Really cool that you can stack turrets, it's a really cool idea, but it is not really necessary to use it in practice. Maybe if you could allow the player which direction the stacked on tower shoots, while the 'base' is static could make it more interesting. It's still really fun to get the correct solution to the puzzle, even though I would have to try the same solution multiple times. Cool concept that can be expanded on really nicely, the basics are already there!

Nice game. Cool concept of combining turrets together to save space. But I couldn't get through 4th level.

I finally got it working =) That's a great game! Good job

I found the game to be fun and enjoyable to play though I got stuck on the second level due the towers not hitting blocks. I even watched the walkthrough and placed the blocks in the right space and still did not work. overall it is a good game!

Thanks for playing! There’s an ongoing RNG bug that can cause issues with that unfortunately (should be fixed post-jam)

Combining towers was a good idea that I didn't see in most of TD games, even though I didn't really utilize them much. Wish that combining mechanic had more reason to use, such as firing bullets faster when they're combined. Nice job overall!

Very cool concept and a very fun experience. I like the idea of you aiming the turrets before the enemies come which adds some more strategy to the game. Great work!

Fun:

This was a pretty fun but frustrating experience. I'm a sucker for tower defense games but the biggest issue I had was the inconsistent timing. I could use a solution multiple times and fail, but try one more time and it would work. This is kind of bad since a player technically could have the best solution and feel cheated to find out it was a timing inconsistency of the game. The level designs were still fun though!

Innovation/theme:

The game had a pretty unique system where you could stack towers to make them stronger. However the levels I played didn't utilize this. I feel like better implementation of this would have made a stronger connection to the theme. Overall a tower defense still works for the theme.

Graphics:

The game had a very simplistic design, but that isn't a bad thing. The visuals match the game and are very cohesive all the way through. I think a little variety when it came to level aesthetics would have been nice though.

Audio:

The game had no music, but the game did have SFX and they matched what they were meant to be. The game lacked a bit here, which took away from the "juiciness" of the game.

Game Design:

The game had a lot of potential but there were a few roadblocks. The main complaint was the inconsistent timing of the block movements. So even if the player had a correct working strategy, depending on luck would determine if you beat the level or not. This felt unfair for the player and made them question if their strategies were good or not. The visuals and audio did mix well with the gameplay mechanics though a little more variety to visuals, some music, and juicier sound effects would have been nice to give the game better "game feel".  Overall, it was a fun experience that had some frustrating elements, that I think a little work could easily be remedied.

Thank you for the thorough feedback! I completely agree with everything you said :) I hope to fix most (if not all) of the issues post-jam

Good game, last level was well thought, just like what the other guy said, fix the enemies and thats all

Love the concept! Really enjoyed the puzzle-like tower defense game that requires more strategic thinking. One thing I noticed is that the enemies could perform slightly different each time due to the realtime calculating, and sometimes it would lead to a false result. There was one time, I tried a placement and it couldn't work, so I tried many other ways and still couldn't make it. But finally, I tried my first placement again and I passed the level! I guess the concept of this game is more like solving puzzles than the traditional tower defense game, so it might be better if you can make the game perform a fixed result each time. But still, it couldn't stop me keep trying to solve the puzzle! Love the game! Good job!

Yeah the indeterminism is a really big issue. It turns quite a lot of people off from the game. I plan on fixing that in the post-jam version though. Thanks for the feedback! :)

I think it's a really fun game. I think the idea is unique and cool. My favorite thing is how  you must strategically place each turret on each level so you must think about where you place it adjacent to the track.

You've spoiled us in the lvl 11 :P  Very nice game Mariothedog, it was entertaining,  required some thought and tweaking.. i love the idea and enjoyed playing it! Cheers man :)

Cute little game! I enjoyed figuring out the different levels, I dont think the game fits the theme very well though.

Fun Concept, fast, looks great. I do think that most levels were maybe designed with the main mechanic in mind, but missed the fact that most of them worked easier with the normal towers as a result. Perhaps if you slowed the game down slightly and added a strength to every block. Then upgrading the tower can deal more damage, or fire twice. something to feel like major moment.

The game itself its great! Its a really fun simplistic tower defense, I would even say that is resembles a puzzle game in some way because of the importance of placing towers in good spots. The only issue I have is that the main mechanic, stacking towers, is not that useful. I have passed most of the levels without stacking. Its actually quite the opposite, when I tried stacking towers I failed miserably. Other than that the game idea is pretty fun, so with a little bit of balancing you could actually do something pretty nice! :)

Pretty solid tower defense game. Difficulty scales a bit too fast for me. As some people said on the comments, there are some levels in which stacking towers (the main mechanic here) is not essential, or is not profitable. Feedback for the player is really well done, with sound and with effects, but i would add 1 thing (said on the bullet points below).

Things I would improve:
-Soundtrack that gives a bit more of a dynamic feeling to the game

-When you combine two towers, instead of the normal "placing" sound, another sound, so you know you combined two towers.

-I would make it so a combined tower shoots faster or something, so it feels more rewarding to combine towers.

-Maybe limit where turrets should be placed a bit more, so it gives players a bit more of a restriction and you will be able to "balance" a bit more the game mechanics and levels

Overall a pretty solid game, one of the best ones i've played so far for sure.

GGs!

I’m really surprised nobody else thought of/mentioned this! Thanks for the feedback :) I’ll definitely be adding this in

Yeah, I think that would work a lot better as well. My favorite levels were the ones which had a small number of tiles but were still difficult nonetheless (like 6 and 7)

The simplistic graphics looked really nice and the whole, tower defense timed interval shooting is very fun to try out a sandbox.

There is a nice feel in the hits and the feedback. Also, the sound effects were quite good.  I think a soundtrack would've sealed the entire game, but as it is a jam game, that can be overlooked.

Some points:

  • Put a puzzle soundtrack that is kind of in sync with the turrets shooting and the beat. It will make it 10x better feeling.
  • Add some sort of special combinations of turrets or even special tiles where placed turrets will behave uniquely. This will give us more options to explore.

Overall this is a solid submission for the jam. I enjoyed it very much!

Yeah, I agree! A couple people have actually suggested added a rhythm game aspect to it (different levels different tracks etc) and I’m definitely going to experiment with it post-jam :)
