Theme interpretation
Moonshot is thematically relevant to our game in that you play as an astronaut shooting enemies on a lunar research station. Soviet cosmonauts are researching a super-soldier serum, codename "Moonshot", and you have to stop them! Shoot, jump, and wall-run your way to victory!

Really cool FPS/Platform/Puzzle blend of mechanics! I like the art, music and atmosphere a lot. I truly enjoyed it.

Great submission! Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!  We are happy everything came together in the way that it did and can't wait to polish it even more.

Nice work! I loved the graphics and it had some interesting mechanics :) The intro sequence was really cool, congratulations!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and sharing your game with us as well!  Our guys who worked on the intro will be happy to hear you liked it!

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the sounds and graphics in the game. Intro is super! It's interesting to see a mix of different genres: shooter and platformer.

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it!  Our sound and art people are super happy to see you liked their stuff! :D

Amazing visuals and love the unique gameplay mechanics!

Thanks!  We'd love to keep exploring the mechanics too.  Thanks for sharing your game as well!

Really polished fun puzzle game! Kinda gave me portal vibes :D

Developer

If our game gave you Portal vibes, then we are ecstatic - thank you!  My teammates and I loved your game as well!

Very NICE game, i love the graphics, very well made.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!  Glad you liked it!

I really enjoyed playing this game, a lot of fun! The intro was good too lmao. Especially the mechanic of turning minions into platforms is very original. Only downside is that I would start with more tutorials as it wasn't entirely clear for me in the beginning, as well as the movement being slightly strange at first. But overall good solid entry! Would recommend.

Developer

Our whole game concept started with the mechanic of turning enemies into platforms, so we are happy you think it is as fun and original as we do!  Based on all the feedback we've received (as well as on our own playtests and experiences) we definitely agree that the game needs further development of tutorials and better game mechanics introductions.  That'll be the first thing we work on!  Thanks for playing!

Lmao, that was very fun! I got stuck at some point in which you had to charge a shot to make a platform far enough to jump to the next spot, I didn't knew charging the shot pushed the targets, but eventually for some reason I charged a shot and realized what I had to do. But yeah, other than that I was just laughing and having fun my way through. I felt like some jumps were really tight, and figuring out where to go while people shot you was weird too, so I could say that mostly the tutorials could be better. Other than that, I think controlling the character felt good most of the time, the graphics were good and the game was very humorous. A great entry overall!

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to mention making platforms from killed enemies. To me, that was completely new and allowed for crazy platforming, the highlight of the game! I think that if there was a way to better control where they land after charging a shot and there was more levels to show off that mechanic it would be great.

Developer

Thanks for playing and thank you for the kind words!  We really did build the game around the concept of shooting enemies into platforms and then using them to jump  farther or higher, so we are thrilled that you find it as interesting and fun as we do!  Based on all the feedback we've received (as well as on our own playtests and experiences) we definitely agree that the game needs further development of its tutorials and better game mechanics introductions, including the charging mechanic.  We can also explore more control when shooting the enemies away.  We love making levels, so we'd be happy to expand upon what we were able to do for the jam and make even more!  Thanks again for playing and for the awesome feedback!

Well Done team!!!!

making a 3d game for a game jam is always a gamble as it is considerably more tough. this is givign me Karlson vibes, a speerunable game.

the shooting to get platforms was great, the charge indicator on the ADS and normal was great, the shaders were great, the music was great, you get the point.

but the movement controls they need some working in a parkour type game like this controls are the most elemental part.

hope my feedback helps

keep up the good work

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing our game and for the feedback!  Glad you liked it and had a positive experience overall.  We're also honored to be compared to Karlson!  When talking about the movement specifically, is there anything you can pinpoint or dive further into detail about in order to improve it?  We could probably come up with a few tweaks ourselves based on some playtesting we've seen, but it would very much help us if you had a specific suggestion or idea in mind.  Thanks again, all the feedback we've been getting will definitively help us improve the game!

Excellent entry! I did indeed play this twice so that I could beat the wolf at the end in the patched version (I think its not against the rules of the jam to submit fixes to 'game-breaking' bugs so I would consider updating the official version, so that people don't have to start from the beginning when they can't beat the boss: I had no idea what to do on my bugged version, but it becomes obvious when the red guys actually spawn).

I really enjoyed the whole awesome experience! Everything came together brilliantly, graphics, sound and gameplay. I will admit that I found it a bit tricky to judge the distance of jumps in first person but that is a minor issue. The segment leading up to the boss where you get to see the space station (and the earth and moon) outside was particularly impressive. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the positive feedback!  We're over the moon (pun intended) that you liked our project so much.  Regarding the boss-fix version, you are probably correct that we could safely replace the official version without causing any trouble, but we do want to be better-safe-that-sorry and we want to be fair to everyone else.  We also like that the upload time shows the project having been uploaded before the deadline, but what we may do instead of replacing the download is add an additional download.  This way we can preserve the original upload and upload time (before the deadline) but also make the boss-fix download more prominent (instead of it only being a link in the description).  Thanks for the feedback and suggestion!

Amusing to see the overabundant patriotism, down to the platforms being flags themselves. I really enjoyed the mechanics such as the wall running and how you could vary the power of your shots for platform distances. The gameplay was just fantastic, and so is the art! Though, seeing others mention a final boss, I think I must have gotten stuck because I entered a room with 3 black door exits that did not open, and the music went quiet. I tried jumping around and shooting random things to see if there was a way out but couldn't find one. (I used the windows download, by the way).

Developer(+1)

Thank you for checking out our game!  We are glad you enjoyed it so much!  Sorry to hear about you getting stuck in that one room.  I not sure why the forward-most door wouldn't open, but we will look into it and do our best to make sure it doesn't happen again.   (Your game is awesome too by the way!)  Have a good one!

Very nice game! Loved the theme and story. Takes a second to figure out how to play, but then immediately got into it. Very nice experience, had a lot of fun! Very Doom.

Thanks for playing and for streaming it!  I tried to stay up and watch, but as an east coaster I fell asleep too soon.  Still, thank you for the kind words and feedback.  Can't wait to try your game!

(+1)

If we ever end up playing your game again on stream and you will be in the chat please let us know that you made a game we are about to play and we'll play it first since you're there. Sorry our pace was a bit off, it's our first time streaming games from a game jam. We'll definitely work on getting through them faster next time.

Developer(+1)

It's all good!  I just didn't want to be rude and ask for you guys to play my team's game.  There were lots of other great jam games on the list too, and I enjoyed watching them just as much.  Pace was fine, I was just three hours ahead time wise!  Thanks again!

I think I hit the bug where the final boss was unbeatable. I looked everywhere for a way to defeat them but no luck. Bummer. However, the rest of the game is insanely well done. The level of quality is really out there. It's fast paced, exciting, and has interesting puzzle elements to the platforming. I think a little bit of work could be done to teach the player about the main mechanic of making platforms out of the baddies and depending on how much you charge your shot the further they get launched. It came to me after a while but in the initial room I was a bit confused. Aside from that, this is a really solid entry. Well done, Cosmonauty team!

Developer

So happy you enjoyed it and made it to the boss!  The intended solution to defeating the boss is to knock certain red cosmonauts into him with a fully charged shot.  There absolutely was a bug that cause them to not spawn sometimes in the official submission upload, and we were only able to fix it after the submission deadline had ended.  In accordance with the rules and recommendations, we didn't change the initial submission, but we did provide a link in the description where people can get the boss-fixed version.  Hopefully you'll have an opportunity to try it!  As far as the feedback on a more comprehensive tutorial and player-teaching, we completely agree!  We packed a lot into the game and we certainly need to more time and space to adequately and incrementally explain it all to the player.  Thanks again for the playing and the wonderful feedback!  Your game is awesome too!

Sadly I couldn't get this running in Wine on Linux, so I won't be able to rate it properly. But I did catch this on a Twitch stream last night, and it looked amazing! Shooting enemies to turn them into platforms is such an innovative concept, and it seemed to be explored really well in the game. I would have liked to see more variety in weapons or enemy types, but again, I haven't played it myself, so maybe more stuff gets introduced in parts of the game I didn't see get streamed. Overall though, nice job!

Developer

Thanks!  Yes, we really wanted to thoroughly explore our core mechanic with a huge level, but maybe we can explore new mechanics and a Linux build in the future!  Thanks for the feedback, glad you still got to see it :D

I tried out the game but was stuck pretty fast. Perhaps because it is late here but I couldn't figure it out. Find below my review:

Hey, thanks for trying it out!  It appears that the part you got stuck on was the wall-running.  If you jump into the blue wall panels and continue to hold forward, your character will stick and run along them, allowing you to either jump again or just run to the other side!  I certainly agree that we could have been more clear on this mechanic, perhaps by actually using the term wall-running in game instead of just explaining the controls to do so.  This will definitely help us improve the player experience.  Thank you so much for the feedback and also the video review!

Submitted(+1)

The visuals, voice acting, and sound are all stunning! However, I found the game was really, really difficult to aim the pads right for jumping. I constantly ran into a glitch about 3 whole checkpoint respawns in a row where each and every astronaut flew into the ceiling and put their pads up there, even if i tried to aim down at them from the spawnpoint. The bouncing was very hard to predict!

Still, an amazing game and amazing idea and theme interpretation. Was super excited to see this from the previews in the discord and I'm glad to see it submitted!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback!  Our artists and sound team will be delighted to hear that!  When shooting at the enemies, they get knocked away from you based on how much you charge you gun, and then bounce off of walls accordingly.  Therefore, you typically want to be at the same height so it is easier to aim, and then jump on them.  We'll still look into the possible glitch and improvements based on the feedback though.  Thanks again!

Submitted(+1)

Oh my god that makes so much more sense ahahhaha, I was charging at max every time. That probably made it easier for them to go haywire and zoom into the ceiling ahahaha. Thank you, and yes definitely do that, what an awesome team !!!

Pros:
- Great concept, well executed in the environment and level design.
- Maps feel well designed and fun to traverse. I never got lost or had trouble finding the exit.
- Controls are comfortable, Doom-like, and flow well with the FPS nature of the game.
- The platforming in the game is closely tied to the FPS aspect. Neither feels out of place for the progression of the game.
- Plenty of retries if you mess up a level. The enemies that are necessary for progression respawn to give you every chance you need to line up their corpse platforms.
- Neat characters, funny murals, and a well-thought out environment tie the story and gameplay together.
- Good voice-over, and overall sound design was A+

Cons:
- Encountered a trap in the environment on the final boss. Could be resolved with minor adjustment
- Some of the tips weren't especially obvious, but this is a minor complaint

Overall, this short game left me with a good impression of the team that put it together. The humorous concept and characters are enough to draw you in, but the environment and platforming/FPS gameplay drive home the quality of their work. Well done Cosmonauty Team!

Developer

Wow, thank you such much for your kind words!  We worked really hard to make it great, so I am so happy you had so much fun!  Thanks for playing it!

It looks hilarious and a great concept.  Unfortunately my old AF computer doesn't appear up to the challenge.  :(

Best of luck!

Developer

Thanks!  I had fun watching watching my pig explode into a bloody mess in your game.  Great concept that can be expanded upon to add some more gameplay.
