Super impressed by the amount of content you fit in for a game jam. I am still lost in that tunnel, but starting to understand what I need to do to escape it. I enjoy that the party gets lost and you can get turned around by just pressing forward over and over. This forces some of the other mechanics to be explored. Not much is explained, however, so experimentation is key! Loving that you fit a full character creation screen in; reminds me a lot of bards tale at the beginning. Solid entry, good job.

Developer

Thanks a lot, I guess the game is confusing for some bad and some not so bad reasons.

A suprising gem that would require more time from me to properly digest and explore. I feel there is a lot to learn here and I am in awe about how complex the game is for a game jam... damn fine work. Some mechanics are confusing though, but others have already mentioned this.

Developer

Thanks. To be fair I did reuse many old mechanics, for the jam I only put content together.

It would have been fun to publicly release my crawler editor so that, in theory at least, anybody who'd want to could start from there too (in practice it'll probably always be too much of a mess), but it's currently miles away from a releasable state, for the jam I did not directly code any content and all content was made with the editor but I had to fix quite a lot of bugs as they came.

This is a really old school experience! I was a little confused getting around at first (I got used all the WASD controls of other entries) but eventually figured it out. Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks (and thanks for persevering :) ).

I love the aesthetic with the olde worlde fonts and adventure music. Really takes me back. Like some others I struggled a bit with getting around but that's potentially only a mark down in a short experience like this. If it were a regular game (rather than a game jam game) I'd probably be willing to put more time into getting to grips with everything. Good entry though, I can see a lot of work went into it.

Developer

Thanks, I get your point.

I like the classic style menu and general presentation. Good to see an options menu, but a volume slider would be nice. Impressive amount of stats and rpg mechanics for such a short period of time! I got stuck in the first room. I feel like I am very dumb. Usually I'd blame the game for this, but judging by the comments it looks like you're doing some proper classic dungeon crawlery stuff here... hey, I got to the trees!

Unfortunately the gameplay is quite esoteric, so I'm going to leave it there. I quite like the presentation and the menus, and the music is nice too. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback and don't worry the game is indeed to blame here.

There is an interesting game there, but i find it confusing and disorienting to move about or know what I have to do. I went some way, killed a snake and a skeleton, found some Letters on walls. But never did I know where I was(except the garden) or what I was supposed to do.

Developer

Yes, this is a more than fair criticism, thanks for playing the game and thanks for your feedback.

It is impressive and nice looking, but I found myself getting confused and lost really quick (which I guess was part of the mechanic). I couldn't figure out what R and B meant in the first hall but eventually got to the hidden doors and could get to the wooded area.

I think a bit more of a tutorial or something would have made it a lot easier to play, but all in all I think I get what you were aiming for - as much as I prefer the smooth movement in some of the games this is the first game I have played in the jam that really did feel like one of the classic dungeon crawlers - good show for doing something classic!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, currently I'm displaying a bunch of 2D sprites on top of each other so I could not have smooth movement even if I wanted to anyway :) .

I am impressed that you managed to put together a complicated game in under a week. That is really cool!

I thought I was going to die against the stupid skeleton until I decided to just "swing randomly" with my last conscious character.

I didn't know how Looting works, I tried pressing L and nothing seemed to happen. Maybe I missed something.

I would have to side with TheGrumpyGameDev and Chekisteg's comment, this game can get VERY VERY complicated and that could create a lot of friction for beginners.

The "party is lost" mechanic is really confusing and I just don't think it works here. I'm not saying that it couldn't work, it could have been implemented better. I think the easiest way to put it is that you simply overdid it.

There is only two things this game needs to make it better,

1: More improved level design. The catacombs are too difficult. It's not immediately obvious how you get lost in them. This would make the party is lost mechanic more tolerable. Make it feel like your making progress more often than your going around in circles. I know there were times were I knew I was lost but seriously, I was still contemplating that the game was bugged more than anything else.

2: An Objective: Make it clear what you are looking for. Too be honest, I'm not even sure how you could implement this, maybe you could start with the door with a password. I thought after I opened it I would get further. Instead I found an alternate path and went in a complete circle. Long story short, I never beat the game.

Well, that's all I have to say but still, this is a very impressive game with a lot of mechanics. See ya!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback.

You're 100% right about the door especially, I realized a bit late that telling the password would almost certainly (the probability is way too high) lead somewhere you already went to, which is very unsatisfying as a result, it should have lead to the very end of the catacombs instead.

Plays fun! Nice music, puzzles, concept. At first i've been confused with "party is lost". Needs some sounds (and maybe some story).  Subscribed.

Developer

Thanks.

A spinner only few steps after starting? Haha, brilliant. I love spinners :D Fun little game this. Well done.

Developer

Thanks.

The game being very short I prefer to see it as close to the end :) .

I didn't figure out even how to solve the first hallway with the B and R. Very confusing, clicked around and pressed buttons on walls and didn't get it.

Developer

Thanks for the comment, the game would indeed benefit from a simple introduction sequence preceding what you get there.

I found the game a bit confusing, but I have limited time to evaluate these things.

Developer

Thanks for the comment and sorry for the harsh beginning indeed.

The game is very fun and I liked the puzzles, hidden passages, and sometimes alternative routes to reach your destination (e.g. witches can be reached by solving a puzzle or going through the catacombs). The only problem is that sometimes the game feels unresponsive, making essential actions like step counting a lot harder.

Developer

Thanks.

If you mean lags then the engine is a mess and would indeed need some rework not to lag just to display a few sprites .
