I love the artwork! It just needs some music. 😉 🎵

I really like all the elements that come together here. The art style is great, and the faded/bright rooms are effective for indicating what I need to do.
I definitely couldn't parse what rooms bugs wanted to go to beyond "sunny/dark - up or down," but that wasn't a big deal. I do have two critiques about hunger:
One, I think clicking on the bug (or even the room) itself should also work for bringing up the food menu, not just clicking on the tiny hunger bubble. It seems like the game is trying to test your multitasking skills, not your precision click skills, but maybe you meant for both.
Two, there's no easy way to put this - I'm finding the sound effect you used for hunger to be deeply unnerving, and it's the main reason I stopped playing lol. I know it's just a funny sound effect and I may be the outlier, but I feel like it works against the charming vibe the game is otherwise cultivating. Some gentle music would also go a very long way.
Nonetheless, this definitely has potential, and works well! Great job!
The other options was wet or dry rooms. The left side is dry and the right side is wet (we have little rain particles). And small/big room was the last criteria. That you could click on the bug too is a good idea and should be easy to implement after voting. We definitely wanted to challenge the multitasking, not the precision, so the ui-size will go up too.
I am deeply sorry that my hungry growl is disturbing you xD I'll try to think of something better (dieDaly had a good laugh at that part of your comment :D). We didn't add music in the end, because we had done everything else by ourselves. It would probably improve the lighthearted mood. But we are glad you liked most of it, thank you for your feedback :)
I would say the game was pretty cute, it could do with a little slowing down at least in the beginning as you are still trying to figure the game out, because it was practically impossible to decide what room each insect should go to. Still I had fun trying this.
Overall, it’s a good concept!
There are a few suggestions for improvement:
-
I think it’ll be easier to choose a room if you have a yellow outline with an arrow above each area where you can seat the customer rather than transparent black, because I didn’t initially expect to be able to select them. 😅
-
I also think their preference icons should be bigger, because even on my TV, I had trouble identifying them.
As for the rest, the visuals are nice and well chosen. And it’s cool that he reacts with hand drawn emoticons. Good work!
First of all, thank you for the comprehensive feedback! You're probably right that the ui wasn't very intuitive. But I'm not sure a yellow box would have enough contrast, especially against the lights room which are also yellow-ish. But the outline-box with an arrow concept is something we could try a few colors with to see what looks best. On the icon-size, you're most definitely right, it was the biggest (tiniest) mistake we made. We are glad you liked it :)
Great concept and really fun. I think the visuals and sound effects are great. Well done.
Nice job on this. Really liked the cute art and the concept is a fun take on managing a tiny hotel. Once you know what you are doing it flows well but it is pretty challenging to keep track of all the bug guests and their food. Would be nice if there was a simple tutorial at the start or a way to help remember the food choices. congrats on the game jam
Yeah that's totally fine with the limited time of the Game Jam, but even the description didn't really tell the player what to do. It just explained what every icon means without telling the player where to click and when. I had to click randomly here and there at first to figure out where I should click, and once I understood how it's working I was able to play. Just letting you know what happened with me to think of how you can improve this experience.
Decent gameplay and aesthetics! However when there are more customers, it's basically impossible to serve them in time while remembering their preferences. I can see this become a great game with a bit of balancing!
Nice concept. The food request might be a bit too much for me to handle. Maybe have something to help the player remember their food choice? Or maybe slow down the game pace in the beginning a bit and have it slowly ramps up? Good job on a nice entry!
Interesting concept and cool art! Very difficult start when you don't know what any of your rooms are and the bugs are impatient! lol xD
Good work. This could be a cool game when the player is knowledgeable. I hope you work on it and polish it up.
I love love LOVE the art style of this game, it's so cute! The gameplay itself was super fun once I got the hang of it too
I love the graphics and asthetics of this game. It was so cute! I definitely found it challenging to get the bugs to a room of their requirements in time and found by the time they were hungry, I had forgotten what they wanted to eat LOL that's on my horrible memory though. Great game!
Nice concept and fun to play! Art is also really charming :) Wouldve liked a bit more time to study the requirements of the customers and then assign the rooms. But overall really nice, well done!
