Great game, love it!

Pretty cool entry. The random terrain generation look very awesome! I liked the movement mechanism. It's a little small paced (or at least for me).

I'm a huge fan of strategy games and this was really cool! This is maybe the most feature-rich game I've seen in the jam so far and the fact that you did it without an engine is truly impressive. The only issue I had while playing was the camera constantly snapping to its default position at the start of my turn (I kept having to move it back where I had it when I was deep in enemy territory). Despite that, I had a lot of fun figuring out the mechanics and coming up with elaborate strategies to defeat the AI.

Excellent work!

EDIT: Turns out there was an option to disable automatic camera movement (see the replies), so my complaint is null. Greate job for including so many helpful options, I should've looked first!

Developer(+1)

Thank you alot for the warm response! Automatic camera movement can actually be turned off in the settings menu.

Oops, my bad, I should've looked! It's not common for jam games to include such comprehensive settings, so good job on that too!

I'll keep that in mind when I try the local multiplayer with some friends later

Developer(+1)

No problem, I wouldn’t expect a game to have settings like this either :)

The game board style is really cool. awesome graphics and pleasant sound design. the map procedural generation is really cool. good job!

First of all, my absolute congrats to you for coding everything from scratch without engine.

About the game: took me 2 rounds to fully understand the gameplay. I'm more a RTS guy (only played turn based Civilization 1 back in the 90's) Plus I sent one by one to attack, which leads in 2 consecutive defeats.
But the 3rd match was awesome... I design the strategy of constructing a higher ground for the archers, and while the enemy crossed the bridges, only a few manage to reach my shore. And the once that did found dead by my pikemen and knights.

The fact that randomize the terrain make it re playable several times.

You did a awesome job with this game. Congratulations!

A turn base game with a working map generator and working ai. I would never think this is made in 7 days if this is not a jam. Great job, and fun to play.

I haven’t seen a lot of turnbased games this jam, so this one was very refreshing.

I think the mechanic plays well for this type of game, which could definitely be expanded into a larger one.

Pretty cool idea!

The game was really fun to play and I loved the workings of the randomisation of the map and the AI of the game. Really fun experience.

Ah man, turn-based tactical games are my absolute favourite so this was so great to stumble across! I wish there was a 'technical execution' category for ratings, as I think from a technical stand point, considering the work involved this is one of the most impressive games of the jam. Even more so considering it was made from scratch without the use of any game engines.

I liked the different troop types, the map randomisation was brilliant. I found the fortifications a bit fiddly when trying to place them and move, but the idea to include them and chopping down trees was great. From a design point of view, I think the group attacks were really cool and a great way to implement the theme, although I felt this did heavily favour the defender. Whoever got their archers to the high ground could really put a huge dent into the enemy army.

I found more joy playing on a smaller map than the default, with the single troop movements it took a long time engaging the enemy on the biggest map size. 32x32 worked great though :)

To have created a 3D turn based tactical game from scratch, with the assets created by yourself and to also include randomised map generation and a capable A.I. is remarkable.

Fantastic work, I'd love to be able to make something similar in the not too distant future. Bravo!

Thanks a lot for your warm feedback! I completely agree that the mechanics made large maps hardly playable & defending positions more favorable. Game mechanics are definitely not my best skill :D

Cool game! Love the early 90's aesthetic the graphics gave off. Whether or not you were aiming for that, I thought it was pretty unique and cool. The different densities and types of generated maps were super cool! I think I spent a lot of time just messing around with that. Nice job! A game to be proud of.

This is creative and the ability to choose a map size and have it procedurally generated is impressive and often miss in game jams because most people are focused on the graphics, sounds, and gameplay and they overlook what happens behind the scene. Kudos on that.

Focusing on the gameplay, I already struggle in a game of chess which has a much smaller play area, and having the default map be so huge just felt overwhelming especially since it is not like an RTS where maybe I could select a group of units to move rather than painfully move a single unit at a time. That's really my recommendation, to add a way to speed up gameplay by either reducing the map size or allowing squadron or groups of units to be moved in formations at a time.

This was pretty cool but was waayy too slow. It at least should have been you were able to move all your guys on the same turn. Or you could have started them closer together. Other than the slowness this seems like it could be awesome, the graphics are great and the chopping down trees and building stuff is a cool little twist. The graphics and gameplay reminded me of this 3D 'Advanced Wars' model someone made https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/advance-wars-vg-remix-6973f0bc978543008ec1933695... Could be a source of inspiration

It's great to see another strategy game in the Jam :) check mine out too.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback! Agree that the game turned out to be too slow. Didn’t take inspiration from anywhere, just took random reference pics from the internet & modeled in Blender. With those low-poly models it’s no wonder I made something similar to what others do :) I’ll definitely check yours.

Good strategy game. I like the overall visuals, attack animations, the procedural gen. and the AI.
The one by one gameplay is a little bit slow and the movement sound is too harsh for me.
The game has potential, nice work!

WOW, having a random map generator and even has a really nice gameplay with this amount of time! Incredible! It was a really fun experience to play it :D

Excellent game, super impressive that it was done in a week (less than a week looking at submission time!) nice stuff

Submitted(+1)

This game is amazing! How did you develop this in a week? I like how you can customize the map, play with other people or AI. I thought for sure this is going to be another TABS game but it's not. Good work!

Submitted(+1)

This game is extremely fun, one I would probably just play for fun. It has the polish of a fully released game, I can't really fault it for anything.

This was an absolute BLAST. A short, but easy to understand strategy game. The map randomness and different soldier-types keep things fresh. I think the resource-gathering was a nice touch, and I'd like to see it expanded into different uses. Admittedly, I have only completed one match...

I think the real pride of this is the clean gameplay and solid design. The graphics and audio definitely leave something to be desired, but this was a great experience nonetheless. Great job :)

This was really fun to play. I think it's really impressive that you were able to make this totally from scratch in a week!

Nice work!
