LEMIIIIII oh wow! The audio, the art, the attention to detail the UI and the feedback! Amazing in the time for the jam. You should be really proud of what you did here!

look at this lil guy 🤍

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much Tom! I am so happy you were able to see the game in action! hahaha I had some input to make that doggy extra cute! I am going to be updating soon and adding a few additional things to the game but thank you so much! Yeah i tried to cram too much in such little time XD I need to learn to scope a bit better.

Submitted(+1)

A better distinction between the speakers would really be helpful...

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying out the game! I began to realize as people played it some had a bit of confusion with the characters so that is a definite most in my update that will come soon! I wonder if its better to show the names or just change the color of the text. Ill experiment with it!

Art and UI both looked fantastic. Sound design also fit really nicely with with the rest of the spooky alien theme.

Loved it, a really solid Visual Novel.

Developer

Thank you so much! Getting the spooky levels just right is always a plus XD I bet you enjoy it since i noticed you put a lot of effort into adding that tension in your game! Sound to me is also such a clue to understanding horror, without it there is hard to create the feeling.

Submitted(+1)

legitimately loved the art, the sound, and the overall aesthetic. No idea why, but it was giving me metroid vibes - probably the music. Anyway, nice work!

Developer

That is so high praise! if the music reminded you of Metroid I am more than flattered! I really hoped to create an experience for the player! It is my objective to always get you to enjoy the adventure and find out weird creepy wonders or make u chuckle. Thanks for the support!

An organic mech is a first in this jam as far as I can tell.  Nice idea.

How as your experience working with renpy?  I've seen it around but never jumped in to check it out.

Developer

It is actually quite friendly, there is a lot of new videos on yt that really help out a lot with setting everything up, specially the ones from ZEIL she has a great community on discord as well, and can ask many questions about it. So far it has been fun using it, and is very intuitive for narrative driven games! But you can break the mold and do much more with the engine. Is continually being updated by the creator, and we hope to see more use of shaders and such that I am wanting so bad to use! Thanks again for the support!

Of course!

I love the surreallness of the whole game.  The visuals are far surpassing what I've seen done with RenPy before.  I really hope you go farther with this one and add in more content because it is really a great start!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! When I got my hands on renpy I saw the potential for making narrative driven games in a more straight forward manner, and there are many tools and forums plus documentation that allow's you to change a lot! I even heard of Pygame implementations inside Renpy allowing you to put mini games and such, So I've just been gathering all these tools and practicing with my games to see what can be done! It has been fun to say the least! I have plans to put this one in another competition so in a few days I will be putting more updates to it and expanding on the lore and story. Thanks for the support!

I had good fun with Waffles haha!  Are you planning on continuing this?  :)  I really liked the art style for it, reminded me of a PC-9801 game! Dam I wanted to play the greedy one though haha!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for making that relation with PC-9801 games! I adore that era and the framing around the screen, I was definitely inspired on it! I alove to see youtube videos about them XD And lol Waffles fit's him so perfectly made me chuckle! I am definitly planning on expanding it and adding more playable characters, I had to stop due to the time constraints, but there is another jam that is about visual novels, and they are allowing to bring unfinished projects, So im thinking of expanding this one and investing a bit more into it to see how it comes works out!  I was sad I could not bring the complete vision for the jam. But alas it is what it is.

Submitted(+1)

Awee you shouldn't be sad what you have is a really nice jumping off point!  :)  I love their style so can definitely spot it in yours! Its got some really good hidden gems just got to wade through all the cheap hentai games to find them haha!    Although I will have to check it out when you do it!  Although what jam is it?  I have a unfinished visual novel I may want to get finished haha!

Developer(+1)

I know exactly what you mean! So much of it is just hentai you are right, but sometimes there are some good ones, That is why I wanted to go down more of the scif-fi route instead, I dont like the cheap boob girl game, although of course they sell well, is not what im interesting in.

The jam is called SuNoFes  https://itch.io/jam/sunofes22 here is the link for it if you want to participate! It gave quite a bit of time for creators to work on their games!

Submitted(+1)

If you have not already play Rusty it's a good one.... It's pretty much a castlevania knock off with awesome level design but crossed with a boob game xD

And you have more higher standards than I do haha! The shower scene in my game was 50% typical anime so i needed it, 50% I wonder if this will help to actually drive traffic to my game haha! Any promotion tips I can ask politely for you seem to be getting pretty good views and comments yourself!

And thanks for the link :)  Wow that is a long jam time xD  I'll see if I am less burnt out from this jam after a week.. too many 3am bed times the last fortnight...

Developer(+1)

OOof tell me about it, that last 3am night left me dead, I think im still recuperating lol!

I think is pretty normal now a days specially in the anime circles to include fan service in some way or another, I think most anime i've watched had those tropes lol. Is not necessary but we all know it sells specially among young people. That is why Shonen jump has beautiful women in all their manga's usually.  I know steam has tons of echii games lol.

As for promoting the game, I usually try to make sure all the tags are set right, the description is clear and concise, having a decent arrival page for the player, being consistent in quality and execution of the stories. Making contacts in Discord and posting your game in a lot of discord channels that allow promotion. Oh and having an active twitter has also helped.

I also realized since my games Clicker V and Fear Me got a lot of good hype form those last two competitions, they give me spots on their fresh games sections so people see them sometimes. I think having a présense all over really helps with visibility.

Also I realized the tactic of using red lettering or red's on the covers helps a lot to call attention, since people dont have a lot of time to go through all the entries, they go for the most eye attracting ones. Also having animated gif on your description showing off what you have.

You poor thing it's over now at least haha xD

Oh many the amount of mech anime openings I watched for this project its ridiculous the amounts of fanservice in them haha like constantly floating naked silhouettes and stuff like that. And yeah shonen knows exactly what its marketing though but I would say that's a industry wide thing more so...  Its rare you get ugly main characters unless they are meant to be comic relief.

Omg thank you so much for the advice!  Starting to apply it to my own pages now thank you!  Just found GifCam, geez its a handy little program. Will have to go and fix up some of my tags though for sure :3

But thank you so much it means a lot :)   If you ever need any 3D stuff done don't be afraid to reach out I would be happy to help!

Hey Studio Lemi, this is a fresh followup to mech cocoon from last year. Fantastic to see that you are still going strong!

Developer

Thank you so much for those kind words! And no plan on stopping! Gonna continue creating more content and expanding on the one I already made, so just you wait and see!  It was fun seeing your prototype I really hope you can continue it, or if I get to see more of your content would be great!

Nice job! I would call this more of a visual novel or a choose your own adventure novel than an adventure game. But I love games with a good narrative.

I really enjoyed the animation and the music. You achieved such an eerie vibe! And I liked the story - my only complaint is that during the dialog parts it was difficult to differentiate which character was speaking. If you changed the text font, color, or alignment for the different speakers, that might help visually.

Also, only one of the characters was an option to pick when I played it. I think maybe you just haven't created the others yet, though?

I was also impressed at how lengthy a game you were able to create in the short time. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the review! Yeah I've been trying to identify the type of game I should call it, I guess visual novel be more appropriate!

I am happy you liked the game! I thought about the colors as well for the fonts, I didn't know if I wanted to mess with the 2 color scheme, but I think it would have helped, Ive done it in other games of mine, I was torn between doing it or not. D:

Also yes there were supposed to be more characters and more story, but due to the time constraints I had to cut a lot of content sadly, so the story ended up being short, I wanted the player to experience being there with the pilot helping them sort their thoughts.

Hopefully ill be able to continue it and expand on it, or just continue on to the next project XD

Thanks again!

Another Studio Lemi home run! Definitely the best art and visuals I have ever seen in your submissions to my jams, really beautiful. Super interesting concept too I hope you make the rest of the story.

Love the vibes. I was expecting horror and not a cute cat hahaha. I want to see how it ends!

Developer

HAhahhaha! omg that comment made my day! I love messing with people in games! XD Subvert expectations! Also if you select different animals they also appear LOL I think i'll end up adding more to the game, since I had planned out four routs with different more complete endings and various silly animal interactions XD
