Was the resolution a challenge?
From start there was idea for game about letters. That letters in lowrez are hard.
What did you learn?
A lot! litl bit hasty with this poll )

This is really cool idea that works amazing with the resolution. Really sad i didnt see it until after the rating period.
Oh, I adore this! What a lovely idea and a creative take on a "typing game". I've been typing all my life and I could easily press any given letter on the board, but having to think "Okay, I need a letter with a high bar" or "Okay, I need a letter to hit both sides" is an entirely different duck. Bravo.
Aw, thank you very much )
Yeah! I get you, it's surprising for me too how game make you look on letter from a different point of view.
What a creative little game!
I need to draw a chart of the font to become a pro gamer at RuneDuck :)
I’ll second the other comment about making all the letters uniform in width. It’d feel more intuitive if, say, “E” covered the same cells as “F” plus the bottom bar.
If you’re worried about the middle-left and middle-right columns not being hit as often, how about making the vowels bold? Something like this perhaps:
Thank you! Very nice of you )
About width - very agree with you and others that it's counter-intuitive. Myself always falls into E / F trap. Yeah, the point really was about hitting 2nd and 4th columns more frequently, but also make 1st and 5th column hitting less frequently to round up "probability" of cell hitting. Though your idea about bold vowels don't come to me, it's really clever. I'm glad that my game made you so involved ))
Very unique and creative game idea. Having to mentally picture different letters on the board as enemies decent is rather stressful and keeps you on your toes (in a good way lol). I think maybe the game could have been improved a little by speeding up the turns as time went on however (or maybe it did, and I just didn't notice?). Either way, nice job.
Aw, thank you ! I'm glad that you enjoyed the game )
Oh yes, game speeds up a little after every wave. Maybe too little )
really enjoyed this game, the gameplay is really fun and creative.
nice game.
Thank you! )
Neat game! Reminds me a lot of Bookworm, a game I was addicted to back when I was in ESL classes haha. I didn't really understand when/how the letters reset though, that would've helped me plan my letters better.
Thank you! Oh, I also played bookworm game in childhood! Though in my case it was Bookworm adventures. Very liked it despite the absence of knowledge of English words at that time))
Letters resets when crystal becomes green. It fills when you kill an enemy. At that times book shines, all letters turned green and you can use them one more time.
Very clever typing game… took me a bit to identify it was the letters pattern that was “cast” as your spell. Really a very original take on typing games! Nice music too. Great entry, really a different gameplay!
Thank you! Oh, you are first who faced that problem. Maybe a low resolution of fonts are to blame or game UI)
Wouldn’t say problem, but it did not click immediately in place, I probably was expecting something different ;)
I really enjoyed this, such an original idea and very fun to play. The only thing that bothered me is that the letters are not all the same width, which made it hard to know where a letter would hit on the grid, I kept missing things in the left hand column when I was using the E key. Maybe you did that deliberately so that every square would be covered, I don't know. Either way, very fun, and it was cool discovering which letters hit a lot of squares at once. :)
Thank you !
You absolutely right - I deliberately changed width of vowels to make every square visited evenly +/- It was a hard desicion but hope for the best experience )
Nice idea and cool graphics, it's a bit too difficult at first because it's hard to guess which pixels the font will cover
Thank you! Yeah, sometimes it's hard to predict font layout. I suggested to show letters on screen, but it immediately felt noisy.
Maybe you could show the attack area of the key with first input and use attack at the second input. Game is cool but randomly missing hits because I couldn't guess where the B`s holes would be felt a bit unfair.
Hmmm it's clever idea! I would defenetly use it if game was turn based. Okey, it IS turnbased , but with a limited time on turn. And that forces some chaotic desitions. And thats good for me )
Of course it would be ideal if players knows where exactly they attack, but that will come with practice it seems.
Really clever idea. I like how it takes a while to regenerate letters so you're forced to get creative. There was some guess work with letters not hitting the cells I expected, but I'm not sure how you would fix that.
The graphics and the audio are charming. The duck's expressions are a nice touch.
I wish the score counted the enemies killed rather than the rounds passed. Maybe some score bonuses if you kill a bunch of enemies with one letter. I could never seem to get further than round 2 so it would be nice to have some more granularity.
Thank you!
Yes, many people point that letters written not like they expected. And I really don't know how to fix it ) I really wanted to use more standard way of writing, but don't hit it every time as you noticed. Oh, what letters made you difficulties?
I really wanted to add scoring for killing enemies and bonuses like you suggested, but during development I run into troubles with fonts and that idea was cut (
nice idea on the gameplay and i love the graphics
I love it ^^ theres definitely some trial and error and eventual panic mashing haha but this is great. I love you attention to detail with rune ducks expressions if you already used a letter or not. :)
Aw, thank you ) I'm glad that you enjoy it !
Yeah, I wanted to show that player did something wrong . In three different ways - sound, red light on the keyboard and duck animation.
This is a interesting novel idea. It was not always certain how the letter would be displayed on the grid so there was a bit of trail and error but solid entry.
Thank you for reply !
Yes, I thought about it and accepted fact that everyone have their own picture of letters in minds. And there only general idea how letter would be written. Trial and error, as you said.
Innovative idea and nicely executed. Looks good, sounds good and plays well. Good stuff!
One small gripe is that the game doesn't use the user's own keyboard layout so for touch typists on non-qwerty keyboards, hitting the correct letter is extremely difficult.
Thank you!
Oh yes, it came to me that not everyone have qwery keyboards, but time was running away and I hadn't easy solutions
So I just crossed fingers and hoped that all be okey )
Clever idea, great UI, lovely duck. I really enjoyed my time with it, I panicked a couple of times and hammered frantically on the keyboard. It just works, amazing.
Oww thanks! Espessialy for lovely duck!
Oh! At last! It may sound strange but I happy to hear that you panicked couple times ))
One moment you hold situation under control. It almost boring. Next second - its three rows full of enemies, you click on B, your best frend, but letter dont respond. W? M? D, last resort !??!? Oh no, all hearts are broken... That feeling )
It worked for me, and I hoped will worked for someone else)
Yes! It also happens sometimes that you look for the best letter, find it, press it, but... Too late, the cats have moved forward and now what?
It's a really fun game!
Thank you one more time )
Interesting idea and unique gameplay, nice!
Thank you one more time )
It took me a bit to understand how it works but.. what a great idea :) Very good game! To make the game a bit easier, one possible option is to allow to press a key twice (maybe using green, orange, red pattern in the keys?).
Good job!
Thank you! )
I don't wanted make game hard delibirately, on the contrary i wanted to make game that you can easly understand. Concept of nonrepeating letters itself seems non easy, but nesessary for better gameplay. If I add third color on "keaboard" it maybe could make game too hard to understand. Or not )) Thank for opinion any way.
Hey smartmagpie. I'm playing the WebGL version of your game.
So far so good, I like the concept. Want to play it a little bit more but was surprised about one thing:
Volume keys from my keyboard changes the sample being played in the game :D!
Not sure if its a bug or was intentional, but I was amusingly surprised by this bug/feature XD.
So much that I might use some similar in the future.
Absolutely loved it!
Very clever idea, using the shape of the letters as "spells" kind of.
It's surprising how challenging to master the concept.
The idea of not allowing the same latter twice is simply awesome.
Amazingly original entry!
Owww Thank you !
Im happy to hear you enjoing the game.
That idea came to me from discussion about how hard to put words in low resolution games.
Wha.. but how? Its truly miracle , cause in game was loaded just one sample!
I'm glad that its gave you creative idea))
Probably affecting the tempo, playtime or something?
Updated game on WebGL build. Yey!
I really really love the game concept! It's a little annoying that you can't repeat letters but it does make the game better. I also like the soundtrack a lot and it looks great.
Ooo thanks a lot! non repeating annoying, i can understand, but it prevent player from abusing one letter that spread on all columns every turn. Glad you have fun.
