Pretty fun, it took me a few tries to get the hang of it.  I'd suggest letting the player retry without having to click thru the story each time.

Good idea, I'll look into adding that after the jam. Thanks.

I loved the art style and writing, had a hard time with the number of enemies at first, but got the hanf of it. Is the story a reference to hitch hikers guide?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I'm glad you enjoyed the game.  Yes. Douglas Adams, being one of my favorite authors, was an influence on the theme.

I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of enemies in the first level but once i understood to focus on lateral movement was all good fun.

Good game. I think it could be improved by allowing the player ship to rotate fully (perhaps A/D keys to rotate and W always moves forward in the direction the ship is facing. ). That would solve an issue where I would have loads of enemies above or below me but I had to awkwardly navigate around to their side to shoot at them.  Nice submission overall, good job.

well done game. the difficulty progression was good - at the start i found I could almost ignore some of the ships and just focus on the planet.. later on I had to make sure I took care of the spawners first. The last level though I was able to destroy most of the ships when they were on the edge of my screen and they didnt trigger to come for me - so made that level very easy to cheese. Nice graphics and in keeping sounds and music.

Fun game, well done! The shooting cooldown seems a little random. Sometimes I can shoot instantly, sometimes it doesn’t let me shoot for a few seconds. Some sort of cooldown indicator would be a nice addition, if that is a mechanic you’re going for.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, I think the cool down timer for shooting is ticking before the first shot is fired rather than after.   I did have upgrades like rapid fire, multi directional fire etc, planed as well but I tried to keep the scope small.  Maybe in the future. Cheers!

Nice game, but it needs more polishing.
It would be better if you could have moved up and down as well.
But still, good job on making the game!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm not sure what you mean, as you can 'move' vertical but only shoot horizontal.

I had fun! I would probably change it so you either only look in one direction, or 4+. SFX and music are well place

Developer

Thank you!  Since this was my fist Game Jam and with the holiday weekend I was not sure how much time I would have. I wanted to be sure to finish the game so I set the scope low.

Hey I get it! There's only like a dozen things I would have liked to add to my game as well but obviously these things are time limited. Still, good job though!

its fun. but i think it could be better with up and down looking.

Developer

Thank you, I may add that in a future version.

I think you expected the player to go to the left side. Somehow I started to go to the right and nothing happened. Then I tried to the left and after some time I saw enemies :D :D :D.

At the beginning I found the space / left mouse button unresponsive and I could not shoot. I thought there was a charing mechanic or something. After a while it seems it started to work.

Developer

Thank you for playing, I actually expected the player to go right, since that was the initial way the ship was facing.  But I can see putting one or 2 of the enemies just within the screen as a cookie-crumb to lead the player, thanks!.

Cool little game. Needs some more oomph but has potential. good job

The browser play doesn't work unless full screen (scaling broken I guess)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you, I developed it on a 4k monitor, I didn't notice any bug until accessing it on a laptop with 1080.  I am new to exporting to HTML so will look into fixing it, Thank you!

Nice little game!  The music was great and fit the vibe of the game well.

The game has a lot of potential. The colours for the text at the start is really hard on the eyes. Tone down on the saturation helps. As such, I didn't read the narrative at the start since it was giving me a slight headache. Gameplay, I think communicating the borders of the map (enemies set up space fencing?) and having more than just shooting left  and right would do a TON to this game. Great work for getting this done in the timeframe! You did good :D.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the comments,  I did look at having the ship  fire in a 360 but with the holiday weekend here in the US I really didn't have a ton of time,  You have a point about the borders, I thought about just some asteroid sprites or something but with the time frame I just cheated and clamped the players movement.  Glad you enjoyed it.

Such a fun game, great mechanics with a fun backstory and I like how the difficulty slowly ramps up! I played till the end but sadly didnt get the promotion :(

Developer

Thank you! Sorry you didn't get the promotion :).

Nice use of the tiny world theme. This is a cool little space shooter.  I like the mechanics of having to lure the ships away from their planet so you can get a clean shot at it.

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
