Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! We're planning to make a few updates to the game, so it sounds like we should make it longer :)

The gameplay idea is really neat and art is amazing!

Developer

Thanks, really appreciate it :D

I feel like the movement code was very bad and hindered the gameplay. The visuals and music are really nice and fit the game. Maybe also the distance traveled should be less, and more attacks and varied gameplay would complete this one. Some games are harder to complete in jam time, haha

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback!

Yeah I get what you mean. We didn't have time to tweak the values for many things, so we just went if the first code and moved to the next feature.

Cheers

Well, that was fun!

There wasn't much difference between different stages and it's quite easy, if you know what you're doing.

I loved the animations too!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Glad you enjoyed the animations, we have our artist to thank for that - they still make me chuckle when I replay the game  😄

Did you have any ideas for making the game more challenging? We are working to improve the game, so any suggestions are welcome :)

Submitted(+3)

More challenging you say? Hm. The game is about seeing what would come up next and react accordingly. So you may introduce something that would make it harder for player to notice such things (a fog that covers right side of the screen, so there's less time to react or a night level with thunderstorm illuminating the level once in a while, so that you have to memorise what's next, since you cannot see that all the time). I don't know, you're clever people, I'm sure you'll figure something out given more time than 48h :D Cheers!

Developer(+2)

Jeez, the thunderstorm idea is amazing!! In fact, I'm gonna run that past the team now, it would be really fun to implement. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback

This game was a lot of fun! It looks and sounds great. I love your detailed animation on the robot, and the music is really good too. The game was a little easy, I skipped right to the last level after playing the first 3 and had no problem. I'm not sure how well it fits the theme of out of control, but I had fun playing regardless!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

Good point about the difficulty. Did you have any ideas for making the game more challenging? My team has been thinking about adding 'hazards' inside the robot, like spikes and exposed wires that the scientist has to avoid.

I think if we had more time we could have built out the out-of-control theme a bit more. An intro to show the robot entering the city and the 'autopilot' function breaking, forcing the evil scientist to manually control a now out-of-control robot would be one way of consolidating the theme. Definitely something to think about for future versions!

Nice job with this one! It's a cool take on the theme and is very visually appealing. Good fun to play!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the feedback! I love how the game ended up looking too :)

Are you seriously telling me the art and the game itself were done in 48 hours? Insane, the game is excellent! I always had an idea for something similar, but you indeed played with the concept thoughtfully. There is so much potential in the game, like adding the random infinite levels, etc., as well as new features and functions later in the game. Hopefully, you will keep up with it, but anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing more from you

Thank you so much for the kind words!
Haha I'm a developer on the team, and I still can't believe we built everything from scratch in 48 hours! We are planning on making improvements to the game (infinite levels - you read our minds  🙂)

Submitted(+1)

Best of luck to you with the game :)

Developer(+2)

This is so cool - glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words. We definitely plan to take the game a bit further :)

Pretty fun!  I like the multitasking aspect of the gameplay - are the lower level maps procedurally generated?

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! It is not precedurally generated in this build, but it is totally possible, because all the stages are already rendered dynamically according to a set of data that we manually created. There is actually a option for you to upload your own stages, but to unlock it you'd have to beat all the stages first ;D

All the stages data is generated from this JSON: https://github.com/blopa/mecha-mayhem/blob/0.0.1-alpha.4/assets/stages/stages.json

Fantastic art design, and a cool take on the theme. I think it would have been more interesting if there were more dangers on the inside of the mech that you had to avoid, like fire or smoke. Or even make both screens vertical and have the character literally going up and down the mech. But still a really fun game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! You read our minds, we talked about adding spike traps and other hazards, but ran out of time. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+4)

Amazing! The art is so beautiful and the gameplay is good, congratulations, amazing job!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for the feedback! We were lucky enough to have an artist on our team, hence the great artwork :)

Submitted(+4)

Very confusing at first, but after I got used to it, it was frantic fun! Good job!

Submitted(+3)

This game is suprisingly fun and original! Took me a bit to get the hang of it, but after that it was really engaging!

My only complaint is the level generation, which can be kind of weird at times (long passages of nothing, enemies spawning seemingly in oneanother). That could've used some work, or maybe you could've just used premade leves.

Other than that, great game! :D

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback. I get what you mean. There are many variable that could be changed to make some of those problems to go away. We mainly need to play the game more and balance it out.

Well we actually added a secret feature that if you beat all the levels, you can upload your own levels (sequence of enemies) and play them. Good luck ;D

Submitted(+4)

Wow this game is very fun! The concept is amazing. Wish the inputs were a bit more fluid. But really great otherwise. Top notch art!

Submitted(+1)

I was also gonna say - better input and larger hitboxes for the "chargers".

Developer(+1)

Thanks, really appreciate it! Cheers.

Submitted(+3)

fantastic game! The art and the ideia are great, just think the first levels are a bit slow. I rate your, could you rate ours?

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing our game! And for your feedback too :) I'll definitely give yours a try.
