You are a peanut who collects peanuts that will make you stronger.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I downloaded some free assets, but I did most of the game.

I never thought i wuld saw an idea as original as this. i loved that giant squirrel it was a bit intimidating jeje I strugled to figure out the slide thing but it was enteirteining! Great game!

(Don't forget to check out mine :D)

Developer

Thank you very much! In the post-jam version, the sliding thing is much more explained and for the squirrel..... hmmm It will stay giant xd =)

Pretty difficult but great music and interesting choice of 'main character' for the theme. I agree that the sliding was difficult, but Im sure if I kept playing, it'd get easier to use. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks! I just opened Blender and started modeling. I made a peanut and decided that this was going to be the character xd =)

Your game is very very cool ! Love the music and the graphics ! And loved the peanut theme (maybe because my username contains "Cacahuète" (peanut in French) XD). Also, I've found the sliding mechanic a bit hard to use, but, besides that, congrats for your beautiful game !

Developer

Wow! Merci beaucoup =) C'est cool d'enfin voir quelqu'un qui parle ma langue =) (à moins que ce sois juste ton username). Pour pas prendre de chances -> As you said, the sliding mechanic is difficult to use, but that was my intention. On the other hand, I know that it was really poorly explained and that falling is frustrating because the player is slow. This will be fixed in the post-jam version =) Thanks again!

Il n'y a pas de quoi / You're welcome :) Oui oui je parle bien français pour le coup XD

the graphics are very good, did you made all these art assets in a week?very impressive.

Developer

No unfortunately I downloaded stuff like squirrel and plant textures. But otherwise, yes I did the most =) Thank you!

Ok... definitely one of the most bizarre games I've played in the Jam.
My first run was 44:35... until I figured out the "sliding under the planks" (cause I've read a comment)
That should definitely must be correct if you plan to upgrade the game. The instructions in-game are not clear about that feature.
Also, maybe make it slide always... not only when not bounce on the plank, cause in the middle high planks I miss the jump/slide and had to redo ALL the way up (in the last run, had to do it 3 times) which is really annoying.

Apart from that... the game is fun, bizarre but fun. Very well designed the plank path. Hard sometimes, but well done. The music feels nice at first, but after 45 minutes lost the original mood.
And love the "footstep" sfx with the small pieces of peanut falling... nice touch!

Great job! Congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I really didn't think anyone would spend so much time on my game =) As you mentioned the instructions are not really clear and this is going to be changed as soon as I can switch to another version of the game. For difficulty , I plan to add a quick way to get around to get back to the top (like a checkpoint). Thanks again it's really appreciated!

  • I don’t like the camera movement

  • The music feels too loud

  • Jumping feels too float-y. Perhaps gravity is too low?

  • I don’t know how to explain this but the peanut model looks weird

  • The way the peanuts merge is cool

  • These wooden platforms clip into the ground which looks weird

  • The walking SFX gets repetitive

  • I know it’s intentional but the sliding under platforms feels like a bug and it’s not very intuitive. It’s also quite difficult to pull off sometimes

Developer

Thank you! I agree with everything you said =) Thanks for playing it

The concept and gameplay are great! My only criticism would be that it is a little bit too difficult and there are no checkpoints.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Yeah I really made the difficulty too much hard =)

Submitted

I really like your universe and the graphics of your game but I didn't like the gameplay too much, sorry.

But the game is really beautiful and you did a great job with these peanuts !

Developer

Thanks! Can you tell me more specifically what you didn't like about the gamplay?

Submitted

Some littles things, the sliding technique is too risky I find and when we miss we land at the very bottom and we have to re do all the way and as the peanuts are not very fast it's very long and a little boring :/

Developer

Ok now I see. I admit that the speed is really not high enough. Otherwise for the mechanics I expected it to be difficult, but maybe it was too difficult =)

I like the slide mechanic, although sometimes i found it difficult to connect under the planks (when i had more than 1 peanut). I really appreciate the effort you put on the 3D world and the character modeling! The music, the sound effects, the lighting and the 3D world in general is stunning!! Great submission!

Developer

Thank you!

Not bad, the game is... weirdly fun. There are not many animations in the game and it don't really need it...

Sliding is an interesting mechanism, it would be better if you explained it better.

Developer

Thanks! I already added a better exemple to understand the sliding mecanic, but I can’t edit the game so after the Game Jam :)

I liked the music, it was very peaceful! I didn't understand the first sign about sliding under planks. I wish you could do something more than just jumping. The fact that you're a peanut could lead to all sorts of interesting mechanics.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game! For the sliding mecanic, you have to go forward and jump to touch the ceiling of the planks. If you don't bump on it, you can slide by going in a down angle under the planks. I know it's very not clear but I made it that way because I wanted it to be difficult. It may have be to hard xd. So the game is not just about jumping, you can slide under planks to reach other peanuts =)

Submitted

As far as following the theme goes, it seems like the only thing potentially connecting this game to the theme is that collecting peanuts makes you bigger, but with no additional effects.

And it seems like getting bigger actually plays counter to the sliding mechanic, Which is not only difficult to perform (especially as you get bigger), but poorly explained to the player.

Graphics mesh well together, it doesn't feel like anything is out of place, audio is good as well if a little spartan (but sometimes less is more).

If you can explain the sliding mechanic better I think this game has potential, but for now it's just too frustrating for me.

Developer

Thanks for your honest review! I understand what you are saying about the player, but the goal is to grow taller to reach higher tables. In other words, you have to collect the peanuts otherwise it is impossible to jump higher. As for the gliding mechanics, I was afraid that many would find it difficult to understand and I should have improved it. Thanks again =)

Some cool ideas at play here! The visuals look great, and there's something strangely cute about the peanuts...

I wish that movement speed was a bit faster or there was some sort of sprint control. Sometimes it felt like I was moving forever to get anywhere.

It seems the game is primarily built on the sliding controls which were really interesting but as other have said, often times really finnicky to get working as you want it.

Some of the sounds of the game felt a bit jarring too like the peanut footsteps and not a lot of audio feedback on actions.

I'm a fan of faster paced games, so this is likely just me , but more speed in the game would make this a more enjoyable experience in my book.

Good job overall, good to see a nice looking 3d game in a game jam!

Developer

Thank you very much! As you say the sliding mechanics really need to be improved =) For the speed it's easy to change and it's a good idea and for the sounds hmmm idk I did it at the last minute so. .. Thank you for your comment

Nice ! I liked the sliding feature, that was weird but it opened possibilities. I just wished we could zoom-in/zoom-on the camera ! I had trouble understanding where I was at some point haha

It reminded me games like "I Am Bread" or "I Am Fish", which is a good thing to me. I'd love to see some puzzles !

And the UI was very nice !

Developer

Thank you very much! I was not proud of the camera movement but I didn't have time to improve it. I'm glad you liked it =)

I love how much polish you were able to add within the time constraints! The idea is cool and it's executed well. The sliding mechanic was a little strange and finicky, but the gameplay was mostly solid. I definitely feel like this is a great seed - or nut ;) - of a game that could be developed into something pretty fun. Well done.

Developer

Thanks !!!
