This is one of few fully polished and complete entries Ive played in the jam. The levels are pretty straightforward but there is a good amount of content. One critique would be the inability to predict what is below a ledge which was sometimes trial and error for a small amount of levels with hazards below.  Graphics and music were also decent and fits very well in a gameboy game.

This was a banger! I absolutely loved the audio design, visual style, puzzles and overall approach etc. Super strong execution here y'all! My only nitpick is that I had a hard time with there not being enough contrast between some of foreground and background elements. Two quick examples: 1) during the ruins stages it looks like your player is floating above the ground without an outline on the floor depending on what's behind you (the screenshot here on itch shows this well) and 2) arrows in the temple stages appeared to disappear into the brick background due to not enough contrast. Thanks for making and sharing your game.

Thanks so much for playing and for the kind words!

RE feedback: I know exactly what you mean about the ruins floor tiles! And I agree, the contrast definitely needed a bit of work in places. I had planned to fix/tweak those kinds of things, but the ending took a lot longer to make than I had planned and we just ran out of time!

I enjoyed the very straight-forward nature of the puzzles and the introduction of the puzzle mechanics over time. The game starts off super strong with the striking visuals of the crash and the awesome soundtrack really creating the vibe.

I found myself wishing that the complexity/difficulty ramped up a bit faster since a few of the early levels felt a bit like filler since they didn't really introduce anything new or any of the things that I'd seen previously in combination with each other. I also ended up with a soft-lock scenario when I was supposed to stack the idol and a barrel and ended up putting the idol up higher to get hit by an arrow that knocked it out of my reach to get it back, lol.

Overall a very good execution on a solid concept.

Seems a few people have got soft locked on that puzzle! Glad you enjoyed the game though! Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

What a great game, I like the short levels with the puzzles. Everything fits perfectly!!!

WOW, I really liked this game! It was so fun and clever. The cursed idol in a temple was brilliant for the jam theme. And I need to remember how you did this too: make a few key assets but then make puzzles with how they interact, like the arrows moving the other items, I never would have thought of something that ingenious! It's simple but perfect!

The music was 100%. The overall theme of the artwork with the Indiana Jones guy and the temples were 100% too, though I will say that individually I found some things a little hard to read, but then again you made this in only days! I was bummed that it didn't save my level and I had to start over, I hope you might add that feature in the future because this game is challenging but something I'd come back to.

Overall, I loved it. Congrats on an awesome game!

Thanks so much for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed this game. The graphics, music/sounds and general feel are nice, and are definitely gameboy-esque. Player movement felt good, but some interactions with the environment were a little finnicky. I enjoyed the puzzle aspect much more than the platformer aspect. Some of the platformer bits were a little tedious. I think the most apparent was the slow moving arrows with giant hitboxes, in particular the 6 vertical arrows in a row.

That said, this is really well done all in all, and is definitely my favorite so far. My only other complaint is that I got stuck and it took a bit to figure out how to reset on keyboard. Consider showing “press <start> to reset” all the time.

Well done, this is a great entry!

PS, you can cheese the boulder by just letting it hit you when you’re not holding the idol. I chose to do it the “hard way” anyway :)

yeah, some kind of soft lock detection that can bring up the reset level prompt when the player gets stuck would be a great addition.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the game

Great game! I'm a fan of how the music changed in each area despite still using the same base theme. My only real criticisms are that the "arrows shooting the barrel" puzzles took a bit too long and the music doesn't properly loop in the final Temple area.

Awesome!!

The ambience settles very nicely, and the first levels are really good introductory levels, that get elaborated upon later, and it feels great when we understand each room's solution! The main mechanic makes for a good player choice!

Unfortunately I got softlocked on one of the ruin level! The one where we're supposed to put down a barrel so it gets pushed by an arrow? I put down the idol instead, and the arrow pushed it too far for me to take it back... Dumb move yeah xD

But otherwise, it was really fun, thank you!!

yeah that puzzle one of the reasons we added the level reset button!
glad you enjoyed the game. thanks for playing!

That was great! The art is proficient, the music is foreboding and full of action, and the mechanics are quite fun. Weaving through the temple's puzzles and traps was satisfying. That water transparency effect is impressive!

In the last few levels, the arrows were quite difficult to distinguish from the background, especially while moving at high speed in the last level.

The volume options are much appreciated! That said, the default volumes make the sound effects a bit loud compared to the music: Music at 6 and SFX at 5 seems to be a more balanced volume.

The "Team Submarine" logo is clever; I like it!

Fantastic! Great work!

yay - first comment about the water effect! have been teaching myself shaders and that took about two days to get working!
thanks for playing! great feedback too.

Very clever interpretation of the theme. It was a fun game. Well done!

This game looks great! It's also fun to play and I appreciate that you had a good in-game tutorial to get me ready for later levels. The scope of the game seems perfect for a game jam, so kudos to you for a job well done!

This was really well done. I did sadly have the out of bounds glitch happen to me on the first stage and the first level of the temple. I was able to get through the first one, but got stuck at the temple one. Music was great, art was really well done and the arrow moving the barrel solution was cool. Great job!

(Chrome on mac if you're curious about browser for the bug)

hey, thanks for pushing on despite the glitch!
thanks for the system info = it seems to only be an issue for mac users as far as we can tell

Found a glitch when the floor and player disappear at the start of stage 1 jungle when played in browser.

thanks for letting us know, could you share please what type of system you are using , pc or mac, etc? thanks!

You guys need way more votes. Is it a platformer? yes, but is it a very good puzzle platformer with a bunch of levels? YES! I got softlocked in the temple, by ending up inside an arrow shooter, but amazing that you made three worlds each with a number of stage. Congratz!

inside an arrow shooter!? haha thats a new one! thanks so much for the kind words. glad you enjoyed it

Submitted(+1)

Very well done, loved the slight music changes, the sounds while holding the head and the difficulty progression!

This is one of the best I have played in the jam so far. The art was fantastic and I love the use of the jam's theme. The temple finally was right on theme and quite the challenge too. Also the end got a laugh out of me.

thanks so much!
I was up till 6AM making that ending at the last minute, so it makes me happy to know people are enjoying it!

Very very good game. Hard but fun!
Really amazing graphics, really good pacing and the ending was a good punchline!

Developer(+1)

thanks glad you enjoyed it, and well done for getting to the end!

Beautiful looking game! The level design was very straightforward with a nice escalation pacing.
Congrats!

Over all great game. My browser had some issues with rendering the layers in correct order at the start of level 1 but I found the thing and got it to the thing and got to level two, from there it was no problem. I like the atmosphere, and chef's kiss to the creepy whispering when carrying the head

LOVED it ! Great idea, super cool effects with some lighting, and that GB vibe super super nice, congrats
