Did you work in a team?
What was originally a pair of cool dudes quickly turned into a band of 6 friends.

Pinapl (me) did all the coding, sound, and some of the art (some bugs and most of the UI).
Jay2a did a lot of the art (frogs, bugs, environment), and was frankly better than me at it.
Cmacle provided the 80's arcade voice lines, which we all agree are the best part.
Krispy made the music which, despite what he says, is absolutely perfect.
Ash drew the cover art, which is cool as heck.
and Noah did playtesting, more than anyone else did. Noah is kind of a gamer.

Was the resolution a challenge?
So.. few.. pixels..
The hardest part about such limited real-estate was conveying any kind of useful information to the player. But somehow, the frogs look like frogs and the 4 pixel high numbers are just barely readable.

What did you learn?
I learned that our time management is bad. Also frogs are cool.
In the future I wanna make sure the game is in a playable state more than a day before the submission deadline so we have more than 12 hours to playtest, balance, and bugfix.

Fun game! A  lot of nice variety in towers and enemies, I appreciate the sound effects a lot, and the music as well. Upgraded forms having different sprites was a very nice touch, as well as the dragonfly breaking into pieces as it died. I got to wave 40, but got a game over with no chance to react during the queen fight (I was holding down spacebar to speed things up).

Glad you liked the game! These little bits of attention to detail were definitely fun to add to the game

Unfortunately wave 40 is bugged and will kill you even if you're paying attention. We already have a fix and are just waiting for the game jam to be over so we can push that update

A really solid take on the tower defense format, if a bit on the easy side. Nonetheless, it hooked me in just fine and I sat through two entire stages all the way to wave 40 :) Awesome release!

Really liked the game! Really nice art and music and I loved the voiceover on new waves!

A straightforward tower defense game. I liked the different varieties of frogs and bugs. I forgot there were other stages because I beat the first stage at level 40, would have been cool to move on to the next stage after each one but understand the time constraints. Solid entry all round.

A fellow frog game! This game looks fantastic—the different types of frogs are very well done and are distinguishable at a glance, and of course the arcade-style callouts are delightful. "Spicy frog" never fails to make me grin. Tower defense balancing is always difficult but you've done a good job of it here.

I think my one quibble with the stages is that for Stage 2 in particular, there's nothing indicating that the bugs will make a loop around the track! I'd assumed that they'd split at the fork and rejoin at the other side. Not a huge deal, you figure it out after the first play, but something I thought I'd mention.

I look forward to revisiting this post-jam when the known issues are cleared up!

I like tower defense games, and I like frogs. What could I ask for more? Solid entry, well done!

This game is a lot of fun, wasn't quite sure what happened on Wave 40 but I saw on the gamepage that it kills you straight away, which is a shame because I would have liked to get a win screen or something haha

Visually the game looks really nice, the frogs are distinct and easy to tell apart, even as you upgrade them and the colours change. I appreciate the little bits of foliage and decoration as well. The font was a little hard to read, but that's the nature of the jam, everyone's text is hard to read haha Couple of things that really stood out is the wave progress bar on the side, it's unobtrusive but really good information, and the title screen animation which looks great. Nice level of polish on the visuals.

Audio was good, music was relaxing and I loved the voice acting XD. I was worried the shooting sounds would get a bit jarring but even when I had a lot of spicy bois going in the later waves it was fine, the actual placing noise was a little high pitched and sharp for my boomer ears, but you only hear it like 10 times a game so it's all good.

The only feedback I would have really is balance based, which is always going to be a challenge for a jam game.

Great entry! Good job to the team!

Glad you liked the game! I know we had a ton of fun working on all the distinct frogs and various features to give it that extra bit of polish.

As far as balance goes we sort of ran out of time to work on balancing the game towards the end of the jam. I don't think any of us knew balancing a tower defense game could be so much work :P

We have a lot of updates and bug fixes ready to push and patiently waiting for voting on the game jam to end :P

It's a shame we couldn't get those fixes out in time but such is the nature of game jams

Really great game! I've seen a few other tower defense games submitted but this one is definitely the most fleshed-out one I've seen.  I like the voice telling me what selected lol! Sounds perfect.
Will be playing this a bit more after I finish working today!

Really a great little tower defence you have here! 🤗 Loved it! Really had to laugh with the frog selection sound 😂

Awesome game! I like the variety of frogs and insects, the voice acting, and the title screen. The attention to detail overall is insane!

If you want, you could consider adding enemies with different movement options (take shortcuts, ignore path) to make the frog placement matter more. How about a gold frog that earns more money? Just some ideas, the game is near perfect as it is!

Developer(+1)

There have been jokes about a golden frog among the team, now I really want to add that. Money frog. Thank you for playing!

Great audio, the art was really good too. I wish the game got harder a little easier because the beginning was really easy and I got bored. I also wish the board was a bit bigger, but that's hard with 64x64 limitation. Overall great job, I enjoyed as is, and with just a bit of work it could be even more fun :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah unfortunately we didn't really leave ourselves enough time to work on balancing frogs and waves among other things. Such is the nature of game jams :P

Loved the muffled audio - the music was really nice and the voice over was a nice touch.
The frog/fly theme was also super cute.
I thought the sniper frog's 100% red tongue was a bit harsh maybe could have toned that down a bit.

Very funny reinterpretation of tower defense with FROGS!!! Nice you have quite a wild variety of frogs in there, as well as a legion of bugs. Great job on this entry.

Congratulations on making this game !

I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :

The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.

I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful. Keep it up !
