Thanks!

Glad you got the idea behind the project. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for playing!

Yeah, since both the bullet frogs and the laser frogs, these ones could use a bit of an extra warning. It is curious because, during beta testing, my friend was questioning why he was losing lives, and it was because, when the frog was in the laser line, as soon as the laser was created, the player was immediately hitted, the life lost, and the laser destroyed. So, I ended up playing with the sprites and masks to allow the player understand why he lost a life.

In general, my idea for playing the game was 'when you see a phrobo, avoid that line because you don't know what kind of attack it does'. But yeah, maybe a small inoffensive dotted line at the beginning, before shooting the full laser, might be helpful.

About limiting the range, I will have to think better about that, since I don't have an opinion for now!

Thanks a lot!

About the rate of defective missiles, it might be low, but they are not 100% random. I programmed something like every x rounds, drops 2 or 3 defective missiles. I thought, if every round (during a same life sub-level) the player gets defective missiles, than all the patterns that I created would have been for very little. I went for a curve of difficulty that makes both those missiles more rare (higher x) while also creating more complicated patterns, to balance the overall tension!

Maybe the last life might be the more problematic one, since I think the boss drops defective missiles once every 6 rounds. It is a lot of round, yes, and the patterns are the hardest one (it is the last life), but I ended up compensating for the high tension and the difficulty of catching some missiles by giving many extra lifes to the player during that round.

About losing lives when surrounding by zero lilypads, part of the game is the strategy of controlling the number of lilypads you have in play. You can easily get trapped, not because the level of randomness of the game made you trapped, but only because you decided to get in a bad situation. I understand that, in the first case, you losing a life might be frustrating, but, in the second case, it is blame on the player!

Last, about the music, yeah, sound is my weak suit in these projects. The soundtrack music is highly inspired in a much stronger music, that I tough would be ideal for the game. I really wanted to use such music, but I don't have the rights to it, so I had to work around the best I could!

Thanks! Yeah, sound is not my strong suit, but I will try to improve that a bit in a next update for soon!

Nice concept, but more development would be advised. Still, I got my established goal of 500 points :D.

The sprites are nice, but why the frog always turns to the right when standing? At least, let him stand in the direction it last moved. Also, maybe a working animation would turn out the player's experiment better, just commenting.

For such a huge road, it takes a while to be filled with cars. Although after 100 points, there is a wave of them! So, maybe a little more control on the number of cars would probably be nice!

Nice work!

Thanks! Sorry, but your game is a .rar file. For some reason I can't figure it out, my pc doesn't like to open them!

Thanks! I also enjoyed yours!

It was very good. «A battle royale among tadpoles!» he said with a strong voice. «Our battle will be legendary!» :p

I like the sprites graphics, the gameplay and the sound effects (the only thing is the background music took some time to start, not sure if was on purpose or a bug). Also, the mix between a tutorial and getting to the starting menu was a genius idea.

The other tadpoles are programmed with AI, right? (I mean, they aren't other players, that I think am sure!) Good work on them!

Done. Not my favourite type, but very nice 3D work.

Had some problems figure it out the controls (instructions are kinda hidden), but when I found them, I really like the game. A bit strange that you only hit the eyes, nose and mouth, but it is ok. I like the variety of patterns of attack, the sprites are very nice, and the music is ok.

Done! A very ok one!

It is not my type of game. However, the movement is nicely smooth, the objects are well designed, especially the environment (seems like you inspired yourself in some central American temple rooms, and I really like the environment), and the sounds were very ok. It was good to see a change in the environment (for 3D).

Also, not sure how, but by clicking Esc and running the mouse around (I think around the machine), I made the all room turn upside down and the controls invert themselves. Is that programmed or a glitch?

Yeah, multiplayer, even local, can be a bit crushing when you are alone with no friends;o :p

However, considering one possible limitation before the jam was 'Local Multiplayer', it seems to show pre-planning, which is always good to do!

Anyway, the design and graphics are very good, love the chosen colour contrast, between yellow and purple (well, maybe except the 4th frog, which is a bit strange), and the music really fits the environment.

You know that considering the probability of a catchable object appear on each side of the screen is the same, and even though each frog can launch its tongue, catch an object, and wait sometime x time to relaunch again, the players in the middle are always at a mathematical disadvantage, right?

It is a good party game! But don't speak breakfast next time :p

Hi, I am looking for ratings and feedback for the game I submitted to the jam

https://itch.io/jam/mini-jam-79-frogs/rate/1025920

Of course, you can also leave a link to your game here. I am trying my best to test and comment as many games as I can in my free time.

Happy games you all!

So... the frogs are bad! Ok, haven't seen that it in the jam :p

The sounds got all messed up and I had to turn my audio off. Also various other bugs, already mentioned, kept bugging me! The graphic design was ok but... uuh! I got the idea, seems a nice project, with your time nicely invested, but, for me, it requires more work.

A nice puzzle game that can be developed from here!

Nice platformer, haven't seen that many yet in this jam, and good job for a first hgame jam! The frog was cute, but in the end I was like 'it is a frog or an alien?' :p The controls seem to need some polishment, but the concept is there. Nice work!

Simple, with nice sprites, i like the logs design, but the water requires some movement., more waves to give a bit more emotion to the game, I would say. But it is a nice entry. My best was 58.

A simple game with nice graphics and a nice idea. I liked that the frog counter of the player mirrored with the player! :p

Really, more boss phases? Like, I thought 10 would be a nice number, to make the game not too big, but also because I didn't had more ideas to use as 'weapons', so it would start to be very repetitive. But thanks a lot!

(1 edit)

It is a nice start for a game. The sprites were very nice, as the sound! Hope you develop it more (is a bit weak only like this, only one level). But the concept for a nice platformer is there!

An awesome new concept, loved the story! :D

Jumping right into the game, I see! :p Really loved the graphics and the sound, very polished! But something was missing for me during the gameplay... maybe the static frog always in the same place, or the fish not being that big of a treat... not really sure! But still, nice work!

Nice mechanic and gameplay, and a nice shift between 1 and 2 jumps. It was a nice one!

The first complete run I did in 94.2s, and my best run was 43.7s.

Maybe the game could benefit from some mobility (like moving lilypads...) But it was ok, for the time we had and the limitation. Nice work!

I took some time to understand the keys and possible attacks, but the first level is ok. This takes us to the second level (limitation achievement = failed), which was frustrating, to say the least. Controlling the jump, birds coming from nowhere, one bush in a very narrow place... Someone went overboard, and start adding all the ideas it had for the game :D I got the idea that you are new to this so don't worry! It is still a nice 'first' project! A plus, I liked that you remembered to use the scientific name for the amphibians. I wished I had had that idea :p

I like it. Nice graphics, the sound was only the sound effects, but it was ok, and the gameplay was smooth. Nice mechanic with the tongue. I also liked the story and the twist end! It was funny!

Thanks! Did you jump the instructions (because I think it is explicit there (but I don't blame you, even I jump the instructions sometimes :p ))?

Nice game, good graphics and physics. Got 31.35s.

A nice approach to the classic Frogger. But I found it kinda difficult to save all frogs. My saving rates were at ~50%.

Nice graphics! Simple game and mechanics well applied, which is good!

Hi, take a look at mine too: https://itch.io/jam/mini-jam-79-frogs/rate/1025920

The death animations were a bit scary (since I was always getting surprised by them), but really like the game, and especially the 3D modelling. Very nice work!

When you mention brutal, you are not kidding! It is still nice, even though you have used images with different qualities of design!

Funny one. I liked the mechanic of the jumpy frog only moving in the air, and being so jumpy it sometimes is more of a problem than help. but how can I be mad at such a fluffy frog! :p Only missed some kind of end screen, since I got the stars and the goal, and nothing much happen (except the All clear stage message, of course)!

Thanks a lot! I am not the best advertising things, and my time has been a bit constrained, but I am really glad you got engaged in the game!

Thanks for the insightful critic (probably the most contrary in the list of comments :p ). Feedback of the enemies deaths is really also that should be improved, as the sound (at least the sound effects, because I am not indeed the master of such topic).

Thanks!

Thanks! Some deaths have audios, but might be at the some volume of the music, so they may go unnoticed! And I had no time to create an explosion animation. Notes for a next upgrade!

Really like the variety of spaceships and attacks each one has, as the various enemy attacks. The sound is also very good. Awesome work for only one person!
