In what way does your game fit the theme?
It takes the rewind theme and applies it to the sequence that the game is played. You play starting at the final boss and move backwards through the levels, randomly losing power as you go.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code myself, but there are a few 3rd party assets that I purchased. They are all linked in the game's description.

Good:

  • Music and sound effects are really nice
  • Uses the rewind theme well
  • Nice concept of having to get upgrades to stop yourself from becoming too weak

Could improve:

  • I sometimes got stuck on a corner while moving, maybe wall collisions could be improved
  • Displaying health of enemies
  • Displaying player health above the player
  • Make it more clear what stats are decreasing each round. I wasn't entirely sure what was changing between levels other that the number of bullets I was firing
  • The energy particles sometimes got stuck in the corners and I couldn't get them
  • Particle effects for shooting and landing shots would make the game look a lot more polished
  • Maybe checkpoints? Depends on how hard you want to make the game

Overall a fun game :D

It's very rare that you find a genuinely really fun top-down-shooter in a game jam, and you've made it harder on yourself by literally throwing progression out of the window, but honestly this game is amazing! I played all the levels and was only disappointed that there wasn't any more levels when I got to the end.

Felt most badass with the laser gun. Great work with this game!

This was a fun experience, I really engoyed the laser upgrade. I would add more levels and more story background for better clarity to the player. Overall a nice and short game with cool weapons and upgrades. Please continue this game.

also maybe rate my game O:

The movement is good. I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to shoot but I like the beam gun and effect. Feels good. Sound and music was good.

Gameplay feels solid, although collisions are a bit misleading every now and then. A nice bounciness when you hit something would make it feel a bit better, I think.

Sounds and Music are on point for the genre and mood of the game.

Graphics are OK, although an "attractor" effect on the Energy pixels (with some trace particles) would make it feel a lot greater, I think.

Story: The core idea for this Jam is similar to what we developed on our team, so great :P

Haha, I like the concept. Also, well done on the boss and the overall firing mechanics.

Feel free to check out my short and sweet puzzle game with record/rewind mechanics (Backtrack): https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/723990

Hi, I really like how smooth the controls are and the movement of the MC!.  the sFx for the MC shooting are very good too. I got confused at the beginning about how to navigate the level but got the hang of it after a few tries. The music could use some variety, gets very repetitive after a whole and the beginning/end of the loop is very conspicuous. Overall very well done, congrats!

I did music and sound for this one: https://mastro2k.itch.io/whathehole Maybe we can Jam together in the future!

Thanks for taking a look at the game! And we appreciate the feedback, especially with the music. It's not our strong suit so its good to hear that we can improve! Thanks for the offer and we'll be sure to check out your work! :)

Amazing game, love the music, i think the enemies are bit overpowered but overall amazing entry

Thanks for the feedback :) I think if we had the time, we would have been balancing the damage and health numbers for days! haha We are glad you enjoyed!

I enjoyed the game, but I don't know if it really is on the "rewind" theme, or at least it doesn't add anything to the game.

Also this game may have benefited from large rooms with much more enemies, like a classic dungeon-bullethell (example: into the gungeon). The tight corridors made it harder for me to dodge the bullets. The first level/final boss has a nice layout and I wish I'd seen something similar in the next levels too.

The art style is nice, but not that varied.

But I did enjoyed it.

Thanks for the honest feedback! I did feel at one point that we could at least make the hallways wider and scale up the room size. It's good for us to keep it in mind going forward. I think with the theme that we wanted to stay away from the more common "rewind as a mechanic" and try something different. It's too bad that it didn't catch you the same way. Again, thanks for the feedback and good luck! :)

pls rate my game too

Hey! This was really fun to play and really satisfying with the SFX of the laser! We had similar ideas for the theme! I would like to get some feedback when I hit the first boss and the other enemies, that they're taking damage. Such as flashing/switching color or a camera shake. Keep it up!

Cool game that gets harder and harder :)

I loved the opening boss sequence!
This was a fun game.

I ran into an issue on the second level where I could not find enough energy, but it seemed to just fill up over time (after about a few minutes or so, but all enemies were (seemingly) dead)? Is the energy mechanic designed to be time based or pickup based?

Regardless, this was a fun entry

The concept is very interesting and I found the gameplay very immersive and smooth! Also loved the lighting effects. Keep up the amazing work!!

I liked it a lot except that I suck at these types of games. Great visuals and animations were well done.

Please play and rate my game too if you can:
