Sorry, but I just suck at this game. The concept is interesting though. However, my biggest complaint - how does it fit this Jam? Are Blubs supposed to be frogs?

Developer

yeah, I built the blubs to be loosely inspired by frogs, the only hop to move around using actual physics joints.

And no need to be sorry for that, that's on me if you were struggling.   Any specific things that were confusing/too hard?  The game is in active development so I'll try to improve it based on feedback as much as I can

Actually 10/10

Developer(+1)

Wow I am truly graced with such a reception, finally found a person who is about this mish mash of weirdness hahaha.

Thanks a ton for that really sweet comment u left on the game page as well, warmed my frigid heart!

I like this game

Raising my pet and fighting to protect them reminds me of the flash game of breeding fishs.

I'm looking forward to updating this game

Developer

Glad you liked it!

Do you know of the flash game you're talking about?  I was inspired by insaniquarium, a game a played when i was just a wee lil tike:

Insaniquarium Deluxe on Steam (steampowered.com)
Is this the one ur talking about?

I'll be updating it regularly, so follow if you'd like to stay tuned :)

Submitted(+1)

It was a little hard to aim. But It's good generally!

Developer

Honestly you're right that the aim is janky.  I need to work on improving it first chance I get.

Thanks for checking it out though, means the world to me

This was great!! Really impressive -especially for the short amount of time!! Fun and creative -great art/graphics too!! Very polished!  Awesome work!! :D

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks a lot!  Glad I could impress the likes of you, ur game is awesome!

Submitted

Awww shucks -thanks dude! xD

Submitted(+1)

It is not my type of game. However, the movement is nicely smooth, the objects are well designed, especially the environment (seems like you inspired yourself in some central American temple rooms, and I really like the environment), and the sounds were very ok. It was good to see a change in the environment (for 3D).

Also, not sure how, but by clicking Esc and running the mouse around (I think around the machine), I made the all room turn upside down and the controls invert themselves. Is that programmed or a glitch?

Developer

Haha some people have found that glitch, I just didn't clamp the head rotation so you can technically, at any point, flip your head 180 degrees and invert the world in that way.  You basically just snapped ur own neck.

Too bad it's not really ur game but thanks for the honesty, I'd rather make something polarizing than too general I think.  As for the environment, if you ever get up to making 3D games, its from an asset pack called eldorado.  I only made the weapons, blubs, vendor, pipes & UI myself.

Submitted(+1)

Dude, sick game! Very fun.

Developer

Glad I could create some fun :D

Submitted(+1)

cool game I liked the sounds and yep this is the second hatch the egg game I play but, both feel very different and have cool concepts to differ apart.

Developer(+1)

Oh cool, which one was the first?  I think I found one on here with a guy hatching eggs on an island?

Submitted

yep that one XD with the furry creatures

Submitted(+1)

Great job.
Movement of this little bastard is amazing :D

Developer

Ya they are my precious lil bastards, they move using their jaw lmao

Submitted(+1)

very well polished great work and thanks for stop by the stream to talk about this game with me

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the game, the pleasure was all mine to create & watch you try it out.

Thanks as well for the help in identifying some crucial issues that I could address immediately, and playing for such a long time.  Was a treat and a half!

Submitted(+1)

Cool concept, kind of a lot of info to take in starting but you get the hang of it quickly.
Felt a bit bad when my babies were being shot at and I couldn't land shots tho :'(

Developer

Haha hopefully having a way to adjust sensitivity for your mouse would help that?

Blub Guardian - Now with Basic Ease-of-Use Options! - BLUB GUARDIAN by Soltar (itch.io)

I am a lil worried that people that are really into pet sims would feel very bad when their loved pets have blood pouring out of them lol, prob need to make that less terrifying but i worry it would lose the impact it has.

Submitted(+1)

Looked really good, mouse was way too sensitive and made it very hard to aim at anything and I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing? i dropped an apple by the blub, but it didn't seem to want it even though it's health was below half? Also when i bought things from the vendor it stopped me using my mouse in game till i clicked again which was a little annoying. Really nice otherwise though, could be a fun little shooter!

Developer

Hey, glad you liked how it looked.  I downloaded the asset pack called Eldorado on the Unity asset store, awesome free asset pack.

As for the issues with the aiming, I updated it so you should be able to adjust that: Blub Guardian - Now with Basic Ease-of-Use Options! - BLUB GUARDIAN by Soltar (itch.io)

Let me know if that helps.

The Blub won't eat unless it's hungry, which is defined by the hunger meter, you can put it to sleep if you want that to happen.

Idk if you read it, but there is a more comprehensive description of the mechanics if you scroll down on the game page.

Really appreciate you taking the time to play it :)

Totally understandable, if you scroll down in the game page there is a more thorough explanation of the mechanics, maybe that would've helped?  Obviously i'd rather have a tutorial of sorts but I had no time left :(

Submitted(+1)

To us, a nice overall experience. Really could use some upgrades in terms of speed ;-)

Developer

Really glad you thought so, whatever features you would've liked I'm open to implementing.
Maybe I'll add a type of fruit that gives you or the blubs increase in the speed stat??

Submitted(+1)

I like this game man.. But I am a vertical invert shooter…. Please let me know if you add that so I can play it… Like the idea though :)

Developer(+1)

Added the option for you :) Blub Guardian - Now with Basic Ease-of-Use Options! - BLUB GUARDIAN by Soltar (itch.io)

Hopefully that makes it easier to play, you can also adjust sensitivity like this :D

Submitted

Played it finally…. Nice game… Along with shooting, the feeding blub and vending machine ideas are good… Wish it was a little more fast paced… But overall nice work :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out, glad you liked it.  I'll try to increase the pace in upcoming revisions of this once the jam is over :)

Prob need a big redesign of certain elements anyway

Submitted(+1)

Fun 3d game, i like the sound effects lmao. The sensitivity was a little hard to control tho, if there was a slider that would be epic! Check out my game too if u could hehe.

Developer

Your wish has been granted: Blub Guardian - Now with Basic Ease-of-Use Options! - BLUB GUARDIAN by Soltar (itch.io)

If that helps your experience, would appreciate an update :) Trying to tune it to be perfect without having to touch that option rn, it apparently only is that sensitive in web builds

Submitted(+1)

Cool 3D game! Nice graphics, good sound. Excellent implementation!

Developer

Thanks a lot, glad you liked the way i put it together!

Submitted(+1)

I like the concept a lot, reminds of Slime Rancher in a lot of ways. Really love the unique and variable pets you can hatch. Gameplay feels a little slow for me, I think. And the HUD effect is cool - but it can sometimes be a little difficult to look at, it might be a motion blur thing? It’s hard to pin down. Overall, very cute game with a lot of potential.

Developer(+1)

Really glad that you liked it, I definitely was thinking of Slime Rancher when i was building out the gun!

But yeah the main inspiration would be Wobbledogs, so if you like that aspect, this game really excels at that experience i think.

As for the issues with motion blur and whatnot, maybe its the fact that the HUD is 3D and lags behind?  I did recently add settings to the game though if that helps, and adjusted the default mouse to not be so sensitive (it's mainly to do with WebGL apparently?)

Blub Guardian - Now with Basic Ease-of-Use Options! - BLUB GUARDIAN by Soltar (itch.io)

Anyways thanks a lot for the response, appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

Good Concept, but the controls and view are hard to use and sometimes nauseating.

Developer

Thanks for playing! glad you liked the concept.

Is there anything I can do for you to make it less nauseating?  I haven't had this feedback, idk if this is a specific problem to the game or just that you don't play FPS'?

Developer

Hey just letting you know that I added ease-of-use options in the game you can check out here:
Blub Guardian - Now with Basic Ease-of-Use Options! - BLUB GUARDIAN by Soltar (itch.io)

Hopefully that helps.

Submitted(+1)

Nice little managing game, I do find myself a bit torn between being a farmer and fighter. I think the environment is aesthetically pleasing but feel like it's not a good place to raise my young ones, Maybe something to add to the feeling it's a breedingground.

Developer

I was hoping to marry the two concepts together in a way similar to Insaniquarium if you're ever tried it.

Any ideas on how to marry it any better?

Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Is it the 2d game? I haven't played it but took a look at it. I think the main difference is that you can easily overlook every action  as the focus never shift completly away from your critters. So maybe limit the directon of attacks and/or give the critters a restricted area to move in(can also be expanded on as the colony grows).

Developer

Yeah I see exactly what you mean after having played it a bit more without the dev mindset.  It feels like you want to sorta chill out and observe your pets, but the frequency of the attacks makes it so you can never achieve the restful state, and when the combat starts you haven't really had time to prepare.  As for moving the critters in preparation for danger, I was planning on adding that feature with some sort of furniture system where u can place gates and whatnot to separate them.
