Description
There's no specific genre, but there's always orchestral and 8-bit elements throughout the tracks.

Track representations:

- Duality: This song is the overture of the album. This can be the trailer song or played at the very beginning.

- Dangerous Puzzles: This song is an example for level songs. It is how the overall musical atmosphere should sound like. (track can be looped)

- Too High: The mountaineers (they're explained on the game page) encounter a very difficult challenge, but they persist through it. (track can be looped)

- Last Stretch: The players arrived to the last levels of the game. (track can be looped)

- At The Top: Pretty self-explanatory. They arrive at the top of the mountains.

Message from the artist:
I loved making the tracks and hope everyone enjoys it! (psst, turn the volume up, trust me it's better this way)

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The duality of the two mountains, paths and flowers inspired me and influenced the soundtrack writing. Everything about the imaginary game is explained in detail on the game page!

very nice. I like "at the top" most. really fits the loneliness and atmosphere when sitting on the top of a mountain.

Last Stretch rocks so hard! I really like the feeling of "crucial moment" the Too high track gave me, it reminded me to Celeste. Very good job

Developer

Celeste is one of my biggest inspirations to game dev and ost composing. Your comment makes me very happy ^^

Thanks!!

This is a great OST. I love the blend of accoustic and synth instruments in this, it reminds me of the soundtrack to Celeste. There's some really great dynamics in the tracks as well, favourite track is Duality. I really like the how it transitions from the chill ambient sounds start, into that middle section that really sells you on the promise of adventure

Developer(+1)

I feel honored to know that it reminds you of Celeste!!

TYSM! <3

Great OST! I think Duality is one of my favorite tracks on this jam. Also love 2nd a lot. Very pleased with dynamic development in 1st and last tracks. Every tracks feels different and provides its own beautiful soundscape, but the whole thing is coherent.

In the first track, after dynamic rise, piano sounds a bit too biting under compressor. Maybe it's intentional, but it kinda scratched the ear.

Also it seemed to me that lead in the 3rd track is a bit too loud.

Nice job overall!

Developer

Yeah, I also thought the same thing about the piano but I couldn't fix it lol, everything was so loud that this was the only thing keeping the piano more highlighted on the mix.

I didn't feel that the synth was too loud on the 3rd track but I get your point.

Thanks for the comment! <3

Wow. I try to go in with average expectations and this blew those expectations by a lot. So much talent and creativity. My favourite part was in Too High when there where little moments the music just stops and adds to the feeling of intensity in the song. Brilliant.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words ^^

Great OST! I like combination of chiptune and classic piano, especially in 2nd track (Dangerous Puzzles), that jazzy beat with piano melody sounds great with 8bit contra-sound.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, although this track differs a lot from the others, It's probably my favorite one because of this combination.

Thanks for the comment! <3

This is so good! I love that crescendo in the first track

Developer

Thanks man!

Really nice piece of work! It sounds well balanced while keeping the listener engaged and perfectly fits the game concept. Special mentions to orchestration and harmony even though you really nailed each aspect of it!

Developer

Thank you! I appreciate that <3

The concept of duality is perfectly realized, both in the instrumental choice (orchestral vs 8bit), as in the harmonic colors (oscillation between major and minor) and the orchestral impact (light minimalist vs heavy full orchestra). The pieces are all quite different, but give a general unity through this duality chosen and assumed. The sounds complement each other, enrich each other and bring colors that none of the styles alone could have achieved. Nice surprises in some harmonic changes. The whole is particularly well written, rich, original, with particularly successful electro sounds. The arrival of bass in the tracks is always an happiness of deepness, artfully increasing the field of the sound spectrum. The complete OST would perfectly illustrate a Broken Age like adventure game, all smooth, and discreet complexity.

Developer

I appreciate the well thought comment <3

Thanks for taking your time! ^^

Absolutely love the harmonies in these tracks! Particularly in the final sections of Duality and Last Stretch! It's the type of non-standard chord structure I always try to strive towards with my music. Really enjoyed these tracks and the atmosphere they provide! Awesome work! <3

Developer

Thanks mate!

I'm glad you enjoyed them <3

I like it how every track has different vibe! Also I like mix of 8-bit music with orchestral. Good job ♥

Developer

Thank youu!! :)

Fantastic job! I love your interpretation of the theme image. Your mix of chiptune with modern/orchestral sounds works really well and the soundtrack is very varied, eclectic and emotional. Each track is very enjoyable and makes me willing to play this game (wish I could :D ).

Developer

Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed ^^

I really love how dynamic Duality is, starting very softly and building to such an intense climax. Super emotive, great job!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I really tried to emphasize the crescendo. Glad you liked it <3

Wow, these are great! I really like the juxtaposition of the orchestral and 8-bit instrumentation. It's makes sense conceptually but it also sounds really cool in a way that is pleasing to my ears. Granted I haven't listened to a lot of entries yet, but this approach to the theme seems well thought out and creative and I liked reading your ideas about the imaginary game.

Also interesting how your main theme (DCBA was it?) is a descending motif when your whole soundtrack is about climbing a mountain, but there was enough ascending musical material throughout that my analytical brain wasn't too conflicted about this discovery. :) (In my mountain theme I was extremely on the nose with continually ascending scales, not subtle at all.)

Dangerous Puzzles didn't seem to fit with the rest of the tracks somehow. I feel like it's supposed to relate to the other songs but it's just not hitting me. Like I feel like I'm suddenly off the mountain and in a jazz club? Maybe could use more strings haha. Anyway these are my impressions. Great work!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you sooo much for the 3-paragraph comment (or should I say review haha)!

Hmm, after you saying that about Dangerous Puzzles I can't help but agree with you, I imagined that the game would have a consistent visual art style, but I didn't think much about the consistency of the musical content. I guess I wasn't fully committed to the orchestration.

Love your work, such a great entry. I really liked the coherence of the duality theme in instruments, game pitch and track descriptions, it works really well

Developer

Thank you for positive feedback <3
