Description
Gritty mix of electronic and orchestral.

A small town of faithful townsfolk have their memories stolen by the Magician. The gods they pray to aren't happy about this and send down the main character, a lesser god, to help the townsfolk get their memories back from the Magician.

Intro Cutscene: https://soundcloud.com/twitchywhalez-247822379/intro-cutscene-town-of-the-forgot... Introductory cutscene. Shows a beam of light coming down from the sky along with the main character, the towns folk witnessing the event, the Magician appearing to investigate who the main character exactly is, and then leaving.

Knight's Area Theme: https://soundcloud.com/twitchywhalez-247822379/knights-area-theme The theme for the Knight's area, a hall of sand.

Magician's Area Theme: https://soundcloud.com/twitchywhalez-247822379/magicians-area-theme-town-of-the-... The Theme for the Magician's area, a sewer.

The Knight's Theme: https://soundcloud.com/twitchywhalez-247822379/the-knights-theme-town-of-the-for... Boss fight theme for the Knight

The Magician's Theme: https://soundcloud.com/twitchywhalez-247822379/the-magicians-theme-town-of-the-f... Boss fight theme for the Magician, who is intended to be the final boss.

Message from the artist:
I had fun making this and will likely be posting more of the "soundtrack" in the future on my Soundcloud.

Theme

a journey to remember.

How does it fit the theme?
The story is about you helping a town get their memories back, the Magician's theme has some parts of his theme play in reverse and stutter because of his ability to take away and toy with memories.

Phenomenal sound design and creativity. Awesome game design concept. Magician's Theme is a masterwork. I hear a bit of one my artists here (Trent Reznor). I would love to learn about some of the tools/instruments you used for this track. A+!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you! I would love to get into some of the tools and instruments I used.

For the synths, textures, and basses I created my own sounds using vital, a synth that I have been using almost nonstop since it’s release (in November I think?).

I used some live recorded cello for some drones, crescendos, and risers. The cello is most audible in the Intro Cutscene and the Knight’s Theme, I originally planned on having the cello be more prominent but due to lack of time in the jam and time to meet with the cellist it wasn’t used as much as I hoped.

For the orchestral  bits I used orchestral tools’ “crucible” for the organ, as well as their string section “helix”. I also used spitfire audio’s monochord as a drone in the Magician’s Area Theme and a little bit towards the end in the Knight’s Area Theme. And Ferrum for percussion.

For the FX the plugins I used the most were, Audiothings’ things - motor and things - texture, Soundspot’s ravage, Logic’s built in bitcrusher, Valhalla supermassive, vital’s built in FX (distortion, reverb, and flanger specifically), and Ozone for mixing.

Thank you for sharing! I have Vital (the free version) but have only poked around with it. I might have to get back into it. Supermassive is fantastic, as is Ozone. Great job, you really got a lot of your toys :). PS I'm surprised you didn't rank higher :|

This is is SICK! Awesome job. Your music reminded me to Rory Bjorkman's Sci-Fi Fantasy armor knight artwork, check it out https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Qc5mJDS6D/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet (Idk why the link doesn't work if you click on it, plz copy and paste it)

I love the dark and glitchy sounds of the synths, a lot of feedback and flanger like sounds. It's a very unique soundtrack specially for this type of game. I would love to see this is a full developed game.

I'm not very experienced in Electronic music, so I can't give you any useful feedback other than you rock! The magician's theme gave me glimpses of King Allant's theme in Demon's Souls (I actually imagine this game like a distopic Sci-Fi fantasty Souls like). Amazing work

Thank you, I’m really glad you liked it!

The knight artwork by Rory Bjorkman is dope, I might check out some more of his stuff

I also hope that I can work on a game with this style of soundtrack, maybe one day haha

Demon Souls and Dark Souls are some of my favorite games, I think they were subconsciously big influences for the boss themes, I also took inspiration from the game Blasphemous for mainly just the area themes. Thank you for commenting!

Immediately sold on these buzzy bass synths. They set up such a cool energy, and the awesome (tho perhaps slightly too loud) glitchy effects really sell the “intro cutscene” feeling, where something really goes amiss just before you drop the main character into the fray.

I love the way the percussion hits in “The Knight’s Theme” after three tracks without much rhythmic support – the whole thing gets really crunchy and intense, which feels even moreso because of how sparse and ambient the previous tracks were.

Love the echoes of neo-classicality in The Magician’s Theme. The stutter effects are a cool idea, but I think they might have worked better if they were applied only to the synths/strings overtop of a more predictable drum groove, to give a sort of “chopped” effect.

Really cool stuff!

Thank you for the feedback!

Such a unique style- but it works really well in my opinion. The electronic thing you've got is awesome!

Greate music! Very atmospheric.
P.S. It's free for use in game development?

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I think I’d rather keep the music unique to the game jam, but thanks for asking!

really appreciated how different this entry sounded.

very nice. I like the fact you dare to step away from the expected and used reverse-stutter to tell a story.

Took the theme into a whole new area, dark and foreboding, equally unforgettable. Thanks for sharing!

Wow. Just... wow.

Very creative, great composition and amazing sound design. This entry certainly differs apart from the others, obviously in a good way.

im really digging it, super dark, cheers

And there it is! The complete OST in pure electro. I wondered if there would be one. A heavy, dark atmosphere, intensified by the depth of the bass and percussions, especially with these melodic outfits from Nolan's films. The journey is strong, hard, offers little hope, but deserves to exist as a last fight of the half-light against the total darkness. Bewitching every second.

Absolutely love your naming conventions! bababababajabababab really spoke to me! x)
Jokes aside, holy s*** the ending to both the Knight's and Magician's themes are phenomenal! So much creativity In these pieces. Really enjoyed this album! Great work! <3

F*** yeah sound design OST.  Big fan of this style. All I'll say is be careful when working with so much distortion, it can be hard to know whats too loud. I see you got Ozone 9 for the mastering so thats sweeet, I would just add some more compression to each individual channel and maybe even put the SFX tracks into a "Summing Track Stack" and glue compress all of them together. (mind you, this usually removes a lot of dynamics from the overall mix but makes distortion less harsh on the ears.)

ps. My friend, you need that SoundToys bundle. You will fall in love.

Thank you for the feedback! I’ll give the SoundToys bundle a look

Wow, it's "aggressive" and completely different from the other soundtracks, but it's really interesting :) Something unusual! Heavy music but mixed with...ambient? Cool, good job!

The production on this is insane, loved the heavy electronic elements!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I put a lot of effort into the sound design so I'm glad to know that people are enjoying it
