Pretty neat idea and well executed mechanics. Good job!

Played your game, was quite fun :)

Thank you for the lets' play.

Your guys can only attack forward on Y axis. We now realise the maybe we should've clarified that in the tutorial. We also think that we should add horizontal attacks and backwards attacks. (not as a separate action, just an improvement to thie default attack)

You didn't really get to the part where the game REALLY gets out of control, eventually on level 8-11 the enemies get very powerful and they start to outnumber you. It's a shame that you didn't get to that part but I guess you get the point of the game. It has a lot of replay value, so you might want to go for another run after we update it post jam :)

thank you!

Awesome, I will definetly try it out again after the ratings period ;)

When the game said I could right click on things and get more information, I knew it was going to be a good game. It doesn't hold the player's hand, but it makes sure that the player has all of the information that they need to be successful, and I like that a lot. One thing I didn't like was the dice that didn't always do what they said they did, like swapping characters. I get that it adds some rng, but you already have that with the dice roll and the inability to control which characters swap with other characters. For a game about strategy, it felt frustrating when my decisions were meaningless. Other than that though, really great game. I had a lot of fun playing it.

Developer (1 edit)

That's a bug that I was aware of but didn't have time to fix. What is actually happening is, the hero tries to swap places with itself and stays in place, and also, sometimes when 2 heroes swap, the first swaps with the second and than the second swaps with the first... so they stay where they started. When you right click on the dice, it says "Swap all characters... sometimes???". Now it's fixed.

I think all other dice work as the game says. Please let us know if we missed some bugs

Thank you for your review!

Wow that's a pretty much complete experience for a jam game. Really nice, and YES quick and simple tutorials on the beginning :D

A really fun idea that already has a good risk reward system and I could easily sink a lot of time into it already. The only think I think would be useful is more information about what the enemies can do or might do next turn so you can be a bit more strategic. But I would love to see a full version of this game really well done

That game look very nice and I really liked the game ! GG for the game and making it in 48h :O

Brilliant art style and a fun concept! I hope to see it expanded post -jam.  I've seen a few similar ideas so far, but I think this one has the most potential and best presentation. I think all my talking points have already been mentioned, biggest upgrade for me would be a visual telegraphing of attacks.

Great work though, hope to see more from y'all after the jam!

This is a fun game ^^ great job ^^ little confusing when I can click again for the next turn so I just click many times ^^

The game take input if you are not focused on the game too ^^ that is how I missed the intro screen ^^

First of all, thank you for your kind words and your thoughts on the game its highly appreciated. So here I am to return the favor.

I like the fact that you just drew / wrote the tutorial down but still "animated" it. I feel like the animation is a bit fast but on the other hand its on the beat! It's really slick.

The game crashed on me when my archer killed an enemy. It happened around fight 7.

The game felt like a roguelike and reminded me a lot of slay the spire. I like the mechanic with getting more people as you progress, but also being able to loose them. That makes every encounter important and every decision count.

Right clicking to read up what an ability does is important! Without that I would have not understood anything. Which is good and bad. There should be (hard / impossible to do in 48h) some indication for where people will move to, where an attack will hit, etc.

The logic of the dices was only understandable once I read what they do. The controls are meant to feel out of control and that is really cool! I also feel that there is not much that I control with every dice though. Sometimes there been 4 dices that did nothing (for instance no one is in range to attack but I only got attack dices). Which is RNG and also alright, but above that I feel that there could be less dices with more impact. Attack could be linked to the movement dice. Which creates the decision "Do I move everyone forward, which puts someone out of position? If I do that I would also kill someone though". Then I would also be able to kill enemies on my side. At one point an enemy was in my "base". Not sure if you are familiar with shogi, but it felt like shogi at that point. In it most units cant move backwards to much, so I was left with my archer being the only one able to kill him. Which took 5 rolls.

I really like the mechanics in this. I wanted someone to do something like this! Thank you for sharing and letting me see that idea come to live, it was fun to play. Solid game, well done!

Developer

Thanks for the detailed review!

We are aware that the game needs balancing. I mostly know about all of the problems that you mentioned, and we're already patching the game and making it more enjoyable, but we can't update the game's files because It's against the rules.

We planned so much more for this game than we manage put in. All of your points are valid and we already thought about these things already. It's just that when you have to program so many systems at the same time, something will (tee hee) go out of control  :)

turns, 10-20 actions, 6 friendly classes, 6 enemy classes, upgrades, grid interactions... I feel like we packed more thing then we could control.

Damn, that was addictive! My handsome squad and I have gone so far! Well done guys, both the aesthetic and gameplay are on point. This was really fun to play!

Really cute and awesome game! I love the whole artstyle and presentation, very satisfying ;D Great work for 48 hours!

Damn this is a really nice game, first of all I love the intro screen, very clear what you need to do and can do. The pixel art is insane! Love it.

The game itself is very very polished I really like it. If I had to say one thing to improve the game even more is that maybe you need to add more player feedback, I often selected the sword but nothing happened at all, maybe like some sound effects if you use an action that can't be execute.

Also easily 5 star rating! Really enjoyed it, and probably will play it again later today :) Wanna see all pixel art you guys made! (sucker for that HAHA)

Developer

Thank you for the kind words :)

The game will get a bug fix update as soon as the jam will be over. We also want to clarify how exactly attacks work. You have to be on the same Y axis with the enemy and only some characters can do standart attacks.

Thank you for the feedback.

Submitted

Yeah figured that out after a couple of failed attacks :D Gonna add it to the collection, wanna play the updated version :) Our game will also get a bug fix after the jam :')

Wow , I played this game for longer than expected . I really enjoyed it . Great Job :D

This is really good. I love the character sprites. Got to level seven on my first try before all of my guys died when I clicked the purple eye die... Not sure what that one did cause I didn't realize I could right click dice. Then tried again but my game crashed at some point when I told my archer to shoot someone.

But I really enjoy this. Will probably come back to it later and try again to see all the different units there are.

Developer

Thanks. A lot of people say that the game crashes sometimes. I'm trying to find ther reason of this bug and it will be fixed post jam. Thank you for understanding

very good, zaebis !

Really enjoyed this game and played it for longer than I thought I would. Good job on the mechanics and art style, rolling dice is always fun! The right click for explanation was a good feature and really helpful. At some point it randomly crashed though.

Really really fun game!
The tutorial didn't appear the first time I loaded the game, that might be a bug.
But once I understood how everything worked, I had a blast!
It's a really fun game, and despite the random and unpredictable elements, it has a strong sense of strategy.
Fantastic work!!

Kudos to your artist! The visuals really helped sell the fun tone of the game. Aside from never knowing which directions the character were going to move based on the dice (I remembered too late that you could right click for more info), the gameplay was pretty straight forward and easy to grasp!
