This is great! I got to stage 3, where I instantly died repeatedly, compared to the previous stages which I did broadly without missing a beat. I don't know if that's a me issue or a game issue. It sort of felt like maybe the song was going out of sync on stage 3? Again, could totally be me not understanding the mechanic.

The aesthetics are great, audio obviously good (although turning noise was too quiet compared to the stepping noise).

I'm pretty impressed with how well this works. I'm usually terrible at rhythm games. Great job!

Your not the only one. It felt out of sync to me too when I tried to play stage 3.

kind of along the same vibe as funk dungeon.

wasnt sure what the thing was i fought, but i defeated it with the POWER OF MUSIC!

The overall mechanics and feel are very nice; of all the rhythm dungeon crawlers I've played, I think this comes closest to what I want from the genre!

The beat timing unfortunately doesn't feel great to me, though? I play a moderate amount of rhythm games and I felt like I was hitting notes on the beat, but the game was giving me fails (and no indication of whether I was fast, slow, double-hitting or whatever). A Necrodancer-style beatbar might have helped with that part, even if only to diagnose whether there's an audio or control lag somewhere?

Still, the concept is sound and the game looks great, so great work!

Simply awesome. i couldn´t pass the guy with the sword, my beat clearly is not good enough to be a bard!

This was a lot of fun to play!  :)

You definitely made good use of the time available to make a pretty awesome game. Well done!

This game is pretty fun and has tons of potential. I hope it gets further development, or even a commercial version later down the line.

This game was so much fun!! I completly love this rhythm gameplay mechanics!

However, I found it a bit frustrating about combos, I'm quite bad to the game actually and impossible to reach those 20 combos length to pass through the door :(

But that's certainly because of me instead of the game, I'm a bad rhythm-game player haha, I will not blame the game for that!

I've really enjoyed your game, thanks for this good moment!

The game is excellent.

I ended up on a crash in the middle of Level 6 so I've not completed it for now but I certainly will.

I had a ton of fun with this one.

I just recently booted up Crypt of the Necrodancer for the first time and this works very similar with some nice quality of life improvements:

  • No input on any given beat doesn't officially drop your combo so you don't feel constantly pressured to push a button.
  • Restart on the level you died so there's no need to "grind" through earlier levels to get to the difficulty that you first found challenging.
  • Simplified controls that don't require multiple inputs to do more complex things.

The soundtrack is also quite good and not too heavy to keep your heart from racing the whole time you're playing so thanks for that.

If I were to suggest anything I'd say the enemy sprites could possibly use some love. Not that they were bad, because they matched the overall aesthetic well, but it'd be nice to see them interact with the constantly changing light colors a bit more to just make them feel more like a highlight of the party or something.

I like the idea to combine the rhythm game with the dungeon crawler, very unique! Though I think the criterion for a on-beat action might be a little too strict..

The door that you need to use the combo to open is not quite clear, I thought for a while to figure it out, maybe a tutorial text about it?

Overall a good game!

Thanks so much for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I decided to sacrifice a fully fleshed out tutorial to get everything done for the jam, but I appreciate the feedback.

LOL, fun game, I love the idea and the music is good, too. But how can I pass this level, pls help I want to play more :D

you need to get 20 combos to open it

Developer

Thanks for the feedback farsmile90!

I figured the message about combos at the start of the level would be enough but maybe it could have been a bit clearer :D

Good luck with the rest of the levels!

Really enjoyed this one one. Gameplay was a lot of fun, but also thought the visual style was great.
