This was a pretty interesting game and I had actual fun playing it. It would be a great submission for any other jam but like some other commenters noted I can’t see how it relates to gain ground and the UI and sounds were lacking. A nitpick was that aiming and moving are tied together to it was difficult to fire from afar. I know it’s a difficult thing since people complained about the same for my first round submission :)

Developer

Thank you! I'm very glad that you had fun with the game )

Regarding recreation:

1. top-down perspective

2. level within one screen

3. rescue of "hostages"

4. rescued hostages have new abilities

5. after rescuing hostages you need to follow to the exit to finish the game

6. the game tracks how many hostages were rescued

I thought that was enough )))

My biggest change was that abilities are given instantly upon saving. And the control method - all my previous jam games were controlled exclusively with a mouse, I decided to keep the trend)

The thing is, I initially made the game as similar to the original as possible, but the idea didn't motivate me at all. I wanted to change something. So I started making this version two days before the deadline. Of course, the game is raw, but it was worth it.

That a nice spin on the topic. Unfortunetly you didnt add any sounds :/ The game was fun to play, i wish there were more levels, it was also nice that you could loose the worms again :) Didnt expect one worm to get eaten by the mole, oops :D Good Job!

Developer

Thanks ) Wished that too! My classic mistake

The art was really cute. I like the take on gain ground as having different segments with abilities instead of different characters. In terms of polish it was definitely lacking but impressive for such a limited amount of time. I really wish there was audio but it was still fun without it. The UI is really simple but I think that works in it's favor. Overall it was fun, very impressive for 15 hours!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot )

Glad that you had fun.

Made in 15 hours is impressive! It was fun and the artstyle was great. In terms of feedback:

Fun: yes for some reason it made me think of a golfcourse made it kinda puzzle like for me

core elements: some elements I did miss just a simple kill all enemies advance wouldve done wonders but I do feel like it counts as a recreate

Polished: Its good, i did encounter some minor bugs like body parts getting stuck or already being killed without even being picked up, but besides that movement and controls were good

Sound fx: really sad you didnt do anything for this :/

UI: its great, simple yet effective

Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the clear, structured feedback!

Core elements: I wanted to leave levels where you can't shoot, so kill all enemies won't work

Loved this game so much. Just the worm and its parts were great. Some audio would have made it even better.

Developer(+1)

Thank you ! You too kind)

Oh, audio, it will kick me out of round, won't it? )

Submitted(+1)

I hope not. This is going to be a tough round, I don't think anyone should be confident of making it.

Awesome work. Sad there wasn't any audio to speak of, but the game was very fun. I enjoyed the unique interpretation of the Gain Ground. The art was really cute, but then again, I'm a sucker for simplicity in art. The game could have benefitted from a bit more polish but I'll give you pass because 15 hours is really not a long time to make a game like this.

Kudos, great work, I hope to see you again in round 4!

Developer

Thanks! Glad that you enjoyed the game!

Though I'm not hoping to make it through this round )

It's incredible to me that you did this in 15 hours. I would love to see what this would have looked like with the full two weeks! As it is, this is fun and unique!

Developer(+1)

For a week I was making a more basic remake with almost identical gameplay to Gain Ground. But was unsatisfied with the result. It was just unfun. And two days before the deadline, I started this game. It was hard, but it's better this way.

Thanks for playing )

I saved 17 worms :D

Definitely feels unfinished but that's understandable for a 15 hour game. You did great! I like how tactical it can get with getting the right pieces while baiting the enemies to the right spot. Good job :D

Developer

17! It's like... almost all of them!  All? I don't know how many worms are part of my own game.)

for 15 hrs I can blame only myself - starting from scratch 2 days before deadline was not a good idea

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game. I liked how you introduced the game mechanics and the different levels were well thought out. The arrow also made it clear where to go and the game felt very intuitive. The cannon worm ability was great fun and even the slow one was kinda funny to have in and added to the strategy. It's good how the enemies can be lured into positions. Music and sound FX was missing but you know that already, a full screen button could be a nice addition and some text to say left click to shoot (but it is explained in the description page so its not a big issue)

Developer(+1)

17! You did great! Thank you for playing )

I saved 9 worms :P

This short game has such fun mechanics - it’s incredibly engaging!

I absolutely loved how you incorporated the core elements of the original: different worm parts granting different abilities, and the need to collect these parts to gain those abilities. It’s such a clever idea and really cool! Expanding on this concept in the future could add a lot of puzzle-solving value, which would be amazing.

At first, I didn’t even realize you could use the cannon, but as the levels progressed, it became clear how essential it is 😃.

The game has such a cozy vibe, and I wish there was some music to complement it -it would enhance the atmosphere even further..

Developer

Oh!  Thank you for the video! It's always interesting to watch how your game is played.

True pacifist mode! xDDD You almost made it; I don't even realize it was possible.

I thought the game was really fun, a good twist on Gain Grounds mechanics. I thought the game itself was really fun to play, I think you did a fantastic job in those terms. You know a game is fun to play when there is no audio and it still feels engaging. I think there's plenty of meat to the concept itself, just a shame about the audio really. Still, considering you spent only 15 hours and you managed to make a fun game with no audio is very impressive to me. Good job man!

Developer

Thank you, and sorry about the audio.

For 15 hours, I can only blame myself—it was a great idea to start doing the game from scratch a couple of days before the deadline.

Glad that you had fun.

Very cute game! And a really unique concept!

I like the added challenge of having to keep your hind ends from harm on top of everything else, though a bit too challenging for me haha

Developer(+1)

Yeah!  That was the idea!

Sad, that game was hard for you—I don't spend much time on level design. Sorry, I mean "level design." A couple of minutes before the deadline and 1 test for every level.

I hope you had some fun.

Creative take on the recreation. Love the art style and the gameplay feels smooth. It is a shame it didn't have audio. Still, the game feels fun, great job!

Developer

oh, thank you! I'm very glad that you had fun )

Very cool concept. I managed to rescue 14 worms 😁
I'm a bit worried about there being no audio, that might bring your score down for the pairing

I think this is a very original take on gain ground! 🌟

Developer(+1)

14 worms!  Not bad!

About audio—sad but true. I'm glad that you had fun.

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed the concept! If you could "rescue" blacked out pieces at after a cooldown it would've been even closer to the Gain Ground.

Did you experiment with having the canon ball shoot out of the cannon body? I think it would've made it more unique and make having two canon bodies a bigger bonus. (these controls would probably make it harder though, so understandable to keep it simple.)

It's really sad that it doesn't have any audio, otherwise it was great!

Developer

Thank you!

Oh no, I'm certainly not experimented with anything—different types of bodies appeared in game 1.5 hours before the deadline. Actually, I'm surprised that it plays well. Your ideas sound fun, though!

Sadly, no time for audio at all (
