The atmosphere of this one is gorgeous, but it's also got some great gameplay too, and I would happily play more of it.

Pretty much the only gripes I had have already been raised on here by a few others, so I'll just mention what I liked. I LOVE opening the canopy. Even with no purpose, it's a great touch. The bootup sequence, physical interface and all those little immersive touches are sublime.

I think some tanks & tracked vehicles would work really nicely as weaker enemies, perhaps beefing up the enemy mechs.

Although I've never played them, this game reminds me of games such as the mechwarrior series.

I like the retroy 32 bit sorta aesthetics on things such as the textures, as well as the bulky utility aesthetic of the mechs.

The sound design is immersive, with the soft sound of rain, or the muffled sounds from outside your mech. The beeps and system sounds, as well as button clicks also made me feel engaged. While I'm guessing the aforementioned games were more sim like in gameplay with system managements and the like, I did like the minor management of stuff such as heat. Additionally with the gameplay, from trying to engage enemies from a distance, or get into positions where I can hit them well, but they can't hit me much. Doing so I also had to account for my weapon's positions as well, to decide which weapons to use.

Not much of a complaint, but being able to destroy trees through weapons or movement would add some world interactivity and satisfaction.

Great entry, with some really polished ad pleasing things, like the cockpit. Only thing I miss are larger spaces to make a better use of turret swing and classic circling, and ability to trump down the trees. Opening the cockpit is a bit futile (or did I miss something) but great fun nonetheless, helps with the immersion

Loved how immersive this was at making you actually feel like actually being in a mech!  Had an issue where a enemy clipped through a side of a hill to come kill me though haha!

Super cool! Felt like I was playing some mech warrior. The weapons felt great and having to balance between the three while having to worry about heat really made me think about how I fought! The only thing more I could wish for is that the trees weren't so invincible and in the way sometimes.

Couple small things though: not sure if it was intentional or not, but if you just keep turning the mech on and off again you can heal back up to 99% hull. Each subsequent time after the first only did it by a few percentage points but still. Also once you die at the end, at least for me the mouse didn't pop up so I couldn't press quit.

Other than those small things though fantastic job! Great atmosphere, great feeling controls, and the cockpit and mech functionality was fantastic. I'd love to see more.

Wow, this is one of my favorite entries.  This is similar to what I was striving for in my game, but this outcompetes it in almost every way.  This is a real homage to the old Mechwarrior games, I absolutely love it.  From the mech start-up to the combat, and the great UI design.  Well done!

A top entry for this jam.

Veeeery nice attention to detail. Rain and open cockpit at the start was a pretty smart move to set up ambience, good idea. The hud on showing up over the canopy and other details like that really sell the feeling of piloting the mech.

Awesome job yet again! The sounds, atmosphere, mech controls - everything was all top notch!

This is awesome! Love the cockpit hud design.

Normally I'm not very comfortable with tank controls, but these felt easy to use. I got a hold of it pretty quickly.

This is probably the best I've played from MechJam so far, and exactly the kind of game I was hoping for from this jam.

I really like the classic tank controls, being able to look around in the cockpit with the mouse was a great decision. The environment is varied and looks interesting and the mech models are very nice.

I really like the combat, the mech systems like heat and coolant charges are on point. The HUD being part of the cockpit is very cool, and the low-pass effect is perfect.

Awesome! Super cool visuals, I love the mech powering on sequence. The weapons are satisfying, and the fighting is intense. Great Jam!

I really love the sounddesign and the atmosphere! Wish there would be more games like this out there.

This has a awesome classic feel. My mech is Heavy, Strong, and Powerful. Already there is a good skill curve where skilled pilot is much more effective than a noob.

The UI was clean, intuitive, and easily discernable.

It is incredible to see what you put together in just a short game jam, and I would absolutely pre-order the finished game now, based on the visuals and quality so far.

Particular details that I like:

•The sound design, especially when opening and closing the cockpit

•The HUD is projected onto the cockpit window, and cuts perfectly with it

•The tradeoffs between heat, mobility, and firepower

•The different subtle uses for the different weapons.

You probably have a bunch of things to add to your game, but if you continue it, here are some things I'd like to suggest:

•Controller re-configuration axis by axis (I want to use my old joystick and such)

•Missiles locking on if you look at the target long enough

•A shield to equip which would prevent all damage, but use up heat instead

•the ability to harvest cool-down charges from your fallen foes.

•moving faster but taking more damage if the cockpit is open

•Quietness as a game mechanic, where if you move slowly you are less detectable on the radar and such. (more reason to open the cockpit)

•I SO want the ability to destroy the trees with my missiles.

•A button (middle mouse?) to align the legs to the cockpit automatically

•of course even more weapon options, and a load-out so I can pick between what is equipped. (some of which wouldn't be weapons, but instead extra coolant, speed boosts, or armor)

•a radio in the cockpit to switch on to play one of 3 types of music or not. (Cause why not?) or for a voice chat. Of course making more noise makes you more detectable

•and a super simple thing called multiplayer. I'm sure you could just toss that in easy (sarcasm)

      • and along with multiplayer, some mission modes such as capture the flag, and king of the hill

Developer

Thanks! Oh man it's funny but a few of those things were actually on my to do list but I ran out of time; the turret alignment button, the radio, and destroyable trees, specifically. That shield idea is pretty brilliant, not going to lie haha I'd love to keep working on this to some extent, so that would be a great addition.

I have to say this is one of the closest experiences I've had to playing a Mechwarrior type game in a long time! Like the controls feel right on point, really juicy, and very well made sound design!

AWESOME. Thank you, that was exactly the vibe I was going for haha
