Great entry, art style was great and consistent and a really cool concept.

Thank you for the game!   The different parts to the game were put together well, I echo the other comments other people have made.

This is nice concept. And I think you can expand on this by adding more features, new environments for graveyards. By the way the artstyle is also looking cute.

I love the lore of the soul root! I wish I was able to get it! I couldn't figure out if there was a difference for each plant and how I could defend my crops at night, they just kept attacking my crops and I cowered in a corner lol. Really cool entry and I was impressed with the UI for the radial popup menu - super cool way to select between the various crops!

Need to say this first, I enjoyed the little dance the character does when they get the Soulroot.

Good job with your game. It's well put together. I think it was very well designed. There was a beginning, middle and end. The day and night cycle was a good mechanic. With all the parts you have for it with the farming and combat, I can see the potential to expand and layer on more ideas into the game like certain veggies give bonuses or a store that takes in veggies to give you tools to farm better or combat the zombies.

Overall, nice game and keep up the good work!

Developer

Hi, Waijee. Thanks for the great feedback. It's encouraging to hear that there's a solid foundation to build upon.

I really liked the combination of elements in the game, the design is charming and cozy. It would have been nice to know that you had to plant things in the graves, though. On the other hand, for some reason during the night, even though I tried to attack the skeletons, the character didn’t seem to respond. It’s a shame, because I would have loved to see more of the game. Great work!

Hi, Kaltrie. I'll look at a better way of guiding players through the tutorial.

Why do the skeletons hate veggies haha?? great assets and fun game!!

Submitted(+1)

Great submission! But I couldn't figure out what to do during the day. I love the visuals of your game, especially the transition from day to night! Impressive game for solo dev!

Fun game ! The idea of day and night cycle is well done and the assets are well choosen, I love the night music ! :D

Developer(+1)

Hi, Caspiann. The night music was my wife's choice.

That's great ! :D working on games in couple must be quite fun ! :)

Interesting concept! The lighting change from day to night was well done!

Submitted(+1)

Enjoyed it - controls a little bit fiddly on a laptop / trackpad, but otherwise a very pretty game with a fair bit of potential. Good work!

Developer

Thanks for flagging this.

Day / night cycle is a good point.

Also the expand at day / defend at night is nice. Maybe too ambitious for a short game jam? But very nice submission!

Submitted(+1)

Really charming game with a good amount of potential if you felt like expanding it, super solid work here.

This game has so much charm! I really enjoyed the day-night cycle and how the gameplay shifts with it, it kept things interesting. The nightfall music was especially great, really set the mood. It took a bit to get the mechanics down, but once I got into the loop, it was fun trying to survive the night. Would love to see where you take this idea if you expand it—great jam entry! PS. full screen button was not working not sure if only for me

Submitted(+2)

Can confirm full screen button not working for me as well. Just chiming in to agree with a potential bug.

Developer(+2)

Thanks for checking out the game.

I think I intentionally disabled fullscreen because once I converted to webgl i ran into all kinds of UI issues and since I was already pressed for time I just switched it off. If I make more updates to it I will definitely sort out the full screen.

Submitted

Not sure if this is the issue but I had this problem but if you  go to each of your canvas's and go to canvas scaler change the settings to mine if your base resoultion is 1920 x 1080,then set UI Scale mode to Scale with screen size your resoultion you building your game in and then Scren match mode set to match width or height and set match to 0.5 you can try that and then export and upload to a test project on itch and check if correct

Also for webgl I go to project settings in player and then resolution and presentation set default Canvas Width to 960 and default canvas height to 540.

You can try this hopefully solves the issue

Developer(+1)

Hi, I like that you pointed out the shift in gameplay. I'm glad you picked that up.

I thought this was a great base for a fantastic game! While I don't think it had much to do with the theme, the look of the game is great and the music is awesome. I think the biggest change I would want to see is more activity somehow for the player. I felt like a lot of my time playing was spent watching the lil guy plant or harvest. Maybe more graves and less time spent planting/harvesting so it feels more hectic and perhaps pros/cons to planting one plant type over the other so a player would mentally have to weigh their options while waiting?

Submitted(+1)

This seems to have a lot of potential, I didn't quite get how to plant the crops, but I had fun trying to defend myself at night. Great job with this one!

Submitted(+1)

my favorite part was the nighfall music! it was so good. i felt the controls were a little awkward (WASD for camera instead of movement, right click to interact). I also felt that something was missing for the theme. There was nothing to show perspective of why this grave is tiny. otherwise, i loved it! great work!

Developer

You're right, I should have used WASD for character movement, instead.  Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Neat idea! The top of the screen was cut off for me. I could only see half of the "You Died" text. The mechanics were a little hard to understand at the start, but once I got used to the loop it was really fun! Congrats on submitting!

Submitted(+1)

The day night cycle was really cool. This has the bones of a great idea you can expand on. Thanks for submitting!

Submitted(+1)

Really cool game, I like the day night cycle and how the game play changes depending on the time. I wondered if I could get better weapons somehow as it was a little difficult fighting the skeletons :D I think you utilized the different assets really well!

Developer(+1)

I would have used the hoe or plough that could be upgraded but I was just short on time.
