I think I got it from here: https://opengameart.org/content/action-track. At least the user was "3uhox". Honestly, opengameart.org is down so it's not possible to check it correctly, right now.

I actually really like this game! Super fun, super sneaky, 5 stars across the board save for simplicity which is 4 (I don't even understand that rating tbh. Maybe just brought it down because of possible convoluted reasons as to why we might be knocking out robbers but also killing hostages lol). Great crunch.

The only thing I would change is the mouse controls, left to shoot and right to roll, but man, this is probably the best game I've played so far from this jam. Everything was so awesome, the graphics, the sound, the way it really fit the theme. Very impressive that this was made in 3 days. Great job.

perhaps this game was designed for a left hand person  in a first place? :)

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

No, I actually wrote the instructions wrong.

It's as Seyloj said:

  • Left-Click to shoot
  • Right-Click to roll

I'm surprised it took two days for someone to notice it.

Edit: or maybe many people noticed it and just decided to ignore it. I don't know.

Developer(+1)

Oh my god... I'm an idiot.

The controls are actually what you said you wanted them to be:

  • Left-Click: Shoot
  • Right-Click: Roll

Which was what I intended.

But I wrote the instructions wrong.

Well, it's too late to change it now.

Thanks for noting it. And I'm glad you liked it!

Very nice game. It is a bit brutal though :D But I loved it. I failed only once and still the beginning text was too annoying. Very good controls and idea.
Now the police can go in since they don't have to worry about the hostages. Nice :D

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

Not an easy game (I killed a lot of robbers ;) ), but it was a fun game to play!

Fun art style and the controls were smooth and sound effects nice.

Maybe 1 tip, if you lose for the 10th time  because of killing a robber (I did :P), the intro text takes some time before you can try again. An option to skip that would be handy.

Overall well done and I enjoyed it.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, that's true and a common complaint.

Thanks for playing!

The idea of not allowing to kill enemies and making something else to kill the objective is so cool! Awesome!

Developer

Thanks!

Okay... ;D ehm brutal!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

You got two features: hostage, robber. You inverse it. Boom! A polished game. The controls are smooth and the hitting sound is satisfying. Hope there is a medkit to head the player, also adding a timer will be great so that players will try to speedrun your game.

Developer

Thanks!

this, this is yes. It's a great switch of a concept and just backwords. The only thing that I would want that isn't there is more levels, please make more.

Edit: allso a speedrun timer

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

Cool game, the controls are very responsive which is good for this kind of games, I also like the artstyle and sound effects. I think you could have added an explanation as to why you are killing the hostages. Also it would be better to start the level with an easy area and then make it progressively harder, as it is now it seems the starting room is the hardest.

Developer

Thanks!

Honestly, I originally thought of an explanation for the game that was like "The bank robbers have hostages so we can't attack them. Kill their hostages so they lose their clout" or something along those lines. However, due to lack of time i simply stated "You have to kill the hostages and spare the bank robbers" to make it easy.

Regarding the beginning: yes, it's true it's the hardest area. I should have thought it better.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Police: We can't go in, they have hostages inside.

Player: (Goes and kills hostages)

Police: Um dude that's not what we meant...

What a cruel sadistic game. But you know what? I had fun, and that is what mattered. :D

Combat art and sounds were nice and juicey, but I think it only meets the criteria of the topic at the surface level.

Developer (1 edit)

Hahaha, that's exactly the story idea I had in mind to explain why you had to kill the hostages.

In the end, I couldn't put any backstory and I prioritized the theme.

Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I liked the aesthetic and idea, not sure why I was meant to kill the hostages and the robbers were shooting at me but it was fun anyway.

Developer

Oh, it was a twist on the game jam theme of "Let's mess with the concepts of winning and losing".

In a hostage situation the objective would be to save the hostages and eliminate the bank robbers.

I reversed it, and the objective was to do the opposite: spare the bank robbers and kill the hostages.

Thanks for playing it and giving your feedback!

Submitted

Veri nice game! Great idea! It was a bit difficult for me, but I like it!

Submitted

This was great! The art was funky and the reversal was interesting, kindof messed up actually haha. The music made me imagine I was the joker if he was batman coming in and helping the robbers. The biggest issue I had was with the colliders being too big which snagged me a bunch especially in the first room. Maybe make all colliders circular and/or reduce them in size so that the movement feels better.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the big colliders were one of the things that bothered me the most while playtesting.

But I had to focus on other matters and I was running out of time.

Anyway, thanks for playing and for the feedback!

Submitted

This game has a lot of potential! The art is really nice and the movement is responsive. I really like the concept and had a lot of fun playing the game. Great job!

Developer

Thanks! :D

Submitted

This is great! I could totally see this becoming a hit with speedrunners! My only complaint is that the roll doesn't let you dodge bullets when it feels like it should, but maybe I'm just bad lol. Either way, awesome game!

And I'd really appreciate it if you gave my entry a try!

Developer

No, no, you're actually right. The roll doesn't actually prevent you from getting hit by the bullets.

I honestly used it more for quickly dodging bullets from afar and to move faster across the level.

But it's a valid mechanic anyway. It's pretty standard for Enter the Gungeon. Although I was more inspired from Nuclear Throne in the game (but to be honest, the pace in that game was so fast that I never realized if rolling worked for dodging).

Anyway, thanks for playing and for the feedback!

I'll be sure to check your game out!

Submitted

Cool game, movement feels good, rolling feels good. It's a nice concept even tho I feel not good killing hostages.

2 things you can improve imo:

- When reseting the game, don't make the player wait for the same 7 seconds cutscene. It's small but slowing the pace down. You want to keep the player in the flow state. Same thing about death.

- Increase the bullet speed. They are almost the player's speed. Feels slow.

Enjoyed it. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Hi, I'm glad you liked it!

  • Yeah, I know. I still find it weird that I just got used to the waiting while testing it, instead of wanting to skip it.
    • But yeah, it's a useless waiting time.
  • Regarding the speed, I don't know how I should handle it, to be honest. Mainly because I haven't tested the alternatives either.
    • I don't know if it's to fast they would be harder to dodge. I'd have to test it.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Super chaotic and fun. Love the art style, and the controls feel good. Pretty annoying that the text popup shows up every time. Might be a good idea to either speed it up or just show it once. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the popup is something to be fixed, honestly.

Thanks for playing and for your feedback!

Submitted

this was fun to play.  next time the text at the beginning should only be shown once, not every time, other than that, great job!

Developer

Yeah, you're probably right.

That, or having the option to skip it.

Anyway, thanks for playing!

Submitted

Awesome game! I just wish there were more levels T_T Honestly, I would sit here and play more of this if you made more levels it was honestly that fun and enjoyable! Nice work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words!
