn't help that when you're pushing, sometimes it seems to stop for no reason. I found you have to walk away by at least one tile to reset the bug.

I do love that the levels are short and concise.

There's the germ of a great game in there, just needed more playtesting.

Developer

Thanks for playing and commenting! As a solo dev, I only got one early playtester before a lot of this was properly implemented. That would have been smart to get it tested more. The logic for pushing things, picking them up, and dropping them are not working as well as I wanted. There are some finicky issues with them that would have been fixed if I had a bit more time.

The art and presentation are excellent, but, the name is just next level wordplay XD The gameplay and what decides how and when you can pick up items is a bit rough and inconsistent, but, all in all a solid entry. Nice job!

What's the wordplay?

"Dull & Han" = Dullahan, it's a creature from Irish Mythology, a headless horseman if you will, I believe it was considered to be a sort of equivalent of the grim reaper

Submitted

Impressive that you know that! Never heard of it

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and that you enjoyed it! Yeah, there are some lack of polish on those that I would have worked more on if I had more time.

Submitted(+1)

I like your art style! And the game mechanic is easy to understand. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing and commenting!

Really well polished, the art and sfx are great. The choice of buttons for the controls are pretty strange tough, but that might be me. Impressive work for the jam!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the comments! I tried to avoid using the ctrl, alt, and shift keys as comments on previous game jams accidentally closed their windows and such through it, and I tried to avoid the arrow keys as some keyboards don't have them. The options are so you could either play left-handed or right-handed depending on your needs.

Submitted(+1)

Oh, I got it now, I was using keys from both ways (right and left hand), now it makes sense, sorry!

Developer

No worries!

Cool art & Interesting characters!

Developer

Thanks for playing and that you liked it!

Love the art and the characters! The mechanics are solid and interesting too. The control mapping was quite difficult to use. Perhaps you could also more clearly communicate the rules about when you can pick up and put down the head, because in a few places, I couldn't tell whether my approach wasn't working because I was pressing the wrong button, or because of a bug, or because I hadn't solved the puzzle correctly. Overall, though, I liked this a lot. Thanks for letting me play it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Yeah, visual feedback that highlighted when you could pick up and drop things would help a lot. It was on the list of things that didn't get in there on time.
