Really well done! Was really happy to see dungeon transitions when going into a new dungeon. great job at blending your text boxes to match your game. This little detail really wraps an entire project together so great job!

Wish I had health pickups or maybe a hit delay. Maybe a few Outer world enemies.  Loved the Use of the glowing sword light to find your way through the dungeons.

Developer

Thanks very much! I was hoping to dot some enemies around the outer world around the town, and make it more of an epic journey to get to the towers too. I've got a long list of improvements to make to the game after the jam! Totally agree about the hit delay, its a small tweak but should make combat more satisfying. Pickups will be added too I'm sure, even if they are just insta-fill hearts instead of potions to consume at a later point (don't trust myself to write an inventory system yet!).

Very impressive for your first published game.  I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the overworld map and the procedural dungeons.  The difficulty ramped up a bit quickly on me.  Maybe toss the player an extra heart now and then ;)

Developer

Great feedback, thanks! I was hoping to populate the overworld with more variety, but ran out of time. Adding health drops is a good idea, I'd need to balance it with the new enemies I intend to add...

Nice work! Really liked the lighting effect and the randomly generated dungeons.

Very nice, love the sword lighting effects. Combat is a good start, can definitely be expanded upon.

Overall great game!

nice game, especially at later stage the game become more challenging, exploring the dungeon with 1 health and being chased by swarm of zombies really pump up the excitement

Developer(+2)

Thanks very much! Being able to generate the dungeons procedurally definitely helped me add scaling to the difficulty far more quickly... the game simply multiplies some variables based on the number of towers you have already defeated ;)

Very fun little action adventure romp - I was particularly impressed with the fact that it seemed like your tower dungeons were randomly generated (and the monsters seemed to be pathfinding through the generated content)! The general atmosphere was also really enjoyable.

I think my only real criticisms would be that I found myself sometimes doing no damage if I tried to spam the attack button too quickly and also found that sometimes I lost multiple hearts in the blink of an eye when I made a mistake and let 1 or more enemies hit me.

Really had fun playing this though - you got a lot of cool stuff implemented for such a short jam!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks very much! Yes, the towers are procedurally generated and scale based on how many you've beaten. The enemies pathfind once you enter their area of detection. I agree with the comments about the combat system, it definitely needs some refinement! Hopefully I'll be able to improve it after the jam is over.

Very cool! I like the sword combat, the visuals, and the music. Keep up the good work!

Thanks very much for playing!

Pretty cool game! Captures the theme well and the creepy music works well.

The last dungeon was pretty tricky. Had to master the tactical retreat while swinging that sword like a lunatic!

As other reviews mention a little knockback would help as would a debounce/short invul after being hit would help also as if a pack of 5 zombies all land a  hit at once you instagib even with full health.

Well done though!

Developer

Thanks very much! I reckon that adding some projectile-based enemies would rather improve gameplay and challenge... pretty sure I'll be adding more to the game after the jam!

Really fun game and music/visuals are great!

At first I thought the game was pretty easy.  Then proceeded to be immediately  murdered by giant swarms of enemies in the last 2 dungeons! After dying it was great to see that the dungeon was re-generated which resulted in me being murdered over and over by the giant swarms of enemies.

Good work!

I think adding some push back to the char when taking damage would be a nice  addition.

Developer

Thanks very much for the feedback! As discussed in Discord, I just ran out of time and couldn't work out the knockback vector (mental block I guess). When the jam is over I think I will do some of my planned extensions to the game to make it better...

Good game it is fun.

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I really like the attack feedback and how entering the scary building the colors have changed to make the game seems scary. Cool idea!

Developer

Thanks. I had hoped to make it darker and more foreboding through better lighting, but ran out of time. I had also intended to "theme" each tower... I might add more to it after the jam 😉

Very well done! Especially for your first ever game!  Love the idea of a town with a bunch of dungeons you have to clear to lift the curse.

Were those dungeons randomly generated?

Developer(+1)

Thanks very much! Yes, the towers are generated procedurally based on the number of cleared towers. So the first tower you enter is small and has only 1 zombie per room, but the last one is 5 times the size and generates 1-5 zombies per room.

Good atmosphere and use of assets :)

Developer

Thanks very much!

Excellent atmosphere and captures the theme well. A little more feedback for when enemies are hit would have been a nice addition

Developer

Thanks for the feedback - yes I had planned to add knockback, camera shake, and a hit effect - but ran out of time :(

+ Captures cursed mood

+ Nice graphics

+ Cool mode swing once you win the game

- A bit repetitive gameplay

- Combat seems slightly unpolished as enemies sometimes don't die

Overall nice moody game, not too long, and the difficulty seemed just right.

Developer

Thanks! I agree about the repetitiveness - I had originally planned to theme each of the 5 towers, and add at least 4 enemy types as well as a boss, but sadly ran out of time... I have a long list of improvements I may add to the game, once the jam is over.
